Christ University B.Com (Hons.) (Accounting and Finance) FAQs

Ques. Is it compulsory to pursue the CA course if I join B.Com Finance and Accountancy at CHRIST University?

Ans. No, pursuing CA is not mandatory. The B.Com Finance and Accountancy programme is designed to complement the CA curriculum, and an in-house CA facilitation centre is available for students who wish to pursue CA simultaneously. However, students who do not wish to pursue CA can still complete the B.Com degree and benefit from the strong curriculum in accounting, auditing, taxation, and financial management. The degree alone opens doors to roles in corporate finance, banking, consulting, and further studies like MBA or CFA.

Ques. What are the class timings for B.Com Finance and Accountancy at CHRIST University, and how does the CA coaching fit in?

Ans. B.Com classes are held from 7:00 AM to 12:30 PM on campus. For students pursuing CA, the in-house CA coaching sessions run from approximately 12:20 PM to 5:00 PM on the same campus. This means students pursuing both tracks have a full day schedule, six days a week including Sundays for CA coaching. While this is demanding, the structured timetable ensures both programmes are covered without the need for external coaching.

Ques. How strict is the 85% attendance rule, and does it affect CA exam preparation?

Ans. CHRIST University enforces a strict 85% attendance requirement for all students. Falling below this threshold can result in the student being barred from appearing in university examinations and may attract a fine. Students with a valid medical certificate may be eligible for a relaxed threshold of 75%. For CA aspirants, this can be challenging during CA exam preparation periods. Students are advised to plan their attendance carefully, build a buffer early in the semester, and coordinate with faculty in advance when CA exam leaves are required.

Ques. What is the difference between B.Com (Finance and Accountancy), B.Com (Honours), and B.Com (Honours with Research) at CHRIST?

Ans. All three are offered under the same programme umbrella. The first three years cover the core B.Com curriculum in Finance and Accountancy. The 4th year is an optional Honours year where students can choose between a standard Honours track (deeper specialisation in advanced topics) or an Honours with Research track (which involves a research dissertation). Students who do not wish to continue for the 4th year can exit with a 3-year B.Com degree. The 4th year carries a higher fee (Rs 95,000 for Karnataka students; Rs 1,25,000 for non-Karnataka students).

Ques. What is the selection process for CHRIST University B.Com admissions, and how much weightage is given to Class 12 marks?

Ans. The selection process involves three stages: (1) Online Entrance Test (ET) covering English, Reasoning, Data Analysis, General Knowledge, and Commerce concepts; (2) In-person Selection Process comprising Skill Assessment (written task), Micro Presentation (90-second impromptu speech), and Personal Interview; (3) Class 12 academic performance. CHRIST University gives significant weightage to the ET score and the in-person selection rounds. Class 12 marks are considered but are not the sole criterion. A score above 93% in Class 12 has historically been a competitive benchmark, but performance in the ET and PI rounds can compensate for slightly lower board marks.

Ques. Are placements centralised for all B.Com specialisations at CHRIST, and does the Finance and Accountancy specialisation have an edge?

Ans. Yes, placement drives at CHRIST University's Central Campus are largely centralised across B.Com specialisations. However, the Finance and Accountancy specialisation, given its CA-integrated curriculum and focus on audit, taxation, and financial reporting, tends to attract specific recruiters from the Big 4 accounting firms (Deloitte, EY, KPMG, PwC) and financial services companies. Students who also clear CA Foundation or Intermediate during their degree have a distinct advantage in placements. The average package for B.Com graduates at CHRIST is approximately Rs 7.58 LPA, with the highest reported at Rs 15.75 LPA.

Can I pursue LLB from Christ University without BBA or BA?

Rohan TiwariLLM from Christ University (2016 Batch)

No, you cannot pursue LLB from Christ University without BBA or BA. My name is Rohan Tiwari. I have completed an LLM from Christ University. This is the same question that I had before.

Christ University, Bangalore offers different law courses including integrated LLB and LLM. School of love Christ University does not offer a direct LLB course. Candidates wishing to pursue LLB course must have to complete 10 + 2 or any Bachelors Degree for minimum 3 years. One cannot opt LLB without any prior Bachelor's degree. But if anyone likes to do only LLB then they have to spend 1 year extra which means that if someone has intentionally or unintentionally completed a 3-years degree course like BA, BCom, BBA, etc. then one can pursue a 3 years LLB course. So I have done BA Hons from Pune University but due to the transfer of my father, we relocated to Bangalore and later on I got interested in Law studies so I opted for a 3-years LLB course at Christ University. I spent 6-years for BA and LLB courses. So according to my experience it is better to pursue integrated LLB courses with BBA / BA or BCom, etc.

Do I need Work Experience to be selected by Christ University for an MBA?

Shahzad KhanMBA Human Resources Management from Christ University (2017 - 2019 Batch)

As a Christ University student, I would like to answer this question for you.

I have completed an MBA in Human Resources Management from Christ University in 2019. As per my knowledge, experience plays an important role in MBA admission into any top College/ University like Christ.

MBA Admissions at Christ University are entrance-based. Aspirants must qualify an MBA entrance and face GD PI rounds to get admission. For some MBA specializations and Executive MBA, one may also be asked for a minimum of 1-2 years of work experience in the relevant field.

After my bachelor's, I started working in a 4-star hotel and took a break from my studies. There I worked for 2 years and gained important knowledge and skills. I was given preference over other candidates because of my work experience.

This is how work experience plays a role in MBA admissions at Christ University.
