Remarks
The admission process was quite straightforward. I attended the counseling set by Anna University and chose the university based on my preference and the options listed for the marks I had scored. The minimum cut-off mark required to enter the programme was 184.6 and has no limit for the age group to attend.
Course Curriculum Overview
I had an interest in machines and technologies and mechanical engineering felt interesting hence I chose the course for my bachelors. Academic-wise, there were a lot of opportunities to learn but it lacked more industry-oriented skill-based learning activities. There were no big projects and management was quite rough in entertaining such activities by limiting the resources needed. More of half of the professors lacked profound knowledge and had a shallow perspective towards the subjects. (A comment on the previous statement - It was enough to pass but not so helpful in understanding the concepts and reflecting in work). Except for the main exam which was monitored by Anna University, all the other exams just prevailed for the sake of attendance. Majority flunked from writing the exam and still managed to get good grades as if they had written the exam.
Internships Opportunities
Internships will be offered through the placement cell and are not for everyone. So, there is no stipend involved. Companies that do offer intern in collaboration with the placement cell aren't well established to name them.
Placement Experience
There were no highly competitive companies at the placement drive. One's that gave us the oppurtunity to attend the interview was not offering the desired position we have studied for. Overall, the placement was quite below average. One can definitely end up in some low-paid physically demanding job but it would not satisfy the learning we have gone through. The average salary offered is between 10000-14000 with the highest peaking at 20000. I had plans to do master's hence, I refrained from attending job interviews.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure was impressive and we all had a good time while being in campus. Food and transportation costs seemed to be very little compared to what we had been offered. Scholarships and other aids were given to the deserving students and to those who showcased excellent academic performance.
Campus Life
Life at the campus has its own pros and cons. We had a good infrastructure and the campus itself was built in conjuction with nature. But on the other hand, there were too many restrictions that ruined the college life altogether for everyone. Some of the unethical rules like strict dress code with a specified grooming routine, lack of communication between the opposite gender, monitored by employed personnels all the time, lack of importance to physical activities and no complete utilisation of the campus green space. There were no big clubs or atleast the ones that existed sis not have much importance. For a pure, learning-only motive students, this place is a heaven filled with all the amenities and good food. For those who wish to explore things, this isn't the place for you to be.
Other Applied Colleges
Sairam Institutions | Mechanical Engineering
I wasn't impressed by the management at that time.
