Remarks

The college should have a proper student committee consisting of people from the students as representatives. They should try to take the requests of the students into priority.

Entrance Preview

I got in through the All India Amrita Entrance Exam and secured a rank of around 3200. The list for the college came out later asking students to attend counselling based on the ranks. The higher ranks would be called first and be given higher priority.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course curriculum is pretty detailed covering almost everything from the basics to the advanced topics required for a good Computer Science engineer. The first year topics included basics of other branches such as Mechanical and Electrical too. We also had Maths and Electronics till third year. This helped shape the computer subjects around the basics pretty well.

Internships Opportunities

Yes, the college allows us to take part in the internship if provided by companies for 6 months in the last semester of the college. The companies which came were Oracle, Amazon, Payoda, Seagate, Arista, Cisco and various other companies. Some companies provided full time employment along with internship while some just provided the internship. The stipend varied from Rs. 10000 to Rs. 40000.

Placement Experience

4.5

The placements and job opportunities in college are pretty good with the average salary being around 5.5 lakhs per annum. Lot of big companies such as Seagate, Zoho, Oracle, Amazon companies came as well as lot of startups. The highest salary was around 20 lakhs.

College Events

3.5

There are some events which are celebrated with great pomp and splendor in our college. One of them is Gokulashtami where its a traditional day with everybody dressed up in the local way. The girls wear sarees and the guys wear dhoti. There is a competition between the various departments in events such as tug of war, chariot decoration and other events. Another is the tech-fest Anokha which is the inter college tech-fest. It ends on the third day with performances from renowned artists. There is also a college day called Amritotsavam celebrated.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fees is considered to be expensive. They charge around 1.3 lakhs as tuition fees. Other than that there is the hostel fees of 20000 which is apt for the room we get and 40000 as the mess fees which is exorbitant as the food is bad and we don't eat from there most of the days. The other parts of the fees also include Establishment fees and other fees and the total comes up to around 2.5 lakhs.

Campus Life

4

The gender ratio is almost 1:1 except in the Mechanical department where there are literally no females. There are no student parties inside the hostel unless its a birthday when there may be a small cake cutting. The diversity of students is limited as its filled with mostly Indians and that too Hindus. But the college is open to everything and can be considered to have a moderate tolerance to anything accepted in India.

Hostel Facilities

3

The hostel facilities can be termed as good. We have around 5 bathrooms for 20 people. In first year we had to share the rooms with 3 other people while in we got single rooms in the fourth year. The mess food is bad. They assure food is made under hygienic conditions but its not tasty. All people have to stay inside hostels only unless you are day scholars from Coimbatore or Palakkad.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni network is practically absent in Amrita unless you have contacts with seniors beforehand. Although starting from 2017, they are setting up a proper alumni network with alumni ID cards and a portal to connect to other people.

Exam Structure

The exam structure is 2 periodical exams and 1 final exam along with continuous assessment. The first periodical constitutes of 15% weight age, second periodical of 20% weight-age and the continuous assessment of 15% which consists of assignments and class tests. The final exam makes up for 50% of the marks after which the results are given in a CGPA format.

Admission

The admission process started with the counselling where the students were called one by one, A huge screen flashed in front which showed the number of seats remaining for each branch. Thankfully for me all the branches were remaining and I chose to go ahead with Computer Science. After this there was a photo session and filling up of various forms with the submission of certificates.

Faculty

4

The faculty of the college are well qualified to teach us and have been a huge support for all the students. The teachers allow us to participate openly in discussions and also have good projects to which we can contribute and better ourselves. They are with us from the day we enter college, till we pass out.
