The University of Greenwich has introduced a major update to its English language entry policy for September 2026. Indian students who are in the top 10% in CBSE Class XII (scoring 90%+ overall and 70%+ in English) can now apply without IELTS. This change allows eligible students to receive admission decisions within just seven days, making the process quicker and more affordable.

State-Wise Waiver Rules for Indian Students

The IELTS waiver at the University of Greenwich applies to most Indian students who score 70% in English in CBSE or CISCE Standard XII, allowing entry to STEM and green tech programs without any English test.

However, students from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Uttarakhand are not eligible for this direct waiver due to state-level differences in English assessment, as noted by UKVI guidelines. Students from these regions must submit UKVI IELTS (6.0 overall / 5.5 per band) or alternatives like PTE (52 overall) for entry.

For cases where English marks are slightly below 70% but overall percentage is 90%+, Greenwich has allowed some exceptions this year, so students can email transcripts for review.
