Remarks

I applied for the Masters in Biochemistry program at Ethiraj College for Women. I did not avail of any quota and applied as a regular student. The admission process was a smooth one, but your profile is screened for eligibility. Their criteria for admission is to have at least an 80% score in the B.Sc program. Once you are cleared as eligible, you will be asked to attend an interview with one of the professors of the concerned department, who asks some subject-related questions to gain an understanding of your grasp on the subject. The final interview is with the Principal of the college.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

I chose this course because of my love for science. Biochemistry is an interesting subject, an amalgamation of various life sciences, coming together as one. The faculty: student ratio is good (around 1 professor for 25 students). The professors and assistant professors are highly qualified and handle the classes well. Their teaching methods are clear and the lectures are crisp and understandable. Regular assignments were given and Seminars were held. Term exams were held in a timely and orderly manner. The pass rate is quite high at Ethiraj.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

We were not provided internship directly with the college, but we were encouraged to follow up on internships out of college during vacations. We were encouraged to pursue internships with top companies and bring our experience back to college.

Placement Experience

4.5

Students are eligible for placement from the 3rd semester onwards. Several top companies visited and many students were placed. I, myself, got placed at a top MNC via college campus placement and joined the organisation soon after.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee structure is quite normal. The fees include lab fees as well, and given that most of the lab equipment is expensive, this is understandable. Fees were not hiked unnecessarily. The college offers several scholarships to deserving students.

Campus Life

4.5

The annual college festival is an absolutely fun event with colleges from all over the country participating. Talent shows are regularly held. The library is a bibliophile's dream come true and has all kinds of reference books available for your research. Classrooms are adequately equipped. Sports and extra curricular activities are given high importance.

From the last previous semester, students can avail themselves of campus interviews. Students who have Harriers are not given opportunities because it's in the companies criteria. Cognizant, Zoho, Infosys, Wipro. Every year at least 10 students get selected. Average is 10,000-15,000 per month 10-15% of students getting placed. I plan to study for competitive exams like UPSC.
