Why study this course with us?
- Managing natural hazards is becoming increasingly complex due to a combination of factors, including the spread of cities into hazard-prone areas and the influence of climate change (e.g. more intense/frequent and irregular hurricanes). Managing these hazards therefore needs a holistic and multidisciplinary approach, which is what NHM at Chester provides. This ranges from studying volcanic processes and developing policies and emergency plans, to the use of the latest technology (e.g. dones) to map disaster areas. The range of skills developed as part of this course has resulted in our graduates being highly sought after by employers.
- During theÊNatural Hazard Management and French course from the University of Chester, you will have the opportunity to undertake a short placement at the end of Year 2 (Level 5). Most students also spend an academic year in a French-speaking country. This allows you to split your experience of residence abroad, offering you the chance to spend time on different types of placement and in different countries.
- In your first year you will have the opportunity to study a further language from scratch.
Job prospects
A degree in French develops an impressive range of skills including strong communication and presentation skills, the ability to work autonomously and in groups, analytical and critical discernment and the resilience and confidence developed during placements abroad. Graduates often pursue further study or careers in professional translation, teaching, business, hospitality and in international organisations.
