Christ University B.Com (A&T) FAQs

Ques. What is the difference between B.Com (Accountancy and Taxation) and B.Com (Accountancy and Taxation) Honours at Christ University?

Ans. The standard B.Com (Accountancy and Taxation) is a 3-year programme (6 semesters) under the NEP framework. The Honours version is a 4-year programme (8 semesters) that includes an additional year with advanced coursework, a Capstone Project, and an extended internship. Students who score 75% and above in the first 6 semesters can opt for the Honours with Research track in Year 4, which involves a Research Project/Dissertation. The Honours degree is preferred for postgraduate admissions and research-oriented careers. The 3-year exit is suitable for students who want to enter the workforce or pursue professional certifications like CA or ACCA sooner.

Ques. Can I pursue CA (Chartered Accountancy) alongside B.Com (Accountancy and Taxation) at Christ University?

Ans. Yes, many students pursue CA Foundation and Intermediate alongside this programme. The curriculum's focus on financial accounting, auditing, taxation, and corporate law aligns well with the CA syllabus. Christ University's strict attendance policy (85% minimum) can make it challenging to balance CA coaching with regular classes, but many students manage it successfully. The university also provides additional facilitation for students pursuing professional certifications. Students are advised to plan their CA exam schedule carefully to avoid conflicts with CIA exams and semester examinations.

Ques. What is the EA (Enrolled Agent) certification, and is it worth pursuing alongside this programme?

Ans. The EA (Enrolled Agent) is a professional certification granted by the IRS (Internal Revenue Service), the revenue authority of the United States. It is the highest credential awarded by the IRS and allows holders to represent taxpayers before the IRS. The EA certification is particularly valuable for students interested in US taxation, international tax consulting, and working with global accounting firms. Christ University offers optional training for the EA exam at an additional cost. For students targeting careers in Big 4 firms or global tax consulting, the EA certification is a significant differentiator.

Ques. What are the career options after B.Com (Accountancy and Taxation) from Christ University?

Ans. Graduates can pursue careers as Accounts Executives, Tax Consultants, Internal Auditors, Financial Advisors, Business Analysts, and Corporate Tax Advisors. Top recruiters include Deloitte, EY, KPMG, PwC, ICICI Bank, Wells Fargo, and Deutsche Bank. Average packages range from Rs. 4.5-6 LPA, with the highest going up to Rs. 11 LPA. Many graduates also pursue CA, ACCA, CMA, or MBA after completing this programme to advance their careers.

Ques. What is the Dual Degree Programme with Macquarie University, Australia? Who is eligible?

Ans. Christ University has an arrangement with Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia, for an International Dual Degree Programme. Under this arrangement, students complete 2 years at Christ University and the subsequent 2 years at Macquarie University. Upon successful completion, students receive degrees from both institutions. This provides valuable international academic exposure and a globally recognised degree. Eligibility criteria, additional costs, and the application process should be confirmed directly with the department, as this is a competitive and selective pathway.

Ques. How does the NEP flexible exit option work in this programme?

Ans. Under the NEP framework, students have multiple exit options: after completing 1 year (2 semesters) with the prescribed credits, students receive a Certificate; after 2 years (4 semesters), they receive a UG Diploma in Accountancy and Taxation; after 3 years (6 semesters), they receive the B.Com (Accountancy and Taxation) degree. Students who continue for a 4th year receive the Honours or Honours with Research degree. This flexibility allows students to exit at any stage based on their career goals, though most students complete the full 3-year degree for better career prospects.

Can I pursue LLB from Christ University without BBA or BA?

Rohan TiwariLLM from Christ University (2016 Batch)

No, you cannot pursue LLB from Christ University without BBA or BA. My name is Rohan Tiwari. I have completed an LLM from Christ University. This is the same question that I had before.

Christ University, Bangalore offers different law courses including integrated LLB and LLM. School of love Christ University does not offer a direct LLB course. Candidates wishing to pursue LLB course must have to complete 10 + 2 or any Bachelors Degree for minimum 3 years. One cannot opt LLB without any prior Bachelor's degree. But if anyone likes to do only LLB then they have to spend 1 year extra which means that if someone has intentionally or unintentionally completed a 3-years degree course like BA, BCom, BBA, etc. then one can pursue a 3 years LLB course. So I have done BA Hons from Pune University but due to the transfer of my father, we relocated to Bangalore and later on I got interested in Law studies so I opted for a 3-years LLB course at Christ University. I spent 6-years for BA and LLB courses. So according to my experience it is better to pursue integrated LLB courses with BBA / BA or BCom, etc.

Do I need Work Experience to be selected by Christ University for an MBA?

Shahzad KhanMBA Human Resources Management from Christ University (2017 - 2019 Batch)

As a Christ University student, I would like to answer this question for you.

I have completed an MBA in Human Resources Management from Christ University in 2019. As per my knowledge, experience plays an important role in MBA admission into any top College/ University like Christ.

MBA Admissions at Christ University are entrance-based. Aspirants must qualify an MBA entrance and face GD PI rounds to get admission. For some MBA specializations and Executive MBA, one may also be asked for a minimum of 1-2 years of work experience in the relevant field.

After my bachelor's, I started working in a 4-star hotel and took a break from my studies. There I worked for 2 years and gained important knowledge and skills. I was given preference over other candidates because of my work experience.

This is how work experience plays a role in MBA admissions at Christ University.
