Course Curriculum Overview

3

My major reason of choosing Commerce as a subject was to further progress my passion of pursuing Entrepreneurship. And assessing the curriculum presented in Commerce offered in the college it brushed upon every fundamental on the study of finances and business that one needs to understand. As it developed the core basic of the study. Well the curriculum did justify every fundamental. But what the course lacked was application based studying. It didn't entertain the students in what manner these fundamentals can be applied, which would have given more idea on preserving the concept. There is a lot of scope of improvement, as the teaching techniques are completely old school, with no modern examples and strategies which might disconnect with the students. Secondly the teacher's should be more interactive with students to make them understand better. There are 6 semesters with no particular time. And the mid-sem is always delayed with a regular difficulty level.

Fees and Financial Aid

The tution fees is very minimal as it is a government college. There won't be a expense more than 2000-2500 rupees per year. And the amount paid of 4000-5000 paid during the admission takes up your compulsory charges. The complete cost of a graduation course in this college will not be more than 10000 rupees. Which includes your exam charges that are taken before each semester which is around 1000 rupees. And there are a lot of financial aid services for girl-child, EWS, Scheduled Cast and Tribes, army families and physically disabled students as well. Surely this course is extremely affordable but there is Little to none campus placement offers. And if they arise the salary one can expect is of 1.2-1.4 LPA. But the chances of that are very low.

Campus Life

1

The social aspect in the Campus is extremely bad. Expect from the freshers and farewell that most occur in the months of August and February that too only department wise there is no more festivals or annual events. While the college offers the library with a lot of books but most of them are academic and none recreational. And there is a timeline to return the book as well. Although no late charges are included in that. There is no technological upgradation in the classes. It's the same old chalk and duster. A computer room is being built but it's access to all the students will be very limited. There is a good scope of sports in the college as a lot of tournaments get organized. There are no clubs what-so-ever in the college and creating one is extremely difficult as the faculties will not support and getting permission will be difficult. Only if there is a government mandate a program may be held.

Admission

The eligibility of the course is that one has to complete his/her +2 in either science or commerce in a certified college or school (CBSE, ICSE, Govt Affiliated) After that one has to login in SAMS website which is a government website in Odisha and fill in the application form as per the details mentioned correctly. Post fulfilment of the form it will ask to select the course you want to apply and any 5 colleges you want to apply once filling the form is complete. Then a date will be announced with cut off and the next procedure. Further as per the cutoff which was 85% in 2021, if the candidate is eligible he/she will apply in the college in the manner the website asks for and complete his admission process. Finally there will be a college call where the candidate has to submit all his documents in the college and get his admission number. Reservations will follow as per the government standards in the cutoff and admission fees as well.

Faculty

3.5

The faculty to student ratio depends on the particular department. For departments that fall under humanities like English, Pol Sc, Economics- you can find 4-5 teachers with 1 HOD guiding 120 students, but for non-sectioned departments like commerce you'll find the same number of teachers, guiding nearly 250 students. Every department will have atleast 2 permanent faculties who would have complete their PhD and also have gained extensive experience. And the remaining teachers would be guest faculty with a tenure of 1-2 years who might not have experience but still are great in with their resources. While interacting with teachers is easy but only in regards to studies and doubts, the senior faculties might not be entirely approachable, but the guest faculties having a nearer age group are more interactive in a friendly manner and can help one in college issues except pure academics.

Placement Experience:

In our college, final-year students are eligile for campus placements. While i don't recall the specific companies that visited, one of my friends interviewed with Axis Bank and got selected with a package of around 2.4 lakh. The exact percentage of students are placed and details of average or highest packages are unclear to me, but the placements process provides opportunities of those actively seeking jobs. After completing my degree, I plan to pursue an independent career rather that seeking a traditioinal job placement.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this course bcom because I want to be a Certified Management Accountant (CMA). I think this is the best course I can opt for. All faculty members are good, calm and friendly so that students can communicate with them frankly but still we respect our faculty members ,teachers and head of our department. Moreover, faculty members are changing each semester wise. So till now everyone's teaching methods are well and good. Our semesters are conducted twice in a year and in between that internal exams are conducted for students practice. As from my point of view none of the exams could be difficult to pass, because if you study properly you will perform well in exams , if you didn't study then you will not perform well, as simple.
