Reality inside Vellalar College

This college is situated in a very accessible area in erode. It is famous for its discipline and safety of the students. This college is considered one of the best women's college in Erode with quality education. There is no ragging inside the campus and the college offers numerous programs inside the campus for students.

I have chosen B.A., English literature which is the department with maximum faculties. The faculties are well qualified but they spend a lot of time on official work rather than teaching. Most of the time the classrooms remain unattended and no new teaching methods were used. Teachers stick to traditional methods and no serious measures were taken to improve the spoken English of students. The online classes were also not organised and most of the syllabus remains unattended. The exams were conducted strictly and questions are always unexpected and new.

Placement is provided for final UG and PG students and most of the companies are IT and small insurance companies and people from all department are placed. Most of them are for small jobs with a salary from 5000 - 15000. No proper training is provided for students. The real success rate of placement is questionable, but for simple jobs, you can opt it.

The fee structure is quite affordable for both aided and self-financing. For aid, you have to pay only in the Odd semester and that will be up to 3000 INR. For S.F it will be 16000 per semester.For aided students, there is a lot of opportunity for winning more than 1 scholarship. You can do part-time jobs in the library, printing press or typewriting institute for financial aid. At the end of your final year, you can get jobs in campus interview which is mostly IT jobs irrespective of your department.

The college is neatly maintained and has proper spacing. The Vellalar College conducts various functions throughout the year to bring out the talents of students. The library facility of this college is its best aspect where you can get access to a lot of books and magazines which are best maintained. A digital library facility is also provided. All the classrooms are well maintained with proper lighting and ventilation but smart class facilities are available for only a few classes so most of the time we have to share them. Sports facilities are not that good. Very limited resources and coaching is available. It is very difficult to attend the intercollegiate competition for hostel students and most of the outdoor competitions are not allowed for students. Learning outside campus or online learning is not supported as this college is a TRADITIONAL one. To attend an online competition you have to go through a tedious process.

The hostel is neatly maintained and cleaned. Room allotment for students is 1:4 for 1st year and 1:6 for 2nd and 3rd-year students. Bathrooms are cleaned regularly but are in a 1:10 ratio for 2nd and 3rd-year students and some are at repair. Mobile phones, not allowed. No proper internet facility is provided to do assignments and projects. Laptops are only for final years and with a time limit so no external learning. You cannot participate in intercollegiate competitions. Strict dress code inside the hostel. Food is tolerable but no non-veg. TV is provided at weekends.
