If you are interested in CSE but choosing Mathematics and Computing just for the sake of overlapping courses, then trust me you are making the wrong decision. I have seen many CSE branch seekers taking Mathematics and Computer to land CSE-related jobs. Let me tell you frankly, Mathematics and Computing are no substitutes for Computer Science.
If you want to get a deeper understanding of this, go through the Syllabus of Mathematics. You will find most courses that are theoretical, abstract, and purely mathematical and very few courses related to Computer Science. Mathematics at IITs is not everyone’s cup of tea. It is extremely tough, unlike JEE Math.
However, if you are passionate about Mathematics and want to pursue a research career in it, go for it. The courses might include lengthy proofs of Mathematical Induction and set and relation theory. Discuss the curriculum once with students of Mathematics at IIT and then make the final decision. Usually, the coursework in Mathematics and Computing is the same for all the IIT Branches.
To sum it up, if you are planning to take Mathematics and Computers just for the CSE courses, please make a better decision. My best advice would be to go for CSE in a better engineering college like IIT Hyderabad or Indore.
CMI offers a more Mathematics oriented program. For pure Mathematics, it is a better option.
CMI Maths framework and teaching methodology are more suited for students who are genuinely interested in Mathematics.
The key to clear Math papers at Anna University is studying the previous 5 years question papers thoroughly. Firstly determine which are the main topics covered repeatedly and start practicing them. Learn all the important formulas You can also refer to the internal tests paper in your college. If you compare the internal paper with the previous year's papers you will find certain topics are repeatedly asked. These topics demand the most focus.
Apart from this if you have any class notes try solving those questions. You can also refer to the previous year's questions mentioned in the math textbooks. Refer to local authors only as they will be more than enough.
Lastly, a practical subject like Math requires a lot of practice.
Both the Delhi Technological University DTU Department of Mathematics and Computing and NSIT Department of Instrumentation and Control Engineering are well-respected institutions with strong programs in their respective fields. Choosing one between the two will depend on your personal interests and career goals.
Ultimately, the final choice depends on your preferences.
Mathematics at SVNIT is not great. According to my sister studying there, the teaching way is not good.
The Mathematics Department is very disappointing. The lecturers do not teach well and they barely understand the material themselves. They are also quite lazy about their responsibilities towards their students.
The external exams at AKTU are more like CBSE exams as they don’t put much effort in changing the pattern of the paper. The purpose of university exams is to check your knowledge in a particular subject and not compete. So they don’t give out of syllabus questions.
You don’t have to refer to high-tech competitive books. The best books for these exams are:
Engineering Mathematics by N.P. Bali
Introduction to Engineering Mathematics by H.K. Das
Previous year papers
Quantum Publication
This study material is enough to get you well through the AKTU exams.
The teaching methodology for Math is a bit disappointing at NIT Hamirpur.
Mostly the faculty refers to Dr. Sunil’s notes for teaching, even though they can refer to any source. The problem arises when question papers contain the same example questions that are present in these notes. This promotes cramming. Students simply cram all the steps of example questions and rewrite them in their answer sheets.
This is an injustice to those who are genuinely interested in Mathematics. If you are one of them, you will learn only the concepts. With some effort, you will eventually solve the exam questions. However, you will also require a while to first understand each question. Eventually, you’ll solve a lesser number of questions than the person who crammed all the steps.
This system has a detrimental effect on a student’s interest in Mathematics. Cramming becomes the most effective route towards scoring top grades. This will leave you in a dilemma- either you can run behind marks, or the pure joy of mathematical problem-solving. The best way of reviving your interest is through free online courses.
Thus, Math teaching is not good at NIT Hamirpur. This practice needs to change.
My sister was a student in the Mathematics department at IIT Kanpur and her favorite professor was Professor Amit Mitra. He had many unique styles that made him the apple of everyone’s eye.
All these distinguish him from other professors and tutors of the department!
There are more than 300 STEM courses in USA available for international students. The most popular STEM subjects that can be studied in the USA are mentioned below along with the university specializing in the same:
STEM Courses | Top University |
---|---|
Aerospace Engineering or Aeronautical Engineering | California Institute of Technology |
Agricultural Engineering | Purdue University |
Biochemistry | University of California- Berkeley |
Biology | Harvard University |
Chemical Engineering | Massachusetts Institute of Technology |
Computer and Information Science | Carnegie Mellon University |
Among Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College (DDUC) or Sri Venkateswara College (SVC) it will be better if you go for SVC.
Here are some reasons:
Categories | DDUC | SVC |
Course Fee | INR 45,150 | INR 36,348 |
Average CTC | 4-6 LPA | 2.5-5 LPA |
Recruiting Companies | DE Shaw, Byju’s, etc. | KPMG, Deloitte, EY, etc. |
Therefore, it is suggested you go for SVC as it will provide you with better exposure and opportunities.
