I attended SVCE from 2018 to 2022. The main focus of this college seems to be taking money from students under various excuses. The food in the canteen is terrible, even worse than what you might expect in a jail, and it's not safe to eat (you might even find bugs in it). There's a noticeable influence of Brahmanism, as many of the professors are Brahmins.

On the bright side, the college does have good placement opportunities, with many companies coming for recruitment. However, if you have the necessary skills, you might want to consider off-campus placements instead. The college charges a hefty 40,000 rupees for on-campus placement training, which I feel is overpriced even if it was 4,000 rupees.

Overall, if you're looking to spend your money unwisely, SVCE could be a top choice for you.

When you first start at SVCE, you'll meet a diverse group of students, including those who aren’t too focused on grades and others from various cultural backgrounds, even from different states. You'll find a lot of free time because SVCE doesn’t pile on long assignments or weekly tests. You can use this time wisely for things like mini projects or publishing research papers.

I've seen students work on really innovative projects, even start their own businesses, which is pretty inspiring. You won’t find that typical nerdy vibe at SVCE; most students are laid-back but have solid plans for their future.

Regarding the management, we had three principals in just four years, which was interesting. They’re trying out new teaching methods, which might show results in the long run. Now, every classroom has projectors and speakers. Teachers are supposed to use these tools for 70% of their lessons, which is meant to keep students engaged. But honestly, many of us got pretty good at pretending to be awake. However, these teaching methods really helped when exams came around. Teachers shared their PPTs and PDFs, which were super helpful and aligned with the Anna University answer keys. Those notes were lifesavers for scoring well.

The labs are top-notch and well-kept. Senior staff members are really talented. I remember my head of department teaching the toughest engineering subjects effortlessly. I passed just by studying the notes without even buying a textbook. Of course, there are always a few tough professors in every department, but that’s normal everywhere. Some management rules can be annoying, like closing the OAT during class hours, odd canteen timings, and expensive food options. But SVCE students, including the girls, are known for their resilience.

As for placements, SVCE is one of the few colleges in Tamil Nadu where product-based, data-based, and hardware-based companies recruit. Even if some companies don’t visit every year, it’s not SVCE’s fault. Placements are something I can’t fault at SVCE. You’ll find three types of students here:

• those aiming for jobs right after college,
• those planning for higher studies abroad, and
• those joining their family business.

The placement officer, Mr. Muralitharan, is highly respected and ensures students get their offer letters before leaving college. I've seen people with a 7.0 GPA getting placed in high-paying companies, while others with a 9.0 GPA land jobs in companies like TCS. What matters is your knowledge, not just your marks.

For those looking into higher studies, SVCE is a great option. Recommendation letters from top professors here are highly valued, though they’re only given to deserving students. Lastly, SVCE has a strong alumni network, both in India and abroad, which is a great resource.

Here's a detailed review of Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering, located in Sriperumbudur. Just finished my first year there, and I’m pretty happy with the college's facilities and infrastructure. It's about 35 KM from Chennai, and you can take the college bus to get there every day.

Campus: The campus is about 95 acres, surrounded by lots of greenery. I heard from seniors that it looked even better before the 2015 Chennai floods. Each department has its own building, with large classrooms equipped with projectors.

Dress Code: The dress code at SVCE is more relaxed compared to most AU colleges. You can wear jeans, and nobody minds unless your clothes are too revealing.

Faculty Quality: Most departments have a good number of Ph.D. professors who are involved in advanced research. The Mathematics and Humanities departments have particularly knowledgeable and dedicated faculty.

Students: You can get into SVCE through merit (AU counseling) or by paying for a management quota seat. Merit students usually work hard and keep up good GPAs but often struggle with communication skills, which affects their placements. Management quota students tend to be street-smart and are active in college clubs. Of course, there are exceptions on both sides.

Hostel Life: I commute from home, so I don’t know much about the hostel. Friends say the mess food isn't great, and sometimes the water quality is poor. But they do have a lot of fun with the freedom to explore their interests.

Extra-Curricular Activities: This varies by department, but students are encouraged to attend symposiums and pursue their interests, with opportunities to earn OD’s for participation.

Placements: Many recommended SVCE for its decent placements. If you're in a circuit branch like CSE, IT, ECE, or EEE, and have good skills along with basic communication and aptitude, you can expect a package between 8 LPA and 12 LPA. Otherwise, mass recruiters will hire you. Core branches have a fair number of visiting companies. The Placement cell is quite active and starts training students from the first year.

Alumni Network: The college has a vast alumni network, including entrepreneurs, IAS officers, and professors at top universities worldwide. Many students go on to pursue M.S. or M.B.A. degrees abroad. You’ll likely find SVCE alumni at universities across the US and Australia. I've personally talked to seniors who've made it to Georgia Tech, Purdue University, and Arizona State University.
