The University of Bristol was my second choice in terms of what university I should choose since it was the second best university in my course as it is very famous for engineering. I liked that it is one of the red brick universities since it is very reputed to be in the red brick universities. Moreover, it was in Bristol, which is a very beautiful place to be in. The curriculum intrigued me since all the subjects were that I wanted to study. I have a B.Tech degree in Electronics and Communication and 3.5 years of experience as a software engineer in networking. Thus, I had an interest in getting theoretical knowledge in computer networks, and I saw my curriculum matching all courses I was expecting to learn to bridge the gap between the practical and theoretical expertise that I wanted to acquire. I thus accepted my offer of admission. My overall experience at the university was more than hopeful. I got to learn so much, including studies and extracurriculars, talking to various people from all parts of the world, and living with each other with fun and laughter. People in the university being so helpful, motivating, and persuading me to reach my goal helped me reach new heights. It has built confidence in me, and it feels like a dream coming true.

Course Curriculum

8

The course and curriculum were very well-built. The separation of subjects in the first and the second term was carefully selected. The first term included the basics of the subject which helped a lot in the second term as well and also helped as a refresher on the topic we have selected for the thesis. This gave us some idea of how to write the thesis and what to include. It was also accompanied by a feedback from the professors. We were also given classes on the skills required for research and in the end we had to give a research review report of 10000 words. For the thesis, there were some options for research experience as a part of the industry, but there were not many in my opinion though, I was lucky to get the industrial exposure where I got the chance to do my thesis with a company for 3 months. But only 4 people were selected out of 150 people which means that a lot of competition is there in this area.

Faculty

8

There are about 100 students and 9-10 faculty members for our course and each course has access to 2-3 professors who we can connect with in case we have doubts. They are quire approachable and helpful and we just have to mail them and they get back as soon as possible. We can also visit their cabins at times assigned to us and they can help us with all our doubts. Dr Rasheed Hussain is one of my favourites. He taught us Advanced Networks and is also the supervisor of my thesis. He has taught really well, with giving practical examples and making the course so interactive, fun and knowledgeable. He is always available to answer any of the questions and always persuades me to get more and more knowledge from him.

Campus Life

9

The campus life is great! There are a huge number of clubs and societies according to your interests including, dance, music, art, yoga, fitness, etc. There are events for all the festivals across the world which do not make you miss your home. There are sports facilities such as swimming, gym, badminton, basketball, and paddleball. They also have summer sessions where you get classes for free. There are multiple libraries for various domains like engineering, law, medicine, etc with all relevant materials required and enough study spaces to accommodate all. WiFi is present in all the buildings provided by the university for free. They also have services like printers, Computers, borrowing books, etc.

Placement

6

The placements are generally off-campus but there is ample support from the university in building your CV, and cover letters, and providing information on what all companies are hiring on their website. There are also companies coming with their job fairs where we can go and enquire about the job opportunities they have.

Accommodation

Off Campus

I took a private accommodation 15 mins by bus from the university. I had a room in a 5 BHK independent house. It cost me 650 GBP without bills monthly. Bills added around 100 pounds. Other spaces are student accommodations which are a little expensive options. the range of rent goes between 800-1000 pounds per month.

Exams

- Admission requirements were B.Tech in CS, ECE or any engineering field with 60% and above and an IELTS score of 6.5 and above was required. I got 83.28% in B.Tech and 7.5 in IELTS. - Grade 10th: 85.5%; Grade 12th:89.6% UG: SRM University, Kattankulathur: 83.28% - Requirements: Yes, I had to submit SoP, 2 LoRs and my updated CV. For SoPs, it is important to add why I want to study the program and what are the projects, internships and other experiences that I have in the field. It should have a kind of continuity and genuine interest in the field. It should also include further ambitions after the course.
