Why study this course with us?
- Politics and French course offered at the University of Chester looks behind the media headlines and assumptions that surround power politics. We explore the underlying political issues and ask age old questions such as ÔHow do we achieve the good society?Õ; ÔDo the strong do as they please, while the weak suffer?Õ; and ÔIs the point of politics to change the world?Õ.
- The teaching team brings a wealth of experience and knowledge. We may also invite guest lecturers to provide specialist sessions and where appropriate, facilitate visits to political institutions and events with regional MPs and local authorities.
- At Chester, you will have the opportunity to undertake a short placement at the end of Year 2 (Level 5). Most students also spend an academic year in a French-speaking country. This allows you to split your experience of residence abroad, offering you the chance to spend time on different types of placement and in different countries.
- In your first year you will have the opportunity to study a further language from scratch.
Job prospects
- A degree in French develops an impressive range of skills including strong communication and presentation skills, the ability to work autonomously and in groups, analytical and critical discernment and the resilience and confidence developed during placements abroad. Graduates often pursue further study or careers in professional translation, teaching, business, hospitality and in international organisations.
- There are many opportunities related to politics. Graduates may work in areas such as; think tanks, trade unions, local or national government, political research, MP offices, the civil service, and/or political communication. A graduate of Politics at Chester will have a developed ability to be critical and analytical which is highly germane to a range of disciplines as well as postgraduate study.
