I got here though JEE 2014. I opted metallurgical engineering as it was the best suited for my interests. I had secured the ranks as follows 1977 in OBC, 11038 AIR. This made me the branch opener in my category for my branch.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course curriculum is pretty decent. It same for all branches of study in first year. It had basics and advance mathematics, physics and chemistry. we were taught biology as well to make the necklace complete. From second year onward, we had our department subjects and practicals. And yes there are lots of practical work and projects that one can do and one has to do to remain at par with international level of understanding and depth in our respective field of study.
Internships Opportunities
College don't provide internships though it being a compulsory part of our course. What college does is they invite companies to take tests and select the desired eligible candidate for the same. Company is not bound to select and can return without offering intern to anybody. College do provide us with a chance but is not obligatory to do so. Internships, in general, are vey interactive and rejuvenating. I was offered one by Tata Steel, Jamshedpur. It was a 8 week long core intern. It was nourishing to theoretical studies, I really enjoyed it a lot. I was offered INR 20,000 as stipend. There no such average stipend. It greatly varies from company to company and branch to branch. For some company, it may be few lakhs as well. It really depends upon how capable one is.
Placement Experience
IIT BHU ranks number 1 in MHRD's list for best placements. We have a well organised and robust training and placement cell.Internships offered to students by any eminent industry or firm often get converted to PPOs (Pre-Placement Offers) . Written test starts from the very beginning of 7th/9th semester. December is the month scheduled for all the interviews. Packages offered are quite high and more than 90% aspiring students get placed. Average package differ form branch to branch maximum being little over INR 2 Cr for a CSE mate last year.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Its a government institute but the fees is not that low. We have to INR 45,000 per semester as our tuition fees. All the accessories and this sums up to INR 50,950. We have to pay INR 12,000 as advance mess charge which is then deducted as we progress in our semester.
Hostel Facilities
For all who have their names enrolled in IIT, have to reside in the hostel provided by college. More over there is a special annual hostel rotation scheme. In first year, all students from different branch, are allotted rooms in two hostels. After that, we were to change our hostels on yearly basis. Room size and furnish varies from hostel to hostel. Rooms are either of bi-occupancy or tri-occupancy. We dot have PGs administered by college administration but the nearby area do have a number of them.

Faculty
All of our faculty member have a completed their PhD and are still pursuing their field of research. Their experience varies from 5 years to 30 years. Well few of them are just marvelous while others are bit too busy. Classroom studies are more or less quit interactive while practicals are very exhaustive as it requires great deal of reasoning and attention on whatever being discussed. Standard of teaching is quite high but it all come down to how attentive one is.
