What Students Say
Likes
- UEL have very Big campus with car parking and charging station inside the campus. And it's near by riverside because of that surroundings will be always ambient.
- Student HUB is very helpful specifically for the international student. We have timing for the hub from morning to evening all weekdays which is really helpful to solve the queries regarding fees payment, opening banking account in UK, getting help to apply for student letter, concession on rail card and many more things.
- Inside the college campus getting Costa coffee, Starbucks, Restaurants and Food vending machine, this all things getting in campus is quite reliable for the student to get a variety of food, coffee and snacks inside the campus on reasonable price with good quality of food.
Dislikes
- Teaching way of professor is not the interactive, they mostly open the PPT and form that they read and suggest to watch the YouTube videos for more detail information and knowledge.
- There is no jain food in the whole college campus, so it's quite difficult for the people who are jain, there is no other option for jain people instead of cooking and bringing their own lunch box.
- Most of the students smoke, specially they used to take vape and they think they are being smart while smoking and here people are getting addicted towards it like anything. And sometimes because of their addiction we have faced fire alarm issues.
Course Curriculum
- Difficulty level of course curriculum was medium. We have all a mixture, theoretical plus practical for my course.
- Positive aspects about the course that we get to learn something new that I was not aware of before. And negative aspects are that some parts of the course are too old, which right now in the market no one is using.
Admission Experience
-
I applied to two universities;
- The first is the University of East London
- Second is Nottingham University
- I got shortlisted in UEL first and in Nottingham my application was on the waitlist. So I chose to move further with the UEL because of its course structure, which inclined towards my interest, and also because they offered some scholarships too for the admissions and took the admissions in it. I received confirmation admission mail from the University of East London.
- No, there were no colleges where I got rejection because I applied to only two colleges. From the University of East London, I got shortlisted for the admissions; that is, after applying to the college and within 3-4 days I got shortlisted for the admission.
- I chose the college because the course in which I'm looking to do my master's, which is in cloud computing, this college is providing, and I checked the syllabus; all of those are getting excel with my interest and it is giving a reasonable fee structure.
- In the admissions process, they have considered my class 10, 12 mark sheet, graduation degree and marksheet, NSS certificate, resume, passport, and birth certificate.
- IELTS minimum 6.
- My overall admission experience went well, and if we have any queries regarding the application, we can email the university; they help us through their dedicated email.
- I applied for the September intake and from the very start, after completing my graduation, I have had the desire to complete my Master's degree from the UK, and my friends were also influenced to take admission abroad because they were already pursuing their Master's degree abroad. And the best part about getting your degree from abroad or specifically from the UK, is getting your Masters degree within a year.
- The admissions process takes almost 2.5 months from the application to acceptance.
Class Schedule
- There are almost 3 classes in a day: two lectures and 1 practical, timing will be sometime 10-4 pm and sometime 2-5 pm
- The average number of students in class is 200. 85% are the Indian students in my class.
Faculty
- 2 faculty for practical class, which get divided into batches of 30 students, which is quite beneficial for us; if we have any issues or problems while doing the practical, we can directly approach them and get the solution to them.
- Teaching methodology was not that good through that we can get a job in market. Anyways, it's up to the student how much effort he is putting into understanding the concepts. There is the help from the professor all the time you approach them through email related to your queries; they used reply that but at the end you have prepared yourself for the job interview on your own, and you can take the guidance from the professor.
- A faculty member helps to provide the opportunity to take part in research work; if you are good at that, then they will recommend you; else, they will take you in their own research work.
- For part-time and full-time, there is a dedicated unit for career events; from there, you can get help to get a job.
- One of the faculty members is always used to share the reach work and real-time scenario project and also encourages students to take part in research work and get engaged with real-time scenario project
Campus Life
- UEL has two campuses. UEL's first campus is Dockland University Way, near Royal Albert Dock. The second campus is in Stratford, close to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
- On my campus, UEL Dockland, we have a library, yoga classes, a sportsdock with a football club, a table tennis club and many more, a religious practice place, and medical services too.
- Campus major festivals are Christmas, Halloween, the New Year party, Holi and Diwali.
- In UEL, mostly people are crazy about football clubs, as we have football tournaments at international level, where there is opportunity for male and female both. We have career events and a student hub, which is really helpful for all the international students with queries regarding their careers and their courses too.
Part Time Jobs
- Student can't get directly secure TA in UK because to become a TA or DA you need to do some teaching-related courses as per UK standard, then only they will consider. I'm not sure about the pay range of TA/RA/DA.
- On campus jobs like work inside campus cafe, student hub and career events, sound system, event management and so on.
- As a student, you can work 20 hours in a week.
- It's quite difficult to secure a job inside campus because vaccines are less and people are more who applied for it, so there is too much competition to get a job inside the campus.
- Most probably, students get jobs in supermarkets, restaurants and in retail and sales. They earn minimum wages in their part-time jobs, such as 11.44 to 12 pounds per hour. It's quite difficult to secure a part-time job as student but if you have someone's referral, then for sure you will get the job easily. The usual process to apply for any part-time job is to apply through LinkedIn or directly from their website.
Placement
- I'm not sure but there may be 10-15% student secure employment with in 6 months because right now in the UK, a recession is going on and because of that, getting a job is quite difficult.
- The average salary range will be 27-35 k pounds that can be expected from our program after completing graduation.
- Students usually find jobs after graduation through career events linked to job sites and LinkedIn.
- I haven't enrolled myself in the placement program in my course so I have no idea which company comes to the university and how many students get recruited through campus placement, as the students who enrol themselves in campus placement have extra classes for 6 months.
Accommodation
- I found my accommodations with the help of my connection, who already lives there.
- My monthly rent is 450 pounds, including all the bills. Facilities are given, like free wifi and kitchen sharing.
- I face the problem while securing accommodation I was trying to take accommodations nearby college, but it was costly also, so further I tried to look far, far from college then I got the accommodations where no smoking and no meat eating allowed, which I was also looking for
- Join the university group; there you will get a lot of options for accommodations; it will really be helpful for new students. Try to get in the WhatsApp group of your course and university and ask for any help there you need.
- My accommodations are quite far; it's taken me almost an hour and a half, but here in Hounslow most of the Indian lives so here we can get Indian foods and snacks.
Exams
- IELTS and TOEFL and recommended exams from the university.
- CV, LOR, SSC Marksheet and HSC Marksheet, graduation degree, all semesters marksheet, birth certificate, passport.
- Yes, there was a system interview for the application process for the CAS, where you have to interact with the chat system, which asks you questions about you and your decisions, why choose the university and course and many more.
Fees
- Tuition fees: the tuition fees of my course are 18000 pounds overall for a year.
- I didn't take hostel because it was too costly inside the university. So I decided to take it outside the college and I took a rented house where I needed to pay 450 pounds per month and it was in sharing with one person. I had to pay 450 pounds, including all the bills, except groceries.
- Fee charged at my college is semester wise or you can pay the whole fees in one go; it's up to you but there is a deadline for all, which you have to follow, or else you will pay more than usual.
- Monthly expenses, including all, will be 700-800 pounds.
Scholarship
- Yes, I received the scholarship for my course, which is masters in cloud computing. The name of the scholarship is the student scholarship, which is specifically for the international student. That means you will only be eligible for that scholarship when you are an international student.
- I received the scholarship of 1500 pounds from the university.
- Yes, other batchmates also get that if you are applying by time, then most probably you will get the good scholarship.
- More than 200 students get a typical award amount of $900–$1200 in between.
