Remarks

The college management was very cooperative for the students of all the years. They maintained very nicely all the students of different years of their course. They look upon every aspect which will be helpful for the students whether it is the commutation from Cuttack or for education tour/adventure trip.

Entrance Preview

Silicon Institute of Technology (SIT) Bhubaneswar was one of the best and renowned college for the Btech in the Orissa state. It has a track record of the good placement, good studies as well as decent tuition fees. I have written Orissa-JEE for getting admission in SIT, BBSR College. My rank was 946 in Orissa-JEE. Through counselling, I got into AEI branch and after one year changed my branch to EEE. I was having interest in the hands-on experience on the hardware projects, so opted for the EEE branch to start doing projects related to my areas of interest.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course curriculum for the Btech was well balanced and divided into 4 years (8 semesters). First 2 years were mainly focused on the all the basic fundamentals of engineering such as Maths, Physics, Chemistry, all programming languages such as C, C++, RDBMS, DS. Apart from the above, other cross functional/interdisciplinary courses were also included to bring the thinking to a broader level. 3rd year was mainly focused on the expertise subjects on EEE branch related. The main courses are Power systems, machines, control system, power electronics. The 4rth year was divided into 2 semesters with project in each of them, namely minor and major project. The minor project used to be software based whereas the major project was hardware based. The overall learning from this 2 projects were life changing and mind boggling. At the end of each semester, there were final progress report presentation followed by the report submission before the panel of expertise members.

Internships Opportunities

During 2007-11 batch, there were internships available without stipend. Very few people got the institute stipend based upon the recommended else college provides necessary documents to apply for the internships outside with self-effort. I have done internship in a captive power plant, where I was there to learn and understand the process flow and its operation, safety guidelines in different cases at utmost priority. It gives an overall view of a captive power plant operation and maintenance.

Placement Experience

All the IT companies offer packages in the range of CTC 3.5 to 4.5 lacs INR. Core companies offer packages in the range of CTC 3.6 to 4.2 lacs INR.

College Events

4.5

There are many technical, cultural fests used to happen though out the year which keeps the students maintain study and fun time balanced. JANUARY - Sports Month, Heritage Tour, Antakshari ,Food Carnival, FEBRUARY- Mehndi Competition, C'Coding, Test your Memory, Sudoku, Silicon Idol, MARCH- Holy Celebration, Blood Donation, Camp, Literacy Fortnight, Prom Night, APRIL-MAY, Residents Exhibition, Residence Foundation, JULY-Sports month, AUGUST-Diwali celebration, SEPTEMBER-SPIC MACAY Silicon Chapter, October-New year Celebration.

Fee Structure And Facilities

I was a day scholar and the tuition fee was economical as compared to other college fees. It was around 58000 INR per annum. The examination registration fee and other expenses such as library fee, Xerox fees, and sports related expenses were separate. There was no such separate charge for the bus commutation.

Fees and Financial Aid

In the admission form, there used to be information about the loan to be provided for buying books, laptops and other expenses, but I have never availed it.

Campus Life

4

The campus of SIT, Bhubaneswar was full of lush green and well planned and maintained. There used to be a lot of plantation drive used to happen from time to time to maintain the greenness inside the campus. Hats off to the office staffs and the workers who took pain in maintain it. There is a lawn near to every building which makes it a litter free campus. The ration of boys to girls were 60:40 ration which keeps on changing from year after year. There used to be a good mixture of different culture as students from all every state of India used to come here and complete their studies .As mentioned above, there used to be a lot a of activities throughout the year , which keeps the young minds creative and evolving. The activities were on Indian level and students from different colleges of different region used to participate which is in increase the completion level to a new level.

Hostel Facilities

4

The hostel rooms were in good condition and well maintained from time to time. The food was good for all region people. There was lot of varieties of food to choose from and the timing was proper. The hygiene and the quantity provided at the rate was commendable from the college side. Students used to go in queue for lunch and breakfast. The hostel environment was good and it’s mixed of different culture, giving scope for everyone to evolve and progress in their career path. The hostel timings were strict both for boys and girls, hence at night time there used to be very less interference from outside people and disturbance within campus.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni/seniors were very helpful in transition from the school to the college to the job level .Seniors used to do frequent interactions with us so that we will have friendly and cooperative environment in the campus and should stand next to each other in case of any external threat. In hostels as well as for the regular day scholar, seniors guided us for the exams, lab viva voice and many other tasks which were completely new for us. There is a wide network of the alumni of the SIT Bhubaneswar which helped us a lot during our campus placement preparation as well as for joining the job on the first day.

Exam Structure

At the joining year, the exams were bit hectic since they were in the continuous one after another, leaving behind no break/ time for the preparation for the next exam. In our second year, BPUT has made a decision to provide at least 1 day gap between the exams to avoid the stress on the students during the exams. The IT labs were chilled ones as physical activities was bare minimum but at workshops and other labs were hectic at times because we need to perform the experiments on the spot at lab and nee to submit the lab folder completed on the same day. But the learning from this lab were awesome, which also taught us to manage the time well also.

Admission

SIT, Bhubaneswar College is listed in the counselling of the Orissa-JEE. So, I have written this state entrance exam to qualify for the college admission for B. Tech. The notification for the exam in the paper came around 6 months before the date of examination. The form for the Orissa-JEE was available on the selected banks at selected branches. The address of this bank and branches were available online as well on the newspaper advertisement. There was np facility for the online procurement of the forms. Once application form is filled correctly and submitted by post to the specified address within the last date/deadline of the form submission, within 4-5 months, admit cards were received with the address of the examination center with Date and timings. The result of the exam came within 2 months from the date of the examination. The counselling starts in 1 month from the result publication. The counselling process took place at a central location whose address were available in the newspaper ad. There was no option available to freeze your choices beforehand similar to present procedure of counselling. We need to have Orissa-JEE score card, POI, POA and a demand draft of 20,000 INR in order to book the seat at the counselling center provided seats were available as per the choice. Once seat is frozen, payment is done, registration number received, we visited concerned college to pay the remaining fee and complete the process of college admission.

Faculty

4.5

All the faculty were M tech qualified with few faculties having PhD degree, but the level of expertise of the subject matter was immense and compelling. All the faculties were constantly striving to improve the level of the knowledge of the students from the theoretical to hands on experience level. They were inspiring, motivating, helpful and at times strict to mitigate any sort of deviation from the main objective. I have learned a lot from one my mentor Prof. A K tripathy, who has guided me from time to time to prosper in my career. Any sort of initiatives taken by the students were always supported by the faulty members at every level to make it to the execution level.

the placement is also not that much great. they are very few companies TCS and Infosys are the mass recuriter here . The core companies are close to null . So you have to go to only to the IT companies that to at a very low package . My students work for as low as 2.5 lac per annum . This year almost everybody was between 3lac to 10lac bracket . The highest on campus package are about 25 lac . Not more than that most of time. and the average package is almost about 3-4 lac per annum . The percentage of the students placed is also really bad . Most of the students have to hurdle by himself.
