CMC Ludhiana is definitely among the leading private medical colleges in the country. As a final-year MBBS student here, I'll break down my experience to help you understand better.
Teaching/Lectures: In my experience, the quality of lectures tends to dip as you move from first year to the final year, though there are exceptions. During my first year, I found every lecture to be engaging and educational, with teachers actively encouraging us to study and helping us with doubts during tutorials and discussions. Regular weekly and monthly tests were also a part of the routine, which kept me focused during the first two years. By the third year, when clinical subjects start, professors are often busy with their patients, so sometimes PG residents take over the classes. However, whenever professors do teach, it's always valuable. In the last two years, written tests become less frequent, and there is less personal attention, which in a way, helps us become more independent.
Teaching/Clinical Postings: We start clinical postings in the second year, initially focusing more on theory, which makes sense since we are just beginning. By the third year, things start to click, and professors are patient and eager to teach. With a large number of patients, we get to experience both outpatient and inpatient care across various departments. CMC graduates are known for their excellent clinical skills due to the strong focus on hands-on experience, especially in the final year.
Student-Teacher Relationship: The college has a unique student-teacher relationship, thanks to foster families that link us with faculty, as well as juniors and seniors. You can rely on your teachers for support during personal crises and guidance whenever needed. The open communication and approachable faculty were a pleasant surprise for me when I started.
Infrastructure: There's room for improvement here. While some hospital departments are well-equipped, the classrooms need upgrading. However, some new hostel rooms are quite nice. Recently, the institute subscribed to UpToDate and Clinical Key for all students, which have been incredibly valuable resources.
Extracurricular Activities: While not as extensive as some other colleges, we do have an annual musical, which MBBS students completely produce, from writing the script to composing the music. The administration is also very supportive, allowing us to attend conferences or participate in academic exchanges through groups like AMSA-India.
Research: One of the major benefits of CMC is the chance for undergraduates to engage in meaningful research projects, either through ICMR STS or independently. It's all about discovering your passion and finding a great mentor to guide you.
CMC Ludhiana is a fantastic choice for pursuing an MBBS, with a solid reputation both nationally and locally. While NIRF ranked it 18th, I personally believe it's among the top 5 medical colleges in the country due to its excellent teaching quality. The drop in its ranking is mainly due to minor factors like seat numbers, gender ratio, and PG pass rates. The faculty is impressive, always available, and they emphasize academics. Graduating from CMC Ludhiana boosts your job prospects, and having its name on your resume is a definite plus. So, I wouldn't recommend choosing another private or deemed college like KMC Manipal or KMC Mangalore over it.
CMC Ludhiana is a well-known institute with a 150-year history, offering great facilities and modern equipment. The teachers here are skilled and committed. It serves patients not just from Punjab but also from states like Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and nearby regions.
Students come from all over India, and it also has one of the top Dental and Nursing colleges.
