Remarks
Good in basics and manpower. Needs update in organisation level and quality.
Entrance Preview
I took many entrance examinations. One among them is Krlmcet, which comprises religious and linguistic minority colleges of karnataka. I scored about 80 percentage. Generally in this group all institutions are self financing and hence the fees is high. I opted for this college as it had the best fee structure as per my needs and a doctor distantly known to us recommended this college to me.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course curriculum is based on Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bengaluru which complies with MCI standards of medical education. This college is basically a teaching institute rather than research. So not much of research activity goes on here
Internships Opportunities
Yes they do provide an internship of one year duration encompassing all the departments. They don't give any monetary stipend for interns, but they do provide accommodation near to hospital free of cost. The twelve months of learning during internship was the high point of my college days.
Placement Experience
They don't have any placement programmes as such, but i have seen many of my seniors working here as resident doctors. As far as job opportunities are concerned there is no dearth of jobs for doctors in India or overseas. Everyone gets a job somewhere or the other or opens his own clinic/hospital
College Events
Every year they conduct a fresher's day to welcome the new batch of students, then a farewell day to felicitate outgoing students and an annual week celebrations comprising various sports and cultural events. Most of the events were organised by the students which gives them the learning edge in event management and other interpersonal skills
Fee Structure And Facilities
Course Fee structure was 3.75 lakhs per annum. It excludes the hostel fee, mess fee, events fee, exams fee etc. Compared to other medical colleges this seemed to be a feasible one. One had to pay the fees in one straight payment either in cash or demand draft. They don't encourage instalment payments.
Fees and Financial Aid
I haven't known of any scholarship or loan offered by this college. Though many students who join through the Karnataka government held KCET have facilities for scholarships from the government.
Campus Life
Gender ratio used to be almost 1:1 Campus life was very good. Though there weren't much of well organised events in campus, we had fun in our own ways in organising birthdays , hostel day etc. Student population was very diverse with students from many different states of india, though most of them were from the Hyderabad-Karnataka region. There was also diversity in religions and unity amongst us. On some occasions local goons used to play spoilsport. There was not much of any political activity
Hostel Facilities
College hostel was good. Rooms were spacious. Three students were given one room. Each student had a bed, a cupboard, a study table and a chair. One had to use common toilets as there were no attached bathroom in the rooms. Fee was also affordable at 1000 rupees per month. Very rarely problems like water scarcity during summers and roof drippings during heavy rains used to happen. But otherwise it was good and pleasant stay in the hostel.Hostel food was just average, good on some special days/Sundays and worse on few days. Mess fee was about 1000 per month. There used to be few friends of mine who used to stay outside as paying guests or on just rents. They used to pay around 1000-4000 for stay as per the rooms.
Alumni/Alumna
As far as I know of there is no alumini association. The alumunus have networks of their own with respect to batch years or friends. One could rather call it as college friends network rather than alumunus network as they don't do much often which can help the institution or the students in any ways.
Exam Structure
Most of the preclinical and para clinical departments use to conduct monthly assessment/test which were most of the times casual. In a year they conduct about three official internal assessment which were of importance from students point of view, as based on the marks secured in these exams one was given internal marks for the final yearly university exams. So these exams were bit nerving. And last but not the least the final university exams used to leave everyone drained. Those were the most hectic days of my life. Clinical departments exams were relatively chilled compared to pre and para clinicals.
Admission
First when I decided I want to pursue medicine I got in touch with many doctors and hospital administrators known to me to get details regarding medical colleges. That is how I came to know about this college from a hospital administrator. I went and approached the admission office directly and they explained to me the process. First I had to write KRLMCET and then during admission they gave me the forms. Once I filled inthe forms and paid the fees, i had joined the institution.
Faculty
Pre clinical and para clinical faculty were excellent. One could sense the teacher student relationship very well in these portion. Most of them were totally dedicated and made sure everyone learns. As far as clinical faculty is concerned half of them lack the interest to make one learn the subject. But that doesn't mean there is no one to teach. There were few top notch teachers who made the whole learning experience a beautiful one.
