Remarks
Okay so I'm gonna give you a detailed description of my admission procedure. As I decided to pursue M.Sc Computer Science from my home town only, I needed to apply for admission by registering myself in the university i.e. Choudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut. Few days after registration, first merit was released and I was selected there and then. I got a call from my college i.e. Meerut College and I went for the admission. I was really skeptical about it in the first place because this college was renowned for its political culture and bad people driven environment especially for girls. But still I decided to go further. I still remember my first day in the college was on 10/08/2018. As I entered the college and went to my department, I was relieved to see that our department (Department of Professional Courses) was entirely separate from all other traditional departments. Since Meerut College is really ancient (estb.1892), it doesn't have the modern infrastructure and gives the feel of that really old colleges. But my department (as it's newly built) was somewhat better than the rest. Hereby I'll mention the pros and cons of my total experience of 2 years in the college. Pros: 1. Teachers are really qualified. 2. Regardless the strength of the class, classes were held regularly. 3. Entire course was completed by the teachers before the exams and also good notes were given. 4. Seniors were helpful in giving notes and previous year question papers. 5. Scholarships were given to almost every student who applied for it through UP Scholarship and Fee Reimbursement Scheme. Cons: 1. No extra curricular activities like games, annual events, freshers and farewell parties, etc. 2. No modern infrastructure like ACs, well-built washrooms, canteen, etc. 3. Out of the strength of 38, max 10 students came to college regularly. 4. No in-campus placements.
Course Curriculum Overview
Starting with why did I choose this course, I previously did B.Sc Computer Science so I wanted to do PG in that department only. As it's more of an IT world these days so I thought doing a technical course in Computer Science will be a win-win. Also, it didn't have that much burden of subjects so students who were also doing jobs alongwith the studies, were able to cope well. As I previously mentioned there was a strength of 38 students in my course of which 10 attended the classes on a regular basis, teacher: student ratio was pretty optimal. Faculties were highly qualified in their field, most of them had done doctorates. Queries were easily and efficiently handled. Teaching method was pretty good. They explained the topics and gave complete notes. In terms of subjects that required coding, proper praticals and lab practices were done. Exams were held timely. The course duration was 2 years in which there were 4 semesters of 6 months each. In each semester, there were 2 internal exams of all subjects based on the amount of course covered at that point of time. And then after every 6 months there were external or semester exams. Within 1 month of the semester exams, practicals were taken of the applicable subjects and then the final result was declared by the University. Difficulty level of the exams was easy to medium. If one has gone through the notes, one could easily pass the exams.
Internships Opportunities
There were no internships provided by the college as such. And even personally, I didn't opted for one. I just kept giving interviews in different companies and now I'm a software developer. (The question below is not applicable)
Placement Experience
Okay so as I said earlier there were no college placement in our batch due to Covid but I can tell you about placements generally. Students were eligible to sit into placements in the third sem itself. Also, there were no in-campus placements but the students were eligible to go for out- campus placements. Like if there's any company visiting any other college in our city, you can go and apply. The packages after doing a PG in Computer Science range from 2.5 - 6 LPA. Even though there were no placements for me due to Covid I was still able to grab some decent offers from giants like Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Amazon, Convergys etc. But in the end I settled for the position of a software developer at Knoldus Softwares Inc. Noida. And not only me, my batchmates are also working in one or the other companies now.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Okay so starting with the admission only, _1500 was paid for the registration for admission. And then the tuition fee which was _32500 for both the years. There was no other fee except for examination fee taken in every semester to fill examination forms. In the very first semester, examination fee was around _3500 and then for the following 3 semesters it was around _1800. The tuition and exam fee was fixed for every student, there was no relaxation in that regardless of any reservation or anything. But under the scheme of UP Scholarship and Fee Reimbursement Scheme, almost every student who filled up the form with proper and original documents, got scholarships in which total fees (_32,500) was reimbursed and also an additional scholarship of _3600 was given which was the happiest moment for all of us and a reason to celebrate. This scheme came out every year so you can get your total fee for both the years reimbursed. As far as campus placements are concerned, our batch (2018-20) was really unfortunate because in our last year, the world was struck by COVID-19. Even our final semester exams got delayed from July to September and no campus placements happened.
Campus Life
To be honest, there is no life at campus except for studies. Classes were held from 10AM-3PM and after 3 you would barely find a student in the campus because of the lack of infrastructure as I previously mentioned. There were no annual or tech fests. Availability of books in the library is decent. Books applicable to your courses were provided by the college. Also, you can take extra books to read if you want. Amenities in classroom consists of lights and fans, armchairs, teacher's chair and desk and a blackboard. (Yes, the one with the chalk and duster.) For sports, there was a dedicated ground which is also very famous in our city i.e. the Victoria park. You can register yourself there by showing college's ID card. No extra curriculars were there. In the name of social groups and clubs, you'll only see political groups trying to seek vote and support everywhere for being the student president. The college literally followed: Come-Study-Leave-Repeat.
Hostel Facilities
I'm not aware of the hostel facilities that much because I didn't take one. But I have heard that the fee is almost negligible and 2-3 students were accomodated in a single room. Again, I'm not the right person to answer this. (The question below again doesn't apply)
Admission
No, once you fall under the merit criteria you're all set for admission. No personal interview or group discussion happens. (In the question below, interview experience is not applicable to me so I'm just giving 10)
