How good is XLRI Jamshedpur? How it fares against IIM ABC? Please answer, you view is valuable.

SM
Soham Mukherjee Posted On : April 18th, 2023
XLRI, Jamshedpur (2019)

With its HR program allegedly being the best in Asia, XLRI might be ranked as one of the top 6 management schools in India. Other areas of expertise like marketing and finance are also strong.

One of XLRI's major advantages, in addition to having a large alumni base, is that all of the HR directors at the country's top corporations are XLRI graduates. As a result, XLRI receives a fantastic placement. As most employers view it on par with IIM A, B, and C, this also helps if you wish to change jobs. It will be regarded as one notch lower when compared to IIM A, B, and C. Top IB and PE firms that exclusively visit IIM A, B, and C do not go to XLRI. But XLRI is a fantastic alternative if you are not interested in IB or PE.

Many reputable companies (in the financial and consulting industries) exclusively visit IIM A or B; XLRI is not among them. But even with fewer options, XL can help you get into the best companies. The batch size is one factor. The XL BM batch size (until the 2021 batch) was just 180, as opposed to IIM A, B, and C, which had twice as many.

My idea has been selected for Mentoring and then incubation at IIM Bangalore. How should I go about presenting it to them so that they agree for incubating it?

One of my friends' startups was incubated by NSRCEL, IIM Bangalore. She narrated her struggles in achieving this after 3 attempts. I won’t go through the details of how you can get your idea incubated as your idea has already been. Instead, I will tell you what comes after.

Once your idea has been incubated, you will be enrolled in a 3-month LaunchPad program. During this program you will have to work from the IIM Bangalore campus itself. The team of NSRCEL will

  • Conduct workshops to familiarize you with startups and how they function.
  • The NSRCEL team will set attainable targets and help you achieve them.
  • You will be allowed interactions with experienced mentors who will offer suggestions and opinions regarding your idea. Use this opportunity to learn and upgrade the idea and not as criticism.
  • The team will also provide you with some time and money-saving business tools like AWS credits, Access to CRM, and accounting software.

My friend said she regretted not paying during this program because she was not well prepared for what came after. You will have to present your idea in front of a panel of 8 judges. They will analyze if your idea is worth investing in and your goals. They will inquire a lot and pose difficult questions, the answers to which can be known only if you really paid attention to the program.

The 3 possible outcomes of this procedure are

  1. Your idea gets incubated
  2. You are granted an extension of 2-3 months to work on your idea a bit more
  3. You are asked to re-apply for the Launchpad program as you need to understand your business better.

Irrespective of the outcome don’t get demotivated. Because the largest of empires have been built after countless failures.

How is campus life of students at IIM Bangalore?

DJ
Devansh Jha Posted On : May 15th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Bangalore

IIM Bangalore is known for having one of the most beautiful college campuses in India. Few of the splendid amenities are single-room accommodations, almost 24-hour eating points, best sports facilities in any of the IIMs.
The average duration of lecture hours per day in the first year is 6 hours which reduces in the consecutive years depending upon the electives chosen in each term.
Students of IIM Bangalore have a 5-day working week, with quizzes and exams scheduled on weekends as well. Rarely, extra classes are scheduled on weekends in case of mid-week offs. There are more than 25 clubs promoting academics and extracurriculars. There is one club for each specialization in addition to music, dramatics, and sports clubs. These clubs are good for socializing as well as taking a break from academics. There are excellent sports facilities, both indoor and outdoor, like badminton, basketball, volleyball, football, cricket, tennis, pool table, etc. to mention a few.
IIT Bangalore has excellent accommodation facilities that promote harmony between juniors and seniors. Students of the same batch usually are made to stay within the same blocks.

What was the waitlist movement at IIM Bangalore last year?

NG
Nabamita Ghosh Posted On : July 30th, 2021
Studied at University of Mumbai (2019)

Being in the waiting is enough to add on a lot of stress in the student's mind who has applied for the institute. The reason I am responding to your query is that it needs to be addressed among the masses.

  • A friend of mine was on this waitlist. Throughout the entire time, he was always under constant pressure.
  • Generally, this waitlist frenzy is exclusive to the students that belong to the General category and their result falls somewhere around 60-70.
  • There are also a good number of students who have switched to Calcutta as they believed that Finance was ultimately their calling.
  • This is precisely why people who are in the waitlist choose to settle in Bangalore.
  • The 2018-2020 batch was quite an exception in this matter.
  • Because of a rumored article, the waitlist for the batch 2018-2020 of IIM Bangalore went up to 16 for the General category students. Thus revealing certain dark sides of IIM Calcutta.

The waitlist for this year can be expected to reach 60 but no one can put an authenticity stamp on it as this has various layers to it. My personal advice to people who are on the waitlist is to prepare a backup option as well so that they do not have to be disappointed.

Should I choose IIMB over FMS Delhi?

RG
Rishikesh Gupta Posted On : December 30th, 2022
CAT 2018: 99.82%ile. Converted FMS Delhi and IIM Bangalore

Many people choose IIM Bangalore over FMS Delhi because of its brand image. Also without any doubt, IIM is at an altogether different level than other B Schools. Considering the IIFT rankings of this year IIM Bangalore ranked 1st whereas FMS ranked 4th.

But if you consider the ROI, FMS has an upper hand. Its incredibly lower fees in comparison to IIMs make it the best choice for people who are low on budget and don’t want to get involved with educational loans. It’s the best cost-effective MBA program in the country. The placements here are also at par with IIMs.

So choose IIMB over FMS only if

  • You can invest 20+ lakhs or are willing to take out a loan
  • If you are looking for a brand image more than just the essence of an MBA
  • You want to experience an impressive campus life

If these are your reasons for pursuing an MBA. IIM Bangalore is a better choice. Else go for FMS, nothing there will disappoint you.

Would it be wise to quit my job (that gives me 13 lakhs per annum) at Cisco if I get into IIM Bangalore, and take a loan of 18 lakhs for the fees?

AM
Abir Mondal Posted On : July 29th, 2021

It is quite obvious that if you are already doing a job that gives you 13 lakh per annum, it is your naivete if you want to join IIM and take a loan of 18 lakhs.

  • If you are more inclined towards the technicality of the things and working for the same, you should indulge yourself in gaining experience in that particular field.
  • Do not think of taking a huge burden of loan that you need to pay ultimately with heavy interests.
Categories IIM Bangalore
Course Fee 14 lakhs
Highest CTC 60 LPA
Average CTC 28-29 LPA
Recruiting Companies Mindtree, Asian Paints, Mercedes, HSBC, etc.

Think twice before making this decision and in my opinion, it is better to gain the hands-on experience that embarks you towards success in your life early, than spending a huge amount of money doing an MBA and then pursuing the job.

Why are IIM A, B, and C valued over FMS, Delhi when the difference between the fees are so high?

AB
Aditi Banerjee Posted On : July 5th, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

It is true that a person’s caliber can in no way be judged from the Business School that they have graduated from. In practice, however, things work very differently.

The general assumption is that if a candidate has secured a top rank in one of the most challenging exams and studied one of the top curriculums in the country, then they are really good in their field.

IIM A, B, and C have been around for a very long time and its graduates have carved a niche for themselves in the corporate world. Most companies in India and many abroad have IIM A, B, and C graduates in top positions. The alumni spread the goodwill of these institutions in silicon valley and other parts of the world, leading to international repute. These institutions are ‘brands’. An IIM A, B, and C brand opens numerous opportunities for you.

Judging IIMs based on ROI solely is not wise. Most IIM graduates end up paying their loans in a period of 3 to 5 years. Also, keep in mind that salary does not remain constant, it keeps increasing each year. Even if you take a loan to fund your MBA, it will be worth it.

If you get the opportunity to study at IIM A, B, or C you should grab it at the earliest.

Can I get IIM Bangalore with 77.4 in 12th and 56.6 in graduation?

KN
Kamal Nayan Posted On : December 30th, 2022
Studied at IIM Bangalore

If you are a General Engineer Male, even with a perfect CAT score, getting into IIM Bangalore is nearly impossible. Your 12th-grade point average is low. Your UG grades are even worse. If you are not an engineer, you may have a chance with a high CAT percentile, but there is no guarantee.

IIMB looks for consistent and high academic performance throughout the 10th, 12th, and UG years.

Over the years, IIMB has discovered that students who perform well in the academic program typically have a consistently good academic record throughout their school, high school, and graduation levels, in addition to demonstrating sufficiently high aptitude as measured by the CAT (Common Admission Test of the IIMs)/GMAT. As a result, IIMB evaluates candidates' suitability for the PGP program using a variety of criteria, including academic performance in school, high school, and graduation programs, as well as CAT/GMAT scores.

Is the IPM program provided in IIM Bangalore?

KR
Kanika Ridhlan Posted On : December 12th, 2022
B Tech in Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (Expected 2023)

No. At the moment, only IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak offer these courses, for which students must pass the IPMAT, which is administered separately by both IIMs. IIM Indore launched it in 2011, and IIM Rohtak launched it in 2019. However, due to its high potential and demand, all IIMs will soon launch this course.

There is a pre-doctoral program that generally takes about a year and allows students to study the core subjects in a doctoral program before deciding whether or not to pursue a Ph.D. and, if so, in what field.
