Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this course because of the lack of professionals with a hospitality or hotel management background in the industry. The curriculum prepares you both theoretically and practically to overcome real-world challenges faced by the professionals in the industry. Areas of improvement could include the digitalization of the campus as there is only one digital classroom and only one computer lab. The college conducts only a Unit Test every month and 1 model test before the Semester Exams. The marks scored in these tests would be considered for internals.
Internships Opportunities
I did 2 Internships, one at Hotel Hilton, Chennai, and the other at a tourism company Pickyourtrail, Chennai. Roles offered at Hilton are as follows: Food and Beverage Service trainee, Food Production trainee, Housekeeping Trainee, and Front Office Trainee. Roles offered at Pickyourtrail are as follows: CX Intern, Sales Intern, Marketing intern
Placement Experience
Students become eligible for campus placements once they are in their Final Year. The placement drive starts around the middle of the 5th semester. Many famous brands of hotels such as ITC, Radisson, Leela Palace, Oberoi, Taj, Westin etc. visit for campus placements. Campus placements are not only restricted to hotels but the tourism industry as well, so any companies or organizations involved in the hotel and tourism industry visit the campus for placements.
Fees and Financial Aid
The Tuition fee increases every 2 or 3 years. To complete my education including semester fees, exam fees, and other miscellaneous expenses it cost around 4 lakhs. During my Final year, I was on an Earn while you Learn program, I was working for a tourism brand called Pickyourtrail, my stipend was around 5000 rupees and they take you to outdoor catering events to cater and gain experience while you studying, it's optional but for each outdoor catering you enroll and complete, you get stipends from 500 to 1000 rupees.
Campus Life
The campus life is the best at SRM, you have a lot of caulturals to participate and a wide array of clubs to be a member of. There are 2 libraries, one for the college and there is a university library at the center of the University, the most famous event of the year, Milan is conducted around February or March of every year which is an intercollege cultural event.
Admission
The admission process was a smooth flow of operation as most of it will be completed online. The eligibility of the course is 12th pass on any stream. the application form and information about course fees and application date is available on the college website www.srmist.edu.in.
Faculty
The faculty members are top-notch in their respective departments. Each lecturer has a minimum experience of at least fifteen to twenty years in the industry, so their practical knowledge cannot be challenged by the students. despite being out of the industry they are up to date with the current trends in the hospitality Industry. There are more than enough faculty members, there is one faculty for every thirty to fifty students. They are very friendly as well, you could clear your doubts even over a call if you had missed any lectures or classes. You can rely on them if you're weak in any subject, they are helpful.
