Entrance Preview

EAMCET was the common entrance exam for B.Pharmacy. In 2006, the most trending course option was B.Pharmacy. Due to high number of students who opted for this course I looked for college that was pretty old and which had good experienced lecturers. Reasons to select Dr.SGIPS-- Old and well established college.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

Affiliation for this college is with Acharya Nagarjuna University. Course curriculum is not different from any other Universities within the state. Faculty at Dr.SGIPS in 2006 (especially) wasn't that impressive. Most of the lecturers were of less experience and had poor exposure to latest research and lacked with essential and effective communication skills. There are some handpicked lecturers who sincerely dedicated their profession. Move we turned ourselves as matured individuals, they even improved the zeal in teaching and student interaction. By the end of the course 2010 the faculty was well established and far better than the case of 2006, 2007.

Internships Opportunities

No Industrial internships or paid internships were encouraged. We were strongly restricted to perform our final year projects at our college itself.

Placement Experience

0.5

No placement assistance or guidance was provided by the college. Unfortunately the exposure towards the market and basic communication skills training was also not provided. We just were in touch with our seniors and personal relationships. For Pharmacy especially, its really difficult to gain a good opportunity.

College Events

4

In the years 2006, 2007 there were no interesting fests or seminars held. Starting with 2008, the college has started a 2-day technical seminar which covers technical papers and oral presentations from the students who have been shortlisted from online abstract invites. The fest is called "Pharma Quest", I should accept the fact that our Chairperson takes this event very prestigious and organizes this event with fullest efforts.

Fee Structure And Facilities

I didn't stay in the hostel but had friends who stayed in college's hostel for a while. Mess food for both boys and girls hostels is same. Food is a kind of tasty, they take good care in providing quality food for students. Hostel maintenance for both girls and boys is pathetic. No special amenities to be expected. Most of the guys would stay for first year and they just look for some affordable room nearby and move out but for girls unfortunately theres no option. Availing the hostel facility is mandatory for girls. Fee was close to 50,000/year which is pretty high with the standards they maintain.

Fees and Financial Aid

No scholarships or funding provided or encouraged. From 2009, there was a government fee reimbursement scheme wherein half price of our annual fee was reversed. Currently the fee reimbursement is fully funded by government for students who have got admission via counselling.

Campus Life

2.5

Campus life and overall experience is just average. You never can be enthusiastic with the infrastructure at this college, span of 2006-2010 was truly a developing phase, the management has sown seeds (infrastructure) very lately and we could see them sprouting before we leave. No conditioned rooms or labs. No, power backup facility also, in summer average temperature was close to 45 degrees and imagine we still managed in our classes sweating for hours together.I really didn't find gender discrimination, as I said earlier, management is really stringent in maintaining discipline in college. They maintained good levels of integrity within students. Labs are not really impressive. Store maintenance is just ok. No much practical importance is given. We rarely see people investing good time at labs here.

Alumni/Alumna

Alumni network is very poor. In fact I never found the management to take efforts in organizing reunions. Seniors were kind of supportive but I never found productive guidance.

The practical work must be focused more than the theory as it helps the students to understand the subject in more depth . Exams should be conducted only after completion of the syllabus but not on a hurry .

Remarks:

Positive- A college for knowledge seeking students. Can achieve whole lot of new things and will definitely have practical knowledge. Negative- No one loves to mention about negatives about their college but I would say if they encourage extracurricular activities then that’s enough.
