Remarks

The admission process is quite simple. The minimum eligibility for admission is 55% and above for enrollment in this course. Admissions have to be completed by June. Your class and entry will be determined as per the aptitude test that is referred by the college. The aptitude test takes place in Mulund. After 3 days of aptitude test classes, they will determine whether you are right for this course and if you have what it takes to survive in the hospitality industry. On the induction day, you are expected to present yourself in a groomed manner with a clean shave and formal clothes. The secondary level students will come and share their experiences about their past year in college and in the hospitality industry. The college expects you to go for atleast 3-4 days of waiting, which is like an internship where you go to 4-5 hotels and perform in banquet positions to understand the role.

Course Curriculum Overview

2

I chose this course as it was the only hands-on experience course available to me given my 12th percentage and ease of finding a job. The Couse entails a wide variety of industries ranging from hotels, restaurants, bars, cafes, hospitals, airports, sales and so on. The faculty at the university is quite strict and a bit uncooperative and unaccommodating, although they are people from this industry that have experience. There are 2 teachers for each subject and a total of 9-10 faculty members are permanent. The management can be rude and abrupt as this course requires you to be prepared for all scenarios and possibilities Exams are timely and happen twice a year which include both Viva's and written exams. Both are pretty easy to clear with ample opportunities to reappear if you do not clear in the first attempt.

Internships Opportunities

1.5

The companies offer a variety of roles depending upon your course and they can range anywhere from an entry level cook to a management intern. Your course your skill and your abilities will decide what the companies will offer you but they will normally not put you into an active role straight away. The stipend is pretty low and can be as low as 15000 rupees per month and can go all the way up to 45000 rupees depending upon which company hires you. The most popular companies that normally hire students out of the universities are Hyatt Marriotts Sheraton Hilton Bose and yum enterprises. If you end up in a QSR your position will include working in restaurants and smaller outlets compared to if you are hired by one of the multinationals which will place you in a more reputed role. Trans involve everything from Pizza make a line to wait for staff at a hotel and also management intern.

Placement Experience

1.5

Students are eligible for placement from the third year onwards. The placement of quite menial and are for basic entry-level positions in hotels airport and restaurants. Companies that visit the university are Marriotts, Hilton, Sheraton and Hyatt. Job profile usually includes entry-level positions such as banquet workers waiters our cook staff. Some of the highest skilled students are even offered management training programs where they can train along with the current management to get to know the in and out of the operation. The average package is normally around 4 to 10 lacs per annum and that includes all job profiles has the entry-level positions are one of the lowest in the industry. About 30% of the students get placed within the campus placements and the rest of them are given opportunities to appear for interviews across other sectors as well as in different countries.

Fees and Financial Aid

At the time of joining, the fees were for 11 months (1 semester) and they ranged between 45000-125000 for each semester. Courses such as diploma in cooking and chef services were on the lower end and ranged in between 45000-60000 and bachelor's courses which ran for 4 years were a bit more expensive and could go upto 125000. There are plenty of quotas and scholarships available for SC/ST and several other categories and their fees was only 20% of what other students paid. The rest was all reimbursed to them. Fees hike has been happening every year with the demand for culinary studies and arts, as well as the cost of living expenses and culinary equipment. It has been height by rupees 10000 constantly for the past 5 years and is currently running close to 125000 rupees for the course. 13 ample of financial help available from the banks and other NBFC but there is no help available from the university as such. The jobs are menial and the pay is very low.

Campus Life

1.5

The annual fest school Jalsa and happens once every year in the month of November it is mostly related to culinary and hospitality studies. There are ample stalls with the students and they can showcase their skills and abilities. Management and faculty from different big industries as well that comment to look for skilled people at this event. As far as the immunity is in the classroom goes, there are not any. The classrooms are pretty worn out haven't been renovated in over 10 to 15 years. The equipment in the computer room as well as their demo restaurant is also quite old and needs to be updated per the latest company standards. DU has a big ground but it is not used for any sports or extracurricular activities, the university usually rents out for use of other people. There are no Books provided in the course, all the books have to be purchased separately ok copied from the ones that they have in the library.
