What Students Say
Likes
- I like how the atmosphere here is positive and joyful but also having a good reminder of what we are doing i.e. studying.
- The faculty is very good and skilled in their own respective fields and hold a good grasp on it.
- The course, especially Physics from where I am, is advanced in many aspects, we also do technical analysis and research on various things.
Dislikes
- The management needs to be updated as it feels kind of outdated and not enthusiastic and cooperative enough.
- Also, the infrastructure is kind of average as they need to be updated well, but also in cooperative with the students and professors.
Course Curriculum Overview
Well, we study the basics and advanced aspects of Physics, ranging from Mechanics to Thermodynamics and even Quantum and Relativity in many times. The curriculum actually helps us for finding the problems in the subject and we try to find it. Well, I don't think any update is needed now, because we already discuss many advance topics, just the college administration should give us more time. The timing of our courses are very flexible and very good for the students. Even though we are not in the subpar with Engineering, where they apply it practically, we do all of those in theoretical manner, and makes up, personally, a good experience.
Internships Opportunities
The placements from companies are only for the Engeneering, Computer Science, etc students, and as I'm not a part of it, I can't say. Many projects related to our theoretical aspects are conducted and also internships are alloted for not just in college, but also for other institutions.
Fees and Financial Aid
The first year fees was around for ?7800 (for SC) and the second year fees was for around ?6000 (for SC). The detailed fee structure is not available with me now. As per government rules, around ?3200 is affiliated for category and since from SC, the normal fees would be around ?11000 for 1st year and ?9000 for 2nd year. The Scholarship program from MahaDBT and others are the way, scholarship can be alloted.
Campus Life
The Traditional Day, Black and White Day, Annual Function and most importantly the events organised by the respective departments are conducted on an annual basis. They are normally held between the months of December to February. The library is good as the books which I need are available within range, with the scientific journals also available. The classrooms are your typical classrooms with nothing more special excluding the CCTV Camera and projectors. As I'm not a sports person, I can't say much about the sports one, but many sports are played here. The ground is used to play cricket, football, baseball, and other sports; also the basketball court, which can also be made into a volleyball court. Internships and extra curricular activities are allotted to the students depending on their performance and their overall experience.
Admission
Now, my priority college was Fergusson College, but the seats were already alloted and I couldn't get in. The thing with Fergusson and Modern are, that they tend to have better Sciences than any other college in Pune (for Government Colleges at least). The only college I would compare Modern with is Fergusson, because of the Physics and other Sciences Department. To be honest, now it is better for Modern as it comes under the SPPU, which is better for having Masters in the University itself. For admission, the sole criterion is based on the Merit List, with the priority being the in-house quota. The admission process can be done with online ways, provided by the college itself and all of the information will be provided by college themselves.
Faculty
I would specifically mention my Physics Department one. Most of our professors are Doctorates in their respective research and are highly skilled in them. Because only 19 students are studying Physics in our batch, the faculty is very attentive towards us (only professionally), as all of them are equipped of handling 60 students at once. For Exams, the CIE (Continuous Internal Evaluation) i.e. internals and ESE (End Semester Examination) are held after every Semester. The exam difficulty is generally dependent on the course itself, as students may vary in understanding it. But, every student passed the exam with a few less, but passable. Also, the course is very relevant in terms of theoretical studies and we even discuss the advanced topics.
Night Life
We have a Gym inside our Sports Complex, where students of course exercise and work out. The college has a canteen and also a cafe inside the campus, which is available to all, teachers and students. The library is also good as mentioned earlier, with the most books. I'm not a hostel student, so no idea. There are many hangout places surrounding the college and it is a safe area so it is safe to roam at night.
