What Students Say
Likes
- The campus is huge, and full of opportunities. You just have to be open to showcasing your talent, whatever it may be and you'll find your space. The infrastructure is great with phantom labs to practice adequately before treating an actual patient.
- Apart from treating patients and learning in college, we're also taken to RHCs and UHCs during our public health dentistry postings, widening our perspective and ability to deal with different patients and learn at the same time
- Unlike many colleges, SRMKDC makes sure that even UG interns attend Casualty cases with night duties along with OMFS PGs and we also get to attend the patients in OT and in ward. This has to be one of my favourite learning experiences in college
Dislikes
- I absolutely loved my time at SRMKDC and I'm forever grateful for all that I learned here and am proud to call myself and alumni of this college.
- I have no complaints about my experience here. But if I do have to mention something I disliked, it would be the never-ending rush and crowd in the canteen, but nothing can be done about it.
- But still, efforts have been made by the college to make a separate cubical area for us dental students within the canteen to make sure we have our space and that does help a little.
Course Curriculum Overview
Curriculum advised by DCI is followed. And I would say that we're very well prepared for real-world applications and further academic pursuits because their teachings and lectures played some role in helping me do well in MDS entrance exams and secure a good rank in first attempt. Internal assessments are conducted at regular timely intervals with two model exams per year. The exams are moderately difficult, but that's good since the things that they stress on are most likely the things that would travel with us even after college and in further studies.
Internships Opportunities
There's a compulsory one year rotatory internship after 4 years of studying. We're posted in all the 9 different departments in batches and learn and treat patients in each one. This helps in dedicating time and learning each department in depth
Fees and Financial Aid
The total fee for my batch was ?3LPA and an additional fee of ?75,000 was paid for books and instruments. Additionally, we had to spend some money every year as exam fees, which varied from year to year and was compulsory. Apart from this, we had to spend money on buying some additional instruments and materials for ourselves by the staff, like suture bed, wires for wire bending, etc., but this was not paid to the college, but rather spent on shops to get the materials and instruments and learn. In internship year, we were given stipend every month.
Campus Life
Every year, TAANDAV, an intracollege sports and cultural event is conducted in dental college, where we're divided into 4 different houses and our competitive spirits are fuelled. Our batch organised TAANDAV '23 and I'm very happy to have been a part of it. Apart from this, we also attend culturals of other colleges from time to time. I personally loved attending the numerous conferences, culturals and sports events in different parts of the city along with our collegemates. Attending many such events helped me learn a lot and find talents I didn't know I had. It also gave me a huge sense of confidence which I otherwise may have lacked
Admission
We had to appear for NEET exam which happens once a year and can enroll through all India counseling by mentioning SRMKDC as one of your top preferences. Once you get this college alotted to you through the counseling, the enrollment process is rather simple and nothing to worry about
Faculty
Most of the staff are MDS graduates and some have even more qualifications like super specialisations, fellowships and even PhD. All the staff members are also found to be constantly involved in research in their area of interest and publish in well-known journals. This makes them to keep improving their knowledge which in turn makes them teach us many new things, everyday. The teachers are very approachable and guide us to improve our clinical skills in the most efficient manner. When doing any case in any department, irrespective of its simplicity or complexity, a staff is always there to guide us and supervise every step of the way. This makes sure that along with us learning things properly, we're also able to provide the best possible care to the patient.
