How much marks did you score in IIM Indore's IPMAT (to IPM STUDENTS)?

SB
Soumika Bose Posted On : August 25th, 2021
Studied at the Indian Institute of Management Indore (2019)

One of my friends graduated from IIM Indore and here’s what I got to know from him.

  • The students were only shown their composite scores in the exam from the 2015 IPMAT.
  • The exact marks in the exam are not provided.
  • My friend had gotten a score of 64.3 with the highest reaching 85 and the cutoff for the interview being 42.
  • The formula for the computation of the composite score is 60 (Candidate's Quant score – Minimum score) / (Maximum score - Minimum score) + 40 in Candidates Verbal Score – Min score/ Maximum score – Minimum score).
  • From my friend’s guesses, she had attempted around 80 questions with an accuracy of around 85 to 90%.
  • So my friend’s marks in the exam must have been between 260-280 (following the +4, -1 marking scheme).

So you can assume that a score of 64 translates to around 270. But do keep in mind that the cut offs of the aptitude test changes every year.

What are the drawbacks of doing IPM in IIM Indore?

AM
Apoorva Mukharjee Posted On : April 4th, 2022
studied at Integrated Programme in Management, IIM Indore (2021)

Here are some drawbacks of the IIM Indore IPM program.

  • The duration of the course is five years. It is a long-term commitment. You can’t exit the program after three years. Choose this program, only if you want to do an MBA.
  • The course is expensive. IIM Indore IPM fees are around INR 4 lakhs.
  • If you want to specialize in a particular subject during your UG, then this is not the right course for you. The first three years of this course are general for every student.

The coursework of IPM is hectic. It won’t leave you with much free time to pursue any interest or hobby.

Is an IIM Indore 5 year program worth it? What salary could one expect? Is it equivalent to doing the IIM MBA after the UG?

It is not equivalent to an IIM MBA because the candidates do not pass the CAT exam. As a result, the industry has not yet accepted the 5-year program.

In the five years that an IPM student spends at the institute, he or she is exposed to a plethora of excellent opportunities. Apart from institutionalized opportunities like social placements (after the third year), foreign exchange (9th term), and summer placements (4th year), there is a lot that happens as a part of the Students Activity Council. There are regular competitions for IPM students that not only award cash prizes but also provide excellent opportunities to interact with new people, make contacts, and learn new things.

IIM Indore IPM is a good course. The curriculum is diversified. Other than the course subjects you can learn programming languages, different foreign languages, performing arts, etc. The course work is rigorous and keeps students on their toes. Students have the freedom to explore different co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. After initial three years of the course, IPM batch is combined with the upcoming PGP branch. All lectures and placements take place collectively.

IIM Indore placements for IPM have been good for the last few years. During the recent placement drive, IPM students received an average CTC of INR 20.79 LPA. The highest CTC (international) offered was INR 82.25 LPA.

I can't afford the fees of IIM Indore IPM. Should I stop dreaming about it?

You must not give up your dream of joining IPM at IIM Indore just because of financial constraints.

IIM Indore provides financial assistance to students who need it. The Need Based Financial Assistance (NBFA) at IIM Indore makes sure that no student is deprived of education at the prestigious college simply because of lack of finances. Every IPM student with a family income below 9LPA is eligible to apply for financial aid.

The NBFA committee decides the number of awardees and the amount of aid. A certain amount is provided for eligible students by the committee, which differs from year to year. The family income and assets of the student are considered before deciding the aid amount. The disciplinary records of a student are also looked into before offering aid. Other than that, banks also offer education loans to students of IIM Indore.

Do not give up on your aim, and work hard to secure a seat into IPM at IIM Indore.

I can’t afford the fees of IIM Indore IPM. Should I stop dreaming about it?

Coming from a financially challenging background, it is highly unlikely that you are interested in management purely out of interest. Now, you can think about IPM if you want to study management. Banks will grant loans to you without requiring much in the way of security. Additionally, since those loans will be your responsibility, your parents won't be responsible if you later become unable to make your payments due to unforeseeable circumstances.

Now for the next thing. Since you haven't specified your level of knowledge and skills, If you are currently brilliant, my recommendation is that you enroll in any graduate program that you like or would be your second choice. Look into B.Com and BBA as they can be sensible options, and if your interest still holds after earning your bachelor's degree, try to get into FPM or IIM Indore.

IPM isn't simple to get into, and if you stop and think about it, you can get along just fine without it too.

TLDR: Of the top 20 or 30 B-schools, IPM has one of the lowest ROIs. An MBA will cost you INR 14 while giving you a better understanding if you want to pursue management. Your entire course fee may be around INR 30 lakhs.

Would you chose Ashoka University or IIM Indore's IPM programme?

JA
Jeena Agarwal Posted On : January 24th, 2023
Bachelor of Arts from Indian Institute of Management Indore (Graduated 2021)

You don't have much of a problem if your interests are in the sciences or literature and you don't have a preference for business or management. Clearly, Ashoka is the superior choice. In a similar vein, IIMI is the better choice if business/management or their related fields are of interest to you. Although neither is firmly established, Ashoka offers a more liberal arts university environment while IIMI offers a more business school environment due to the inherent structures of the programs and institutes. Because it is a liberal arts course, the IPM course is fairly nuanced. The Ashoka courses are no exception, particularly those in economics and finance.

IPM's undergraduate program has no concept of "major" or specialization, just like the MBAs at IIMs. Math, statistics, economics, social sciences, and communication are all required subjects. In the end, Ashoka is a liberal arts college and IIMI is a business school. Even the most widely studied subject, economics, will be taught and learned very differently in each location. Again, you'll have to decide which you like best.

It's conceivable that Ashoka has the resources to send you to Ph.D. programs. Given the substantial alumni presence in business, IPM might be better able to place you in professional settings. Having said that, they are not mutually exclusive; you can pursue a Ph.D. after IIMI or an MBA after Ashoka.

I got a waitlisted rank of 47 for IPM IIM Indore. Do I have a chance?

PR
Pubali Roy Posted On : August 20th, 2021
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Rohtak (2019)

Last year one of my friends got selected for IPM in IIM Indore and he was selected with a waitlist rank of 41. While most of his batchmates also got around the same rank. So, there is a good chance that you will get admission too.

  • 47 is not a bad rank at all for IPM Indore as my friend and some of his batchmates also got a waitlist rank of around 40.
  • In recent years, the IPM course has gained immense popularity, thus you can’t have a 100% guarantee of getting selected.

At last, you have fairly high chances but still, it isn’t sure because of the booming inflow of candidates.

I have brought Pearson 's Crack IIM Indore IPM entrance exam. Will this be sufficient or should I buy 1st edition as well? Any other book suggestions?

Sampriti Ghose Posted On : August 20th, 2021
IPM from Indian Institute of Management Indore (2020)

According to one of my friends, who is an alumnus of IIM Indore, books like Pearson’s are not sufficiently good for preparation. Most of them are outdated and follow the old syllabus and the question type that was asked previously during the exams. If you want to crack the entrance exams for IPM, then you need to be consistent while preparing for the exam and thorough with all the concepts.

You can refer to the basic NCERT books along with Wren and Martin's latest edition for the same. These books can help you immensely to improve your vocabulary.

Be consistent with your preparation, and you should be through.
