Remarks
Admission was on the basis of S.S.C marks. Since SASMIRA is a well-known institute for textiles in Mumbai, I didn't apply to any other colleges. As I had completed HSC, I got an exemption from appearing for maths and English exams in the first year. The admission process is simply provided you know which course you have to choose. Min marks required are 50%.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose the course textile chemistry coz I wanted to make a career in textile processing. The facilities are excellent. Many are from UGCT and themselves have experience in the textile industry. The teaching method is very good with practicals and industry visits so that concept becomes clear. Term exams during that time were once a year but there were regular test sessions. Term exam was difficult as you had to be thorough with chemical equations of textiles and dyes and the various properties of fibers and fabric treatment processes.
Placement Experience
Placements are good as normally textile companies approach sasmira to get trainees for their organization. The package is average as students are freshers and hired as trainees first. Almost 80% of students get placement.
Fees and Financial Aid
The cost of course during that period was nominal. There are various scholarships and cash rewards in the successful completion of your annual exams with a first-class first. I had topped my college in the final year and I was lucky enough to get a job for Thailand in the campus interview on the first day of the result declaration.
Campus Life
Sasmirotsav is the annual fest and celebrated with fashion shows and talent hunts. The library has all the books to quench your thirst for knowledge of textiles. The laboratories are equipped with all the necessary equipment. Intercollege engineering competitions and sports competitions are always there.
