Remarks
Overall The college is good and definitely one of the best for BCA in Pune. It is a NAAC accredited 'A' grade college so that speaks up mostly. The facilities provided by the institution are good enough and can be used by the students. Most of the people in the management are co-operative, there are some exceptions though but that can be ignored provided the fact that all other things are good. Faculties are supportive and encourage interaction from students throughout the course curriculum.
Entrance Preview
The college has its own entrance for BCA. During my time it consisted 100 questions to be solved in 2 hours. I had scored 86 in it . The test is pretty easy and I think it can be cracked with a week's preparation. Now I think the entrance exam is followed by interviews and its not difficult to crack the interviews anyway.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is decided by University of Pune and hence, I feel it is somewhat outdated as per industry standards but still better than 90% of the Indian Universities. The college conducts at least one research paper presentation event in an year to encourage students to focus on research. First year syllabus has C as the only programming language and MS Access , SQL is taught in the database. Second year onwards the course becomes IT oriented and shifts to Visual Basic, C++, Data Structures , Computer Networking, Operating Systems, Mathematics and Statistics, E-Commerce, Software Engineering. Third year has One project per Semester which can be done either in C++/ VB in first sem and Java/ .NET in second. The third year subjects are Core and Advanced Java , VB.NET, Web Technologies ( HTML, CSS, JavaScript) , Advanced Web Technologies (PHP, XML and AJAX) , ERP , Recent Trends in IT, Software Testing etc. The practical knowledge of these technologies is tested through practical examinations each semester.
Internships Opportunities
No , the college doesn't provide internships. It has its dedicated Placement Cell that notifies about existing opportunities to its student but the stipend / pay is comparatively low. The college does support its students who take up internship / jobs and the students are exempted from its 75% attendance rule in some cases. (Mostly applicable for final year students) .
Placement Experience
The college has its focus on placements and does give out the notifications about off campus drives. Every year it also conducts a Placement Fair where companies visit the campus to recruit candidates across the courses. Till last year the Placement Fair had only a few companies coming in for BCA Students namely TCS, Wipro and a few startups. The package provided by these companies for BCA Students is 1.8 LPA. The college encourages its students to go for off-campus drives and the 2016 batch witnessed over 20 students getting placed in companies like Vodafone, Deloitte Consulting, Capgemini , KPIT , TCS, Accenture , Syntel through off campus drives. As per last year stats the BCA final year batch consisted of 70 students out of which around 30 had applied for placements while the rest went for post graduation. Five students were placed at 3.3 LPA which was the highest package offered for BCA level.
College Events
College holds an yearly festival called ' Youthizon ' where events like Quiz, Mad Ads, Coding Competition, Management Games, Box Cricket, Tug of War are conducted. The fest is conducted over the span of three days and each day certain dress code is to be followed by the students if they wish to. The fest time is fun and we get to see the lighter side of the faculties. Every year in the month of Jan/Feb college conducts Educational Tour where we visit and interact with different industry leaders. Certain activities are conducted every month like Essay Writing, Poster Making etc to encourage students show their creative sides. The college also has certain associations like Entrepreneurship Cell which encourages Entrepreneurship among the students, Language Association , Economics Association etc.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is feasible. The fees cost around 60,000 per year for Maharashtra State candidates and around 80,000 per year for Out of Maharashtra candidates. The fees can be paid in two / three installments over the year which makes it feasible for the students.
Fees and Financial Aid
Scholarship facility isn't available but the college has earn while you learn scheme which helps students support themselves while completing education. There are certain government scholarships for SC, ST's , Minorities and Economically Backward students the info of which can be availed from the college office.
Campus Life
The campus life is just like any other big college in Pune, there is quite good amount of diversity in the college with some international students in the campus. The gender ratio is almost equal in most of the classes. Sports meet is conducted every year, competitions like debate, business plan are conducted once a month. The college has its anti ragging cell which prevents ragging in any form. The college also has NCC and NSS where students can enroll themselves if they wish to participate. The college has its well equipped library which has lot of good books, novels, periodicals, reference books etc. The college also has a dedicated lab to watch learning videos, access CD's that come along with reference books. It has its own big ground for sports and a gymnasium too,
Hostel Facilities
The hostel facility is available in the college and the fees are around 60,000 for year. You need to have first class (60% + ) at the end of every year to stay in the hostel in the next year. The food in the mess is average , better than most of the hostels though. Basically its two / three sharing. The PG's can be easily obtained in pune through online websites.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni's are called upon once a while to guide students about the trends in the industry, answer certain questions regarding placements/ career guidance etc. As per my experience they have been helpful. But I think this is the field where college can work on. The alumni network needs to be built better and more alumni interactions shall take place.
Exam Structure
Two internal tests are conducted before every semester. At least one assignment per subject needs to be completed before every internal test. Some faculties also conduct weekly tests to check the understanding of students for certain topics. The semester is conducted as per University rules which follows this structure 1. Practical Examination 2. Project Evaluation (for final year students) 3. Written Examination.
Admission
I used to check websites of all the colleges and came across its notification there. I went to the college personally, collected the form , appeared for entrance and BOOM - I got my admission. Now the process is partly online i.e. the forms need to be filled online , submitted to the college in person , entrance test , interviews followed by confirmation of admission upon which you're supposed to pay the fees.
Faculty
Most of the faculty is well-qualified and excellent as far as skills are concerned. Teaching wise too most of them are pretty good and focus on interactive learning aspects. The faculty is definitely one of the best for the BCA course in Pune. Interactive sessions like Presentations are regularly conducted by the faculties and the faculties ensure that there is adequate student contribution during the lectures. Assignments are conducted on regular basis to check the understanding of students on important topics. The faculties also promote the digital aspect of learning by circulating notes through e-mails and ppts . They encourage the students to participate in the extra curricular activities and placement fairs that are conducted in the city.
