Are New IIMs (Trichy, Udaipur, Ranchi, Rohtak, Raipur, Kashipur) good for MBA in Finance? If not suggest some B-schools. Really interested in investment banking.

BMS from Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies (Graduated 2022)

Honestly speaking, a career in investment banking should not be considered by the new IIMs. It’s a too ambitious profile to match the relatively new curriculum of these IIMs. Even if you are in a top B School, you will have to remain among the top students to get placed for a front-end role. One can still get roles in corporate & business finance but getting roles in Investment Banking is rather difficult.

Yet if you are not choosing an older IIM and want to choose a newer one, IIM Trichy is the best among them. The order is

IIM Trichy > IIM Udaipur > IIM Ranchi

There are many B Schools apart from IIMs that offer great Investment Banking roles. These include SPJIMR, JBIMS Mumbai, IIFT, and XLRI.

Which new IIM (Udaipur, Ranchi, Raipur, Rohtak, Trichy and Kashipur) has the potential to join the league of ABC in future? Why?

AS
Aditya Shekhar Posted On : January 6th, 2023
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Kashipur (Graduated 2020)

Comparing the new IIMs with the IIM ABC is rather ridiculous and not justified. Considering factors like infrastructure, faculty, and alumni base, the top IIMs are way ahead of the new ones. Even if the new IIMs tackle the infrastructure and faculty issue they can never match the extraordinarily strong alumni base of the older IIMs. The IIMs A, B, and C have given birth to many geniuses that have contributed largely to Indian society in various fields like arts, literature, sports, etc. They have even made impressions globally.

No matter how fast the new IIMs climb up the ladder and excel, they will never be able to match the alumni base and worth of older IIMs.

Can I leave the IPM programme from IIM Indore or IIM Rohtak after 3 years? If yes, what degree do I get and from which institution?

UN

Studied at IIM Indore (2019)

When you leave IIM Indore after three years, you will get a Bachelor of Arts degree in foundations in management.

IPM students definitely have the option of leaving the program after 3 years for any reason cited. Most quit to appear for CAT and to go to higher ranked B-schools in the country.

If you are planning to quit, you need to clear the basic passing requirements for IPM. This includes the social internship.

As far as IIM Rohtak is concerned, you will get a Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree from the college. If you are looking for more information, you can even check out the websites for both these colleges.

What should be the approach to crack the IIM Rohtak interview if you have workex?

SG

Well, IIM Rohtak is the newly established institution for pursuing MBA. The college offers MBA in Management Information System, Organizational Behavior, HRM, Marketing & Strategy, Finance & Accounting, Operation and Economics, Public Policy. It is given 21st rank by NIRF in 2020.

Now coming to your question, I would like to share one of my cousins’ experiences about this, who scored 95.92 percentile in CAT 2019.

  • He is 24 years old and he is an automobile engineer from Manipal Institute of Technology.
  • His grades have been 90+ so far with 92.71, 90, and 9.13 in 10th, 12th and engineering respectively.
  • He got a call from IIM Rohtak being his profile was good and also he was a gold medalist in Academics (5th SEM - Engineering).
  • Also, he interned in Amazon in Operations and Fulfillment and in Accenture as a mainframe developer.

He shared with me his experience of how the interview went on for 10 minutes and consisted of 2-4 questions on his Curricula, GK and academics.

  • The first question was an extempore on the topic “Women make better managers than men” and the time limit was 1 min for thinking and 2 mins for speaking.
  • There were more questions on the qualities of a manager, a couple of questions on my academics, and 2 questions on GK.
  • There were also questions on his gap year after work and also on his challenges as a manager he faced handling a team of 200-300 in Amazon.
  • He mentioned that it is good to assist your answer with brief examples if any and describing a specific situation that you handled clearly.
  • The panelists also checked his certificates and posed a few questions on them.

But, I would kindly suggest you keep your calm. Remember that confidence is key and always stay honest and humble. Start with a greeting and be polite. The first few minutes would be when the first impression will be set and you need to put your best foot forward. Good Luck.

At IIM Rohtak, it’s the students that are the driving forces of the campus. They are the ones who initiate clubs and committees. Some famous clubs and committees of IIM Rohtak are

Supply Chain and Operations Club: It recently conducted a webinar on Digital Supply Chain. It was delivered by Mr. Sandeep Chatterjee, CEO, of ISCEA India.

Analytics club: This club helps instill knowledge and skills related to programming. It also publishes a monthly magazine, “Analytica,” covering the latest news, quizzes, and articles related to analytics.

Human Resource Club: This club provides amazing experiences about HR work-life to students who are interested in this domain. For this, it conducts the HR of the year competition.

What is better for a PGP IM: MDI or IIM Rohtak?

VA
Vibha Arora Posted On : August 5th, 2021
Studied at Delhi University (2019)

Some of my friends studied in both these colleges. According to them, MDI Gurgaon is definitely better than IIM Rohtak. Let me give you some reasons to support their statement and why PGP IM will be a good choice.

  • ESCP Europe offered MBA degrees to MDI PGP IM students who started their global careers after graduation.
  • Most of the students at MDI receive internships.
  • About 60% of students got international internship offers and 40% got offers in India.
  • Some of the companies include Puma, Nestle, Phillips, Uber, Edelweiss, etc.
  • Studying at MDI is like an investment.
  • You invest for 2 years, securing yourself for the next 30-35 years.
  • MDIs brand name and alumni strength defeat IIM Rohtak anyday.

Thus it is suggested that you go for the MDIs PGP IM course as it will provide enough exposure in your chosen industry. Do not only rely on the IIM tag, check for better faculty, alumni and academics while considering a college.

How many aspirants would be applying for the IPM test of IIM Rohtak (approx)? How tough would it be to get into it?

RC
Riya Roy Chowdhury Posted On : July 31st, 2021
Studies at IIM Indore 2021

Back in 2018, 15500 students applied for the IPM exam but this has nothing to do with the difficulty level of the exam.

  • If you are slightly advanced on topics related to Maths, such as sequences and series, functions, coordinate geometry and trigonometry, logarithms, probability, P&C, etc, then you will have a major upside.
  • In 2019, Indore’s IPM exam was a reasonable mix of various topics with 1 to 2 questions each. This gave every student an equal chance to attempt questions they prepared for.
  • Every section has a section-wise cut off and a PI WAT call is usually provided in case you have cleared all three cut-off ranges.
  • In a nutshell, 15500 students competing against a limited 120 seats go up to make the entry to IPM programs quite difficult and on the challenging side.

It is suggested that you stay well updated with any information you acquire regarding IIM Rohtak. Hope this helps answer your query, wish you all the best!

How good is doing FPM in IIM-Rohtak? What are the the future prospects? Is there any scope to work for MNCs after doing this course?

AD
Anuja Dutta Posted On : April 26th, 2023
PGDM from Indian Institute of Management Rohtak

If you are considering pursuing a doctoral program at IIM Rohtak, it is important to have an understanding of the academic and administrative systems in place. While one individual may have had negative experiences, it is important to do your own research and weigh the pros and cons before making a decision.

Here are some points to consider:

  • The academic and administrative systems at IIM Rohtak are designed to benefit one person with political backing. Raising concerns can result in termination threats or other forms of harassment. While this is concerning, it is important to remember that this is one person's experience and may not reflect the experiences of all Ph.D. students at the institution.
  • It is important to thoroughly research the program you are interested in, including the curriculum, faculty, and support systems in place for students. Look up reviews and rankings, and reach out to current students or alumni to get their perspectives.
  • Keep in mind that pursuing a doctoral degree can be a challenging and demanding experience, regardless of the institution. It requires dedication, hard work, and the ability to work independently.
  • However, earning a Ph.D. from IIM Rohtak can open up a range of career opportunities. You can become a researcher or an academician. You may also be able to pursue careers in consulting, management, or other fields that value advanced research skills and knowledge.

Ultimately, the decision to pursue a Ph.D. at IIM Rohtak is a personal one that should be made based on your goals, interests, and research. Do your due diligence, weigh the pros and cons, and make an informed decision that feels right for you.

Which certification course is the best for project management, IIM Rohtak or Six Sigma Green Belt from Indian Statistical Institute?

SR
Swanand Ranade Posted On : January 10th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Indore

Both the certification courses PMP and SSGB fall under the Operations domain yet are very different in reality.

PMP: This course facilitates handling and delivering projects efficiently and quickly. If you are interested in Project Management, the best option is the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification which is affiliated with Project Management Institute, PMI, USA. It

also provides PDUs.

SSBM: This course facilitates proper optimization of business processes, minimizing waste and time wastage. If you are interested in the Six Sigma Green Belt (SSGB), then Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) Kolkata is the best option available. Some even think ISI Pune is good yet I will recommend you to go for Kolkata itself.

How do companies perceive these IIM Rohtak EPGPX courses like?

AA
Ananya Agrawal Posted On : January 18th, 2023
Former Executive Education Expert

Even though all IIMs have converted their PGP and EPGP programs into MBA degrees, IIM Rohtak continues to offer Post Graduate Diplomas. Companies do not regard this program as an MBA qualification. It is regarded as a Diploma course from IIM Rohtak, a step down from the two-year EPGP or PGP. Candidates who complete this course are not eligible to pursue a Ph.D., FPM (or even EFPM) from any IIM (including IIM Rohtak).

Fees for a one-year online program are also extremely high. All IIM MBA programs are now GST-free, but IIM Rohtak continues to charge fees that are "inclusive of taxes" even though there aren't any (if the course is truly an EPGP/PGP). Businesses would place a higher value on two-year PGP or EPGP programs, like the one offered by IIM Kozhikode.
