Scope of Marine Science

It is the only University in India which offers M.Sc Marine Science with specialization Coastal Zone Management which has great demand in the market. It covers all the Physical, Chemical, Biological and Geological aspects of the Ocean. After qualifying this degree students will have a lot of opportunities in various field. The department has 5 well experienced permanent faculty with 6 different well-established laboratories namely Marine Planktonology& Aquaculture lab, Marine Environmental Lab, Marine Pharmacology Lab, Fishery Science and DNA Barcoding Lab, Geological Oceanography lab and Pale-oceanography and Climate Science Lab. The department has equipped with a smart study classroom and separate M.Sc Practical lab. The main disadvantages of the department are it is situated on the main campus so no coastal environment is there. but they are developing coastal campus in Nagapattinam district. Very soon the department will be shifted.

Non-major elective Third Semester Paper: 1. Integrated Coastal zone Management 2. Deep-sea Exploration 3. Marine Geophysics 4. Aquaculture 5. Biological Oceanography & Fishery Science Practical 6. Non-major elective Fourth Semester Paper: 1. Last Semester Project 2. Viva

Most of the Student use to take an off-campus internship with a prestigious research organization like 1. National Institute of Oceanography, Goa 2. National Centre for Antarctic and Ocean Research, Goa 3. Centre for Marine Living resources and Ecology, Kochi 4. Central Marine Fisheries research of India 5. National Institute of Ocean Technology, Chennai 6. Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, Dehradun 7. Zoological Survey of India 8. Geological Survey of India 9. National Institute of Fisheries post-harvest technology and Training, Kochi. 10. Various IITs etc.

Department uses to arrange Every year campus interview. most of the students got a place in CP Aquaculture with 25 k salary/month.

Course fees: First semester: 15,825/- Second semester: 9,750/- Third semester: 11,685/- Last semester-9,750 Total- 47010/- For Sc/St or another reserved category students, the fees will be low as per Government instruction Every year CP Aqua feed Company use to come to take Aquaculture Technician or Marketing Specialist. Most of the students got placement.

As the department is situated on the main campus the students will have enough facilities like medical facilities, National library, Football ground, Basketball ground, cricket ground, Gymnasium etc. Apart from this lot of cultural program used to organize.

Department uses to arrange a personal interview session. Based on merit and Personal interview they select a student. Last year cut off was 67% marks for General.
