Remarks
My college is decent. I probably won't consider it the best college in the world. But the experience you get, the lessons you learn, and the value of dentistry is definitely brought out by my college. As long as you stay strong and get through this grueling process, you will look back and see how much you've grown thanks to all the circumstances that it's put you through. You'll not just gain friends, you'll gain a family
Entrance Preview
I got to know this college through a college broker. I'm a management student. There was an option of getting through NEET, COMEDK or CET but since I'm a management student I'm unaware of that process. Only recently it has become compulsory to clear the minimum marks of NEET entrance exam so you must ask someone who has written and cleared it.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course is amazing. Maybe I'm biased because I always wanted to be a dentist. What you must know however is that you have to shell out a lot of bucks for the books, instruments and dental materials. It isn't just about brain power, you need to work with your hands. Some may even compare it to manual labor. But in the long run, it sure is worth it.
Internships Opportunities
Yes, there is a one year internship following 4 years of grueling studies. It's great. But there is no stipend.
Placement Experience
Sorry, there aren't any placements in dentistry as it is up to you whether you'd like to follow up by working in a hospital, or opening up your own dental clinic, or even resorting to becoming a dental hygienist. However you can apply and join the same college as a junior lecturer.
College Events
There is mainly one event that takes place throughout the year. It happens usually around the time the freshers enter. We call it the college month. Every day there will be some event, ranging from musicals, sports, dramas, photography, dances. It's a great time to bond with college mates and get to know your seniors and juniors. Everyone is divided into 4 houses and we all represent our team. At the end, if your respective house is leading with points, it wins.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The entire course is expensive. Around 2 or 3 lakhs per year. There is flexibility with the payment and must be paid on time otherwise there will be fine. If you count the exam fees also it will be more, depending on the number of subjects you're giving.
Fees and Financial Aid
As far as I know, there is a scholarship programme for CET students. But I have no much knowledge about it.
Campus Life
The gender ratio is decent and equally distributed. Conferences are held, which any UG or PG is free to attend provided if there is an entry charge or not. Competitions are not that frequent throughout the year, but like I mentioned, the college month is full of competitions so it's a lot of fun. Sometimes there are intercollegiate sports competitions too that you can try out. There isn't any partiality with respect to sexual orientation, politics, economics, race and religion..not that I've experienced it. There is even a strict policy of anti-ragging.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel and it's food are satisfactory. You obviously can't expect five star hotel service. But you can't complain, there are worse hostels out there. There is free WiFi of about 4 gb per month so that is good. The hostel curfew for girls is 8 pm but can be 9 pm, that's not an issue. For a guy's it is 1 11 pm. Hostel fees are Rs 80,000 per annum.
Alumni/Alumna
As long as you get off on the right foot with your seniors and give them well-deserved respect, they will always stick up for you. PGs always are helpful and you know you can count on your seniors for help as they are more experienced and can be really great mentors.
Exam Structure
Hectic. From first to third year at least there are 3 subjects, but in final year you have to face 8 subjects. Yes, it's as scary as the thought. Depending on which department you're in, you'll have time to spare accordingly. So you will have to really work hard, last minute studies won't work in final year. But if you're genuinely interested, you can always approach the lecturers separately and ask for help. Everyone wants you to learn, you just get too drained at one point though. So time management is important along with a healthy dose of fun.
Admission
A college broker lead me to this college. I had to pay the donation along with the first year's and fill the admission form. Every year before writing your final exams you'll have to pay for the following years fees. For me my annual fees are 2.5 lakhs. You have to meet the Dean and he decides who will be admitted.
Faculty
Some lecturers make the experience worth it, while some just make it to class for their salary. It's like a normal college in this aspect. Some lecturers try to do their best, but fact is not all people with a dental qualification in their pocket has it in them to teach. So I'll call it average.
