SVCE runs on its own rules since it's autonomous, which means the college can make its own decisions. In terms of rules, it's pretty laid-back. You won't find any strict dress codes like banning casual shirts or rules against chatting with girls. In fact, it's one of the more relaxed colleges compared to others.

When it comes to skipping classes, there are faculty members keeping an eye on things, but it's still doable. Just remember, you can't leave the campus during class hours through the main gate. Some students opt for the "jumpot" method, which involves hopping over the fence to catch a bus to the city.

Also, keep an eye out for monkeys around the campus, as they're known to grab things from you. Overall, SVCE offers a lot of freedom, but it's smart to use that freedom wisely. Enjoy!

SVCE isn't too strict. But seriously, make sure you use this freedom wisely. Just because they won't inform your parents if you skip classes doesn't mean you should abuse it.

If you need to miss a class to visit the library or read something, get a permission letter from your faculty advisor or the professor for that specific class period.

Thanks for asking!

SVCE strikes a balance between being strict and laid-back. During my first semester, I often skipped classes to hang out with friends in the Open Auditorium. If I got caught by a teacher, a simple apology letter would usually fix it. Nobody, including random faculty or security, would question my presence or whether I had classes. However, at the end of that semester, a new principal brought in stricter rules. Now, hanging around in places like the OAT means security might take your ID card. This change happened because class attendance was low, which frustrated the teachers.

One professor mentioned that there was a time when guys could wear T-shirts to college. But since some students started showing up in casual sportswear for campus placements, the dress code became stricter.

Faculty attitudes can vary; some are really relaxed and open-minded, while others can be quite judgmental. There's no specific rule about hairstyles at SVCE, except during placements. I've seen male students with man-buns and long beards and female students with messy buns—most teachers don’t mind. But once, my faculty advisor criticized a girl in the hallway for her short hairstyle, which wasn't related to our department, saying it wasn’t decent.

Boys and girls can interact freely, but girls might face judgment from certain faculty members. SVCE is gradually becoming stricter. However, if you're academically strong, you can still sneak out without much trouble. Most teachers are great, although a few are not as pleasant. They also allow you to take leaves without calling your parents. Overall, compared to other engineering colleges in Chennai, SVCE is a better choice!
