Course Curriculum Overview
I wanted to take the core forensic science subjects like Forensic Toxicology, Crime Scene Investigations, and Amity seemed to have a clear cut path to that. There were also mandatory course like Foreign Languages in which I got a good grasp of French. The freedom to also choose a minor that I was in interested in, English Literature, made me eager to apply to the university. I got much more of the practical knowledge about the forensic world with in-person lab runs and the research projects we had to submit anf publish to our faculty.
Placement Experience
1) Placement drive portal is open for stdents from their 5th semester (for 3-year student) or 7th (for 4-year student) and is available for UG and Pg, the latter of which can apply anytime during their second year. 2) Recruitment companies which I've noticed during drives are Amazon, Capgemini, Accenture, Cognizant, Coca-cola, McKinsey, Airtel, etc. 3) The highest packages which are around 45 LPA is mostly given to B.Tech and MBA students.
Fees and Financial Aid
Amity is expensive and the fees only go up. I didn't recieve any scholarship, so I had to pay the full amount each semester. I'll detail it down below: 1) Year 1: 209000. Didn't have to pay the registration fee but there were a bunch of other charges included like Lab Fee (8000), Library Fee (3000) and Student Activity Fee (2000). 2) Year 2: 187950 3) Year 3: 197359 All in all, I had to pay a whoping 594299 in approximation, and my 20000 security deposit also was never refunded despite numerous enquiries. The fees increase by around 5% every year, which nobody really tells you about during admission. When I started in 2021, I budgeted based on the first-year fees and thought it was the launching pad expense and that it'll be stable or at least cheaper, only to realize by second year that the tuition fees were climbing. By the time I graduated, my semester tuition alone had jumped from 75500 to 83239. Since Amity is a private insititution, there's no differentiation in fees for SC/ST or other reserved categories. Everyone pays the same, unless you're on some sort of scholarship that you need to get a certain CGPA every semester to maintain. Speaking of the scholarship structure, it goes something like: 1) 50% for students who scores above 90% in their Class 12 exams. 2) 25% for 85-89% score 3) 5% for 80-84% score There are also Merit-cum-Means (MCM) scholarships for brilliant students facing financial hardships and sports scholarships, though I've personally mostly been a witnessed to the Class 12-based ones.
Campus Life
1) Amifest are usually held during the winter season and many colleges, even if they're not part of AU family, come to Gurugram to participate. 2) Sangathans happens annually and it's mostly focused on sports.
Hostel Facilities
In the hostel, we had a suite consisting of three room and there were two students assigned to each room. The university provided us with the bed, study table, chair, almirah, and also with bedsheets, pillow, blankets, etc. The meal quality depended on the mess we were in and what day it was, and the menu for it changed everyday. For one year, it was 100000 and we had to pay 10000 as a security deposit. To apply for a room, we simply had to go to Amazon and book a room according to AC or non-AC.
Admission
I didn't apply to any other colleges, unfortunatelt since their Forensic Science courses didn't particularly interested me like Amity did. I was contemplating on NFSU but decided it'd be better to enter as a Master's student later.
Faculty
Our batch had around 23 students, and the forensic science department had approximately 6-8 full-time faculty members teaching across different specialisations. While core forensic subjects had dedicated faculty, we often shared professors with other BSc programs. The faculty was generally experienced and encouraged honest interactions, but it was still a mixed bag as some professors were absolutely phenomenal, while others seemed detached. I did a minor in English Literature and I have to say that the liberal arts professors were my favourites as they were more easygoing and put little to no pressure on us. As far as communication went, all professors were active on our WhatsApp groups and were quick with replies about any questions we had, though most stuck to the strict office hours they had. We had internal assessments (30) and external assessments (70) which were fairly simple to clear. The internal assessments were mostly from our mid-term exams and assignments. The external exam was just the big finals we had for 70 marks.
Night Life
There is one gym in the campus and it's usually attended to by the male students. Hostel timings are * AM to 6 PM depending on your reason for departure/arrival. The campus is mostly quiet unless it's the weekday afternoon and most students prefer lounging in cafeterias or the mess because of the sun and proximity to food.
