Remarks
5 years is a long duration to spend in a claustrophobic college like mine, where there are minds of a very vast spectrum. There are sisters and fathers and grandfathers as students who sit and yawn at the teachers just like the youngsters and students from a wide variety of families, rich and poor, loving and abandoned. Everyone has an identity of their own and are fairly open minded or at least open to fair criticism and acceptance of ideologies. However, the tint of patriarchy sometimes looms ominously even as preachings of feminism are being hoisted about like a show dog. Then again that exists everywhere in India. Everyone is firm on their politics and have distinct stands on the growing 'progress of the nation. And more than anything you earn good friends who help you through each mess that comes up.
Course Curriculum Overview
The exam structure is horrible as there is no adherence to a systematic order of exams. Currently, I'm about to finish my 7th semester, yet to write my 6th semester exams, and awaiting my 5th semester results. The University takes its own sweet time regarding valuation, declaration of exams, etc. The course structure is pretty good as it is standardized with almost all law colleges and universities in India.
Placement Experience
At present, there is no placement cell as such in our college. Ours is a professional college that lacks a placement cell. However the college makes internship mandatory every summer during the five years course, and an internship at an appellate Court is mandatory. I have interned so far at the Kerala police headquarters, Cooperative Bank Thrissur and at the Kerala Mahila Samakhya Society.
College Events
There is a College Union which is in charge of most of the events like arts day, sports day, etc. The college has various chairs and clubs which organize national and international seminars. There is an ADR club where monthly Adalats take place within campus. A National Moot Court competition is held annually and the college has hosted a law and management fest the previous year for the first time. The ADR makes it an annual event to visit the Mental health center during the world mental health day, and the Children's home during the Children's day and spend time with the inmates. As a law college, the Republic day is an important event where there is active participation. And every year there are exciting new events hosted by various class committees and clubs .
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is feasible. It is a Govt college and the fees are affordable. E-grant system is also prevailing. The fees are minimal compared to that of national law schools and other private Universities.
Fees and Financial Aid
The national scholarship is being offered to students for which we have to apply each year. There is an e-grant system that is prevailing in the university where the annual tuition fees, as well as examination fees, are met.
Campus Life
There are student representations for Arts, Moot club, Sports, and the college magazine. Extracurricular activities as mentioned previously are mainly headed by them and there are various active clubs and chairs that host various National, and international seminars call for paper presentations, Lok Adalats, and many such events.
Hostel Facilities
There are no hostel facilities available in our college and the students are forced to opt for private hostels, paying guest facilities or rent apartments, which is not very feasible for many students.
Alumni/Alumna
The alumni are very helpful especially in the area of mooting, as they are the pillars of wisdom to look upon while preparing for the competition. They are all successful people in the field of law but make no hesitation in coming back to college to spend some good old time by the old tree, lecture juniors on how to both enjoy and be studious in college life and are extremely helpful in the case of studies.
Faculty
The faculty is one of the most educated and qualified people with an amazing skillset. However, it is the sad truth that merely an educational qualification alone is inadequate when intelligence, ethics, and the will to support the students are lacking.
