Colleges Where I Was Accepted

Reason for choosing my college

  • Warwick is a small town on the outskirts of Birmingham and is very quiet and peaceful. The main reason for choosing this university was the campus and the course structure.
  • The course offers a diverse range of core and elective modules, which were really close to what I want to do in the future. The cohort is a bit big and has a lot of South Asian students but the programme team has made sure that there are smaller groups for live workshops.

Tips to enhance your application

  • Definitely about SOPs. The statement of purpose should be really impactful. While I can't share my SOP, I have helped 5 students in the upcoming batch secure a spot for my course.
  • This is the flow that Warwick in general will require to be on the SOP:
    • Introduction para (Why Marketing and why Warwick; this is the longest para on the SOP)
    • Latest degree (Undergrad degree; any related experience about marketing that can relate to your passion)
    • Relevant work experience: Why University of Warwick (This will be the para about the university in detail; what in the course excites you.)
    • Plans during and after the course completion (The next two paragraphs will describe what your career aspirations are from the course and what do you plan on doing after the course.)
    • How/where do you see yourself in the next 5 years? (This is the last paragraph where you mention that this university and course will help you get settled in your life.)

Admission Experience

  • England was one of the countries that offered masters directly after bachelors, and the reason for choosing the university was that the ranking was in the top 5 in England.
  • MSc Marketing and Strategy is a course that has been something that I have been wanting to study as a specialisation for a long time. The modules have been designed to give proper practical and theoretical knowledge about real-life scenarios, and when I talked to previous students, they gave me a good insight on how the teaching will happen throughout the year. The career coaches have helped guide formatting the CV, cover Letters and what sort of platforms to look at for job applications.
  • In the second month of coming here, I secured an internship (remote) with a London-based jewellery designer and have been working with her since. The university also has a lot of clubs and societies to join and gain exposure to networking opportunities.
  • The Warwick Business School hosts a lot of career and networking events with industry professionals, along with mock assessment centres that are really helpful in getting to know the application process. The campus is huge, with a lot of on-campus accommodations, a grocery store in and just outside the campus, and different buildings where lectures and workshops are held.

Class Schedule

9

  • There are 4 online lectures (1 hour each) and 4 in-person workshops (2 hours each), which equals to around 12 hours of teaching in a week. The lectures can vary timings from 9am to 6pm.
  • The total cohort size is around 260 students, but each workshop has about 50-55 students at a time. More than 60% of the cohort is Indian students. Time for assignments and self-study varies, but it is around 2 hours a day, whenever I get time.

Faculty

9

  • There are module leaders (the ones who design the module) and assistant faculties (who conduct the workshops). It varies module to module, but the lectures are taught by the module leader online with 260 students, and the workshops are by the assistant faculties with 50-55 students.
  • The best faculty I found was Dr. Jenny, who taught Critical Issues in Marketing in Term 1 and Prof. Yansong Hu, who is teaching Marketing with Digital Disruption and Transformation. The reason I like them is that they teach subjects that are really interesting to me, and they are open to having discussions about the topics after the workshops as well. Faculties can be of help; unfortunately, I haven't reached out to them yet about references.

Campus Life

10

  • As far as I know, Warwick has one campus here in Coventry, and the other is at the Shard in London.
  • The campus in Coventry has everything: a five-story library, a huge sports and wellness hub (with the gym), and a medical as well. Every society has their own festival, so a lot of events keep happening every time on campus.

Part Time Jobs

  • Few of my friends did apply to on-campus roles as different ambassadors of societies and clubs of the university.
  • The application process, from what I've heard, is quite simple. Tailor the CV, answer a few questions listed in the application form, and/or send in your cover letter and apply. There may be different interview rounds but all of that is generally mentioned on the job description.
  • There are on-campus opportunities; a lot of them are listed on Unitemps and are posted on the social media pages. I was late to apply, or else I would have gotten a few in the initial months.
  • The on-campus roles do pay around 12–14 GBP per hour, which is the base pay rate. For off-campus, a lot of retail outlets and grocery chains might have jobs open; I haven't researched about them yet. On a student visa, as a PG student, you are allowed to work 20 hours per week.

Placement

8

  • Full-time opportunities are available, but if I talk about the people I reached out to last year, most of them have decided to give up and move back to India. I am not that sort of person; I have faith in myself that I will land a full-time role soon. A few have landed a job directly after finishing the course in the company they researched for their external dissertation, so if you choose your project wisely and network correctly, it will be easy to land a role quickly.
  • The salary for most students ranges from 27k to 33k a year. There are various job portals for jobs, and most of them are listed on the careers page, but the best one is LinkedIn.
