SAT exam day requires careful preparation, not just in terms of study, but also in what you carry to the test centre. The Digital SAT is taken on a device using the Bluebook app. You must bring a fully charged device with Bluebook installed, a valid physical photo ID, your admission ticket, and a pen or pencil for scratch work. Test centre doors open at 7:45 AM and close at 8:00 AM sharp. Missing the entry time means you cannot take the test that day. For Indian students, the ID rules are specific: only a passport and an Aadhaar PVC Card are accepted.

SAT Exam Day Checklist 2026

What You Must Bring on SAT Test Day

These are the items you cannot enter the test centre without:

  • Fully charged testing device with the Bluebook app installed and exam setup completed.
  • Admission ticket: printed copy preferred; available 1-5 days before the test via Bluebook.
  • Valid physical photo ID: Must be an original, not a photocopy or digital version.
  • Pen or pencil for scratch work (scratch paper is provided at the centre).
  • College Board username and password, as you will need to log in on test day.
  • An approved calculator for the SAT Math section (Bluebook also has a built-in calculator).

What Indian Students Can Use as ID

This is a critical point for students taking the SAT in India. The College Board has specific ID rules for India.

Accepted IDs for testing in India:

  • Valid passport (with name, photo, and signature).
  • Aadhaar PVC Card (with name and photo). Only the physical PVC card or the original hard copy letter issued by the Government of India.

Not accepted:

  • Printouts, screenshots, or e-Aadhaar cards.
  • School ID cards.
  • Any digital or electronic ID.

Your ID must match your name exactly as it appears on your admission ticket. Even a nickname mismatch can get you turned away.

Approved Devices for the Digital SAT

The SAT is now fully digital. You must take it on an approved device with the Bluebook app installed.

Approved devices include:

  • Windows laptop or tablet (Windows 11 recommended; Windows 10 support ends in fall 2026).
  • Mac laptop (minimum macOS 12.0).
  • iPad (minimum iPadOS 16).
  • School-managed Chromebook (ChromeOS 132 or higher).

Not allowed:

  • Personal Chromebooks.
  • Mobile phones.
  • Any device that cannot connect to the test centre's Wi-Fi.

Your device must hold a charge for 3-4 hours. Bring a power cord or portable charger, as outlet access is not guaranteed.

Other Items You Can Carry On the SAT Test Day

These are not required but can be helpful:

  • A watch without an audible alarm (smartwatches are not allowed).
  • A charging cable or portable charger.
  • A bag or backpack.
  • Snacks and a drink only for the break period.
  • A backup testing device, in case your primary device fails.

What to Leave at Home

Bringing the wrong items can get your scores cancelled. Keep these away:

  • Mobile phones must be kept in your bag, away from your desk.
  • Smartwatches or watches with audible alarms.
  • Detachable privacy screens.
  • Any prohibited electronic devices.

If a prohibited device makes noise or you are seen using it, even during a break, you will be dismissed immediately, and your scores can be cancelled.

What Happens During the Test

  • Your seat is assigned, not chosen.
  • You will connect to the test centre's Wi-Fi and open Bluebook.
  • The proctor gives you a start code to begin the test.
  • Each section of the SAT exam syllabus (Reading & Writing, Math) has 2 modules, each timed separately.
  • You can move between questions within a module, but you cannot go back once a module ends.
  • There is a 10-minute break between sections.
  • Answers are submitted automatically when the test ends.

A smooth SAT exam day depends on carrying the correct device, a valid ID, and the required documents, along with following strict entry timing rules. For Indian students, ID compliance and approved device setup are especially important to avoid disqualification. Proper preparation of these logistics ensures the test can be completed without disruptions or administrative issues.
