What is the credit system of IGNOU? How do I select a subject?

NS
Neeraj Sethi Posted On : October 18th, 2022
M.A in Public Administration, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

If you apply for a BSc (Maths), for example, it means you want to study math.

  • You must choose two elective subjects from the four available ( Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and Life Science).

  • To major in math, you must complete at least 40 credits in math.

  • If you want to major in math, you must take MTE 1, 2, and 4-9. These subjects will earn you 28 points. MTE 10 to 14 can be used to obtain the remaining 12 credits (for a minimum of 40 credits) to 20 credits (for a maximum of 48 credits in a subject).

  • The three-year course requires 96 credits, with 32 credits required each year.

  • Your foundation courses will total 16 credits in your first year. And you'll need 32 credits in a year. To meet that requirement, you can take MTE 1,2,4,5,6, or you can drop one paper and replace it with a second elective subject of your choice.

  • You have 8 credits for foundation courses in the second year. The remaining 32 credits must be satisfied by Math papers and the second elective.

Electives and application-oriented courses are available in the third year (AOC). AOC requires 16 or 8 credits in this case. This is because elective courses can take either 56 or 64 credits over the course of the semester. As previously stated, if you aim for a minimum of 40 credits, you only need 56 credits from electives and can have 16 credits from AOC. Alternatively, a maximum of 48 elective credits will leave you with 8 credits for AOC.

There are some subjects that must be taken together, such as MTE 4 and MTE 5. Subjects from the first year can be taken in the second or third year, but not in the first year. There are courses that have prerequisites and corequisites. Please make sure you take those so that you can study easily.

Applying online eliminates the possibility of accidentally taking the same subject twice. You also don't have to be concerned about credit fulfillment or subjects that must be taken concurrently.

In IGNOU what if I fail to re register before the last day of registration?

DS
Deborah Sam Posted On : October 20th, 2022
MCA from IGNOU

Re-register before the registration deadline. If you are unable to do so, you will be unable to participate in the next semester for which you have registered. It will also give you a 6-month delay and allow you to register only on your next attempt, which is not a good idea. So be mindful of your re-registration and exam forms.

However, if you fail to re-register, don't be too concerned. Simply try to cover all previous exams and back from the previous semester and prepare for it. Learn some useful skills related to your course as well. Don't squander these six or twelve months; instead, get to work.

Which publications reference books are best for the IGNOU BA programme, GPH Straight Forward or Neeraj?

NS

M.A. in History, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

It is strongly advised that you only purchase Neeraj Publication books and not the GPH. If you want to pass the exam, GPH is sufficient. However, if you want to learn something and get good grades, you should definitely buy Neeraj Publication books. Neeraj Publication books are a mix of direct questions answered and concepts covered briefly. This is a better introduction to the subject than the GPH.

Neither Neeraj publication books nor GPH can replace the IGNOU study material. Studying these IGNOU books will not only increase your knowledge but will also boost your confidence. You need to determine your reason for studying first and then study the book accordingly.

How do I pass the IGNOU BCA exam?

RK
Rahul Kumar Posted On : October 19th, 2022
Masters Degree holder from IGNOU MA in Public Administration

One of my friends was pursuing BCA from IGNOU. He shared that initially he did not take the course seriously. He believed that distance learning is extremely easy and does not require effort. But as per his experience, this course is no joke despite being distance learning. BCA is a technical or IT field. You can't just write anything and attain marks like many other subjects.

He further shared a few tips that might help you pass the IGNOU BCA exam:

  • You will have to start working hard right from your first year. Set your goal as 80-90%. Only then will you get around 50-60%.

  • Try to pass each and every subject in your first attempt.

  • Don't leave any questions unanswered in your exams.

  • Read study materials provided by IGNOU.

  • Solve the past 5-6 years' question papers thoroughly. This will be a big help.

If you follow the tips sincerely, you will get good marks in your BCA exams.

I have lost my IGNOU student ID card. Is there a way to acquire another copy?

You should not be concerned if you misplaced your ID card. You are not even required to visit the Regional Center for this. The following are the steps you must take:

  • Install the IGNOU Student App app.

  • Log in using your enrollment number, program, and date of birth.

  • When you click on ID Card, you will see a popup that says, “Use your enrollment number as password” to open the ID Card. To download it, click OK.

  • The document will be downloaded to your phone; simply print it from a cyber cafe near your home.

  • You do not need to put a stamp or a signature on it. There is already a signature and a stamp on it. It is authentic and valid.

An IGNOU ID card is required to take TEE and practical exams. If you lose your ID card, you must follow these steps to receive a replacement.

Which university is better for a correspondence graduation IGNOU or SOL DU?

PG
Poojita Gupta Posted On : August 22nd, 2022
B.com from University of Delhi

IGNOU is better for correspondence graduation. It has more courses available for correspondence graduation, compared to SOL DU. IGNOU has regional centers and examination centers all across the country. For SOL DU, you will have to visit Delhi, for examinations. In terms of coordination, availability of courses, and quality of education, IGNOU is the obvious choice for correspondence graduation.

How do students get study material from IGNOU?

PB
Priya Bhardwaj Posted On : October 18th, 2022
M.Com, in Postgraduate Diploma in International Business Operations (PGDIBO) & UGC NET, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

After completing your registration, you must provide your email address and phone number. You will receive a confirmation email regarding your application, indicating that it has been acknowledged.

After a month or two, you will receive a text message or email with instructions on how to retrieve your study materials. It is important to remember that the Study Center and the location where you collect your study materials (Regional Center) are not the same.

You can also send an email requesting that it be sent to your address, which you will receive approximately 2 months later. However, you must visit the Regional Center at least once to obtain your enrollment card and have it stamped.

Keep in touch with the institution via email until you receive what you require. I would not recommend making phone calls because it is always busy and difficult to get through.

Why is a degree from the IGNOU discriminated?

AJ
Ann Shabu John Posted On : October 20th, 2022
Masters in Political Science and International Relations & Comparative Politics, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

Many people believe that MCA is too difficult and not worth the effort. You don't have to listen to someone else's hopelessness or anything negative people say if you haven't experienced it. Simply be on time and schedule everything accordingly, and everything will fall into place. You simply must be committed and serious about what you are doing.

Not only at IGNOU, but in any university, not every student is treated equally. Every student is unique, with their own study habits and learning abilities. Never give up and keep trying until you succeed. Instead of listening to rumors, do what you believe is best for you and your future.

Is there anyone working in IT after doing BCA MCA from IGNOU?

KL
Karishma Luthra Posted On : October 21st, 2022
M.C.A. in Computers, Master of Science in Computer Science

Many people work in top MNCs after completing BCA/MCA from IGNOU and are earning competitive salaries with other professionals who have completed B.Tech/MBA from traditional colleges. Getting a good job and a good package is dependent on how skilled you are and how well you can justify your competency in an interview. Even though many companies do not hire people with degrees from IGNOU or other distance-learning universities, there are many who do, based on their ability.

The conclusion is that pursuing a degree course through IGNOU should not be your first choice if you are capable of obtaining an education from a good college.

People pursue their education through IGNOU due to personal reasons that prevent them from enrolling in a top engineering college. IGNOU's mission is to make education accessible to all, and for those who, for whatever reason, are unable to travel to study, IGNOU provides quality education in their home city.
