Shall I join an IIM (Kozhikode, and newer ones) as a fresher directly after B.tech or should I take a job that is paying 4.5 LPA and take another go at the CAT/XAT after 2 years for A, B, C,L, FMS & X

Your question has a lot of variables to consider. This answer is unbiased as it can be. You should take a job after B.Tech. if you don’t have a strong resume. MBA is a professional course and welcomes experienced students who are well versed in academic performance, extra-curricular, and leadership/management experience.

If you lack in these areas my suggestion would be to upgrade your CV with skills and experience and give CAT another shot.

Keep in mind that your salary does not matter. Your achievements, crisis management and leadership skills you acquire while at work are more important. So if you are eyeing a high-end consulting job, take another go at CAT after gaining some more experience.

Some people tend to lose the motivation to prepare for CAT over the years. They can join IIM Kozhikode even as freshers.

What is the eligibility criteria for the B.Tech course in Dibrugarh University?

PG
Parijat Ghosh Posted On : September 23rd, 2021
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering,Dibrugarh University Institute of Engineering and Technology (2017)

To be eligible for admission in the B.Tech course in Dibrugarh University, you have to score very good marks in your entrance examination to clear the cutoffs.

  • The cutoffs of Dibrugarh University are generally declared in the month of June and July through 'The Assam Tribune' and other local newspapers.
  • Dibrugarh University accepts students on the basis of both JEE and CEE scores.
  • If you are able to clear the cutoff marks, then you will be given a date to appear for the counselling process.
  • If you are looking for a seat in Institute of Engineering and Technology, Dibrugarh University then you should have a CEE score of more than 115 to be eligible for admission.
  • But this score again varies every year and depends on the result trends.
  • If you are looking for a seat in PE or ME, then the cutoff marks would be even higher as these two branches are in high demand and are more preferred in Assam.
  • The eligibility of all the branches (ME, PE, ECE & CSE) changes every year as it depends on the average scores of both JEE and CEE.
  • It also depends upon the number of students appearing for the examination.

Hence, to get admission in a B.Tech course in Dibrugarh University, you will have to appear for the entrance examination and clear the examination successfully, after which you will have to appear for the counselling process where the final decision regarding your admission will be made.

SV

studied Computer Science Engineering at Chandigarh University (2021)

HPTU has its own popularity from some of the colleges under its name. All the colleges are not up to the mark when certain things like Faculty, placement, infrastructure, or alumni are considered.

On the other hand, Chandigarh University (CU) holds a great reputation. It has great placement records in North India. So it is recommended that among the two opt for CU as it will prove to be beneficial to your career.

Should I go for the Integrated MTech course in IIEST or rather do the BTech in Jadavpur University or some NIT (say, DGP or Calicut) and then try and get a better college for my MTech?

AG
Anindita Ghose Posted On : October 26th, 2021
B.E. Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur (2017)

I have a few friends from IIEST. According to them, choosing IIEST can be good. For departments like Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Mining, the faculty base of IIEST is great. The civil engineering department at IIEST is one of the oldest in the country. Also, as per the new norm, you don’t have to complete a dual degree.

You can have an exit option after completing your 4-Year B.Tech. Which is definitely a good option. However, if you want to choose CS/IT, for placements, top or average NIT/JU will offer better placement opportunities.

So, consider all your options and choose according to your convenience.

Which college should I choose, PSIT Kanpur or IMS Ghaziabad for a B.Tech through CS?

PS
Pratiksha Singh Posted On : February 13th, 2023
Lived in New Delhi -110027 (2001–2016)

In my opinion, IMS Ghaziabad is a much better option than PSIT Kanpur mainly because of its NCR location. When choosing a college, a factor of utmost importance is where the college is situated because your location will impact your college life largely. Opting for a college situated in NCR is a boon as it will give you a lot of exposure to activities and education in general. You get more exposure to industries and startups and thus getting internships is a lot easier. One more advantage is that you can avail many good coaching facilities in the NCR location which may not be possible in a city like Kanpur.

The campus life is less strict at IMS Ghaziabad than at PSIT and there are no strict attendance rules. The fees and value of a degree are almost similar in both colleges but you can enjoy your life much better at NCR colleges. I am strongly against you joining PSIT Kanpur because

  • Not a good location
  • Unnecessary struck rules related to attendance
  • You have to be stuck 9-5 completing unnecessary assignments which have no real importance
  • Not a good college to enjoy life and hang out
  • No coding culture in PSIT

Despite it all, PSIT Kanpur has a 100% placement percentage and will help you get places in CS. Weigh your options and choose wisely.

How much scholarship does a student of dual degree from IIEST Shibpur get? Is there any merit based scholarship for the general category students?

AC
Arindam Chakraborty Posted On : March 30th, 2021
B.E. Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur (2019)

First of all, the scholarships are not generally given, considering the scholars of IIEST. This should be kept in mind always.

The amount of money in the scholarships and the payment mode may differ in different cases. It can be paid regularly until the completion of the degree, or as a one-time payment. But you must know that there are subjects and the criteria to get the scholarships, which should be maintained.

Many former students have pointed out that the Global Alumni Association of Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpur, frequently funds the stipend, in which this institute sometimes acts as a whole or sometimes as an individual. Still, everything depends on the criteria, which is not always the academic merit.

In the following some criteria are listed, which are normally maintained:

  • Academic Record
  • Some Co-curricular activities
  • Sports or Athletic records
  • Financial Background of the student (if you are from an economically poor background, then it is subjected to the lowest academic criteria)
  • Subject-based performances

However, more other criteria are not always listed but the college administration before the admission process.

Besides these institutional scholarships, there are also MHRD sponsored scholarships. These are well-documented, and you can get the details from the MHRD website; thereby, much explanation is not required in this regard.

You must check whether your parents/guardians are qualified to receive Income Tax reimbursement or the returns to support educational costs before applying for scholarships.

US
Ubaid Sabri Posted On : December 8th, 2022
Studied at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar ( NITJ )

Some books I’d highly recommend to first-year B.Tech. students at NIT Jalandhar are:

  • For basic electrical - Fundamentals of electric circuits, Kothari.

  • Millman or Boylestad or NN Bhargava (basic electronics

  • Amit Lal's videos on youtube are enough for Management principles

  • B.S. Grewal (Mathematics)

  • Let us C (Computer Programming).

  • Manas Patnaik videos are enough for engineering graphics

  • You will receive a pdf from your professor for Manufacture process

  • general knowledge is enough, no need to study Environmental ethics

  • Schwam series and data structures with C for Data Structures.

These books along with self-study and class notes will be more than enough for a B.Tech. student in the first year.

Which is actually better: B.Tech VIT Chennai + BM at XLRI or B.Tech NIT Nagpur + BAA offer at ZS Associates?

YG
Yashmeet Grover Posted On : November 10th, 2020

Under the B.tech category in India of NIRF 2020, VIT Chennai is placed at 13th position whereas NIT Nagpur is spotted at number 27. VIT is popular for its B.tech CSE course unlike (V)NIT Nagpur which offers ECE as its flagship course.

BM at XLRI is one of the most demanded programs as the Institute is ranked 9th best business schools in India by NIRF 2020.

Admission

VIT Chennai:

  • VIT offers VITEEE for admission in the B.tech program.

  • Aspirants must have AIR below 5,000 in order to make it to VIT Chennai in the first round.

  • VIT offers 273 seats per branch of B.tech.

  • The annual tuition fee at VIT Chennai is 1.73 lakhs for B.tech courses.

NIT Nagpur:

  • Students must clear JEE mains in order to get admitted to NIT Nagpur.

  • Opening and closing rank for CSE, ECE, and ME are 2116-5361, 6151-8378, and 8296- 13454 respectively.

  • NIT Nagpur offers 946 seats in total across all branches.

  • The annual tuition fee for the B.tech course at NIT Nagpur is 1.3 lakhs.

XLRI:

  • XLRI conducts the Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) followed by PI for selection.

  • 95% is the cutoff for male candidates to join the BM program whereas 93% in the case of females for the same.

  • XLRI offers a two year PGDM(BM) course at the course fee of 2.9 lakhs per annum.

Focusing back on your question, B.tech+BM will consume your six years which you have to completely dedicate to your studies. Eventually, it will turn fruitful as you will end up in a high profile job post your PGDM(BM) from XLRI. XLRI even offers 100% placement assurance and 26 LPA, average CTC.

On the other hand, B.tech from NIT Nagpur is also a good option. The BAA job profile at ZS associates will demand you to perform Excel-workbooks, PowerPoints, Data research, analysis, execution, etc depending upon the clients you work with. Having work experience is no harm where you can be financially independent 2 years prior to your option-1. You can further go back to study PGDM at any top Institutes.

The deciding factor here lies in your passion and inclination either towards HR/ management or the core Engineering field. Decide what is best for you.
