Which is better, taking EI in SGSITS or E&TC in IET-DAVV?

SM

Studied at Institute of Engineering and Technology, DAVV

Some of the facts are listed below to help you understand which one is better in taking admission.

  1. SGSITS has its brand name. No one even knows about the institute about IET-DAVV; generally, the students who are staying outside of Madhya Pradesh.
  2. There are not enough differences in the syllabus of these two institutes. And for this reason, you have to study yourself to perform better.
  3. If you want to pursue higher studies, then seats are limited in the good colleges for instrumentation. For this reason, the candidate number is also less. Thus, you have a preference to alter your stream for higher studies. One of my friends has told me that many people studied very hard and appeared in GATE although they have studied opted EI in B.Tech.
  4. If you are looking for placement, then DAVV is the best. This institute always has better placement statistics than the other one that is SGSITS. My friend also told me that in DAVV, most of the students from E&TC, despite EI, are preferred by the recruitment companies.

In the following, the placement statistics of these two institutes are highlighted.

Criteria

IET-DAVV

Highest CTC

Lowest CTC

11 LPA

12-14 LPA

Average CTC

If you have not so many ideas about the stream and do not aware of the institutional tag; then it is better to choose E&TC in DAVV. Besides, if you are considering these two institutes, then both are quite similar in terms of academics. However, E&TC also has many other fields in the future, so that the job opportunity might be expanded. Hence, it will be best to go for E&TC over EI.

BE, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Vishwakarma Institute of Information Technology, Pune (2018)

If you are planning to go for electronics and communication technology (EnTC) then opt for VIIT Pune.

It has a well-strategic academic curriculum for EnTC and the placement rate is also highly appreciable. The average salary is Rs 5.44 lakh. It has a beautiful campus, central library, conference room, and seminar hall which will win your heart. Whereas for PCCOE, Pune you'll find decent placement with a very average salary. You will find a wide variety of opportunities at VIIT.

The most unique feature that makes VIIT special is its best-known faculties in Pune, having tie-up with different colleges, government research institute, projects that will offer your better exposure and credible opportunities in your internship as well as in your job.

Being an autonomous institute now, you'll get a B.Tech degree instead of a BE degree, and it will get you a better project and help you enhance your resume profile.

Students at VIIT are offered a 6-month internship with a reputed company. On the other hand, in PCCOE, there is a rare opportunity for an internship. Students have only received a maximum of 2-week internship and learned nothing.

In terms of placements, VIIT is the best when compared to PCCOE. The table below shows the statistics for VIIT:

Academic year

Number of companies visited

Placement in a year

Average salary (LPA)

2017-18

2018-19

2019-20

Hence at VIIT Pune, you'll get open to new projects and internships during your course which will help you in building your skills and knowledge.

Choosing a particular college or a department actually depends on you, and how you want to shape your career ahead. Having known some people who study in both these institutions, I can say that they all have their fair share of strengths and weaknesses.

I might not be able to help you select one among them, because they are both good in their own ways. So, I will share some information about them which might help you make the choice.

  • ECE at IET Lucknow has one of the finest faculty. They also have a great student crowd.
  • HBTU also has highly experienced faculty members.
  • Placements at HBTU are also much better than IET Lucknow.
  • The enrolled candidates of the GATE exam are really great.
  • They also offer a vast alumni network unlike IET.

How good is ECE at NIT Trichy compared to NITT CSE?

KP
Kartik Pillai Posted On : August 31st, 2021
B.Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli

Both branchers are slightly different except for a few topics that overlap in the curriculum. Comparing it with one another is not worth it as both have their own differences.

Let’s take a quick comparison for clearing one’s view:

  • Efforts: CSE is much more on the lighter side than ECE.
  • Professors: Neither of the branches has good faculty members but ECE is probably better.
  • Students: CSE will have a lot of North Indians if you want to look it that way.
  • Placements: CSE has no comparison to other branches in terms of opportunities not only in jobs but even in internships. 70% batch gets internships after 3rd year in very good companies.
  • NIT-T Fest: This is one of the things which excites every student after placement statistics. It’s amazing out there.

It is suggested to select the field based on interest. Go for CSE only if you are inclined towards the field otherwise, both branches can give you ample opportunities to learn and grow.

You have to decide based on the field in which you are passionate. There is not much difference in the curriculum framework since both are IIITs.

  • In your first year, you will be studying the same core subjects be it IT or ECE branch.
  • In your second year, IIIT Guwahati offers a lot of research opportunities if you are into it.
  • You have a chance to opt for a project matching your field of interest out of numerous ones in the lot.
  • You will be allocated under a professor who will guide you out throughout the process.
  • Students at IIIT Guwahati have won numerous techno competitions not only in India but globally.
  • Few research papers from the institute have also got recognition globally.
  • Entire campus is facilitated with a high-speed internet connection.
  • College even encourages its students to actively participate in extracurricular activities.
  • There are various programming clubs which conduct seminars where top national and international guest lecturers are invited.

Is it good to take the ETC branch in VSSUT? How good are the placements in ETC in VSSUT?

MS
Muktesh Shukla Posted On : October 12th, 2023
VSSUT, Burla

Electronics, although a vast branch has limited scope in colleges like VSSUT. So, I would not recommend you to take ETC in VSSUT.

You will face many problems, especially in practicals. The lab equipment is outdated hindering the practicals. Most students copy from each other and rarely do students solve a practical question on their own. The professors are also underqualified so your only saviors here are the toppers or the geeks.

The grading is pathetic and some professors don’t give marks unless they know you personally. Students are required to wear formal and clean shaved faces for the next 4 years, unlike the students of other branches.

The lab records will be disapproved and you will have to write it again and again. The students of this branch get back in their exams frequently. The fault is in the faculty members and yet no action is taken against them.

Although I recommend you not to join this branch, you can consider talking to the seniors once before making the final decision.

What are the pros and cons of studying ECE in IIT Roorkee?

SM
Soumyadeep Mahapata Posted On : April 14th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee

A few pros and cons of being a student in the ECE department of IIT Roorkee are

Cons

  • The faculty has little interest in teaching and the pedagogy and evaluation methods adopted are obsolete.
  • The curriculum is old school and is irrelevant to the current industry demands.
  • Some labs are poorly maintained with no replacement of faulty equipment
  • You will lack employability because of no awareness of modern-day techniques, practices, and skills required by a good ECE Engineer.
  • Teaching is mostly theoretical with less practical explanation and implementation.
  • Students prefer noncore jobs and thus lose interest in the core ECE field
  • Apt of irrelevant courses need to cover just for credits

Pros

  • The department is located in the same building as that of CS and thus you will be sharing some courses and electives with CS students making you more employable.
  • You will have an edge over others because most software companies prefer ECE and CSE students over other branches.
  • The excellent reputation and alumni network will fetch you great research internships from abroad.

After weighing the pros and cons of both, make a decision that will help you shape a better career.

Should I choose mechanical at Thapar or ECE at BIET Jhansi?

EP
Ekta Pandey Posted On : April 21st, 2021
Studied at BIET Jhansi (2019)

The best advice and answer for your question would be to, “Follow your heart". This is not supposed to be cliché but the best choice that you can make would be the one where you believe your career is.

If you have a keen interest in machines, automobiles, and thermodynamics, then you must opt for Mechanical Engineering. If you hold an interest in circuit branches, then you should opt for Electrical Engineering. If you realise your niche and have an honest interest in your branch then your choice of college would not matter much as the Course curriculum for Engineering is almost the same for both colleges.

A lot of people believe that Mechanical Engineering is the toughest but you should do your research before opting for your branch. Choosing the right branch will also give you enough time to prepare for CAT while attending your college.

Thapar University can be the best option if you can afford the fee. You will be given better job opportunities once you complete the degree. BIET Jhansi is recognized in UP only and the placement opportunity is very less. A few of my friends from BIET Jhansi have often complained about lack of resources and a very competitive environment.
