Got admits from IIMA PGPX, IIM Bangalore EPGP, and IIM Calcutta PGPEX. Which one should I go for (I'm really confused about the placements, no clarity whatsoever)?
My friend is a PGPEX alumnus and claims that the program helped him double the salary he receives from his regular MBA. The ‘X’ in the program often is a source of hesitation for many prospective students ao it’s better the programs get the hype they deserve.
As far as choosing between IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore is concerned, I would recommend you go for the latter. IIM Bangalore has a better placement scenario and also has common classes across the institute in elective terms giving you a wider peer network. IIM Ahmedabad on the other hand has a bit of a location disadvantage and the exposure offered is nothing compared to Bangalore.

What is the procedure to defer admission to IIM Ahmedabad?
Every student that gets selected to IIM Ahmedabad gets an option to defer their admission provided that the person must have full time work experience of less than 2 years.
This corporate experience gives a better understanding of the PGP program.
Some important points related to deferring admission are:

Defer can be for a maximum of 2 years and a minimum of 1 year

1 year deferment is not allowed for freshers. They need to defer for at least 2 years and gain experience.

A separate form needs to be filled for applying for deferment.

Fees include Security Deposit + deferment fee = 2 lacs. If you don’t join after the end of the deferment period, this amount will be forfeited.

Your progress will be monitored throughout.
To get your admission deferred, all you need to do is apply and send the form to IIM Ahmedabad. Such requests rarely go unaccepted.
What was the lowest CAT percentile for an aspirant who got admission in IIM-Ahmedabad?
As there is no official record, it's difficult to know the lowest percentile accepted for admission at IIM Ahmedabad. But I know students who got admission with a percentile as low as 63 from engineering backgrounds.
But note that for 2022 IIM Ahmedabad cutoff is expected to be around the 99 percentile.
How was your selection process at Guild Capital during IIM Ahmedabad placements?
My sister's friend reached out to the Guild Team for an internship in her 5th semester at IIM Ahmedabad. She wanted some experience in the field of venture capital. Luckily she got selected. Her boss suggested she get some experience in the consulting sector. She was in a dilemma when she received Guild's offer to join.
With no experience, she would be making a risky decision of opting out of the placement process. But she finally took the step and accepted Guild's offer. Today she has no regrets for the same and is well settled.
How did you feel when you got into IIM Ahmedabad?
A few years back, one of my friends applied to both IIMA and IIMB. He got an email from IIM Bangalore with the subject ‘IIMB PGP 2017 Offer of Admission’, one day while he was working. He didn’t expect an admission offer since his interview hasn’t been that good. He didn't check his IIMA result as he always felt, it was out of his reach.
Some of his friends suggested that he should at least check the IIMA website once, anyways. When he logged in his credential to the IIMA website he was speechless to find that he had gotten in. When the realization settled in, he was torn between IIMA and IIMB. But eventually, he choose IIM A.
How do I manage my fees for IIM Ahmedabad?
The campus of IIM Ahmedabad offers stalls from banks that are ready to help you in the entire loan process.
Start your loan application process early. As soon as you get selected your college will get you in touch with the bank officials. Every bank has different interest rates. Choose according to your budget. You just need to fill and submit the documents online and wait.
The banks will cater to all your expenses like fees and reimbursements. All you need to do is drop your mail to the bank's mail ID. You will get instant credit in your account.
When you finally get a job after graduation you have to repay the loan within 6 months or a year.
What are the best courses to take in IIM Ahmedabad?
The best course that I took during my MBA at IIM Ahmedabad, was not at my college.
It was the double degree that I pursued from ESCP Paris. There I had the pleasure of learning Marketing of Innovation under Professor Boris Durischin. The marketing concepts I learnt from him helped me land a well paying job. Sir made learning very pleasurable. He is one of the best teachers that I studied under.
The courses that I learnt at IIMA, and found useful, are-
- Trading Strategies and Managing Financial Institutions- These two courses refreshed my concepts in Finance. MFI prepared me for BFSI and mid office IB roles. These courses are scoring as well.
- Business & Intellectual Property and Legal Aspects of Business- These two courses under Prof. Anurag Agarwal, are a one time experience. Sir’s way of teaching is unmatched. He only teaches important and relevant topics. These two courses groomed me as a business professional.
These are the courses that I found useful as an MBA student at IIM Ahmedabad.
How do I get into IIM Ahmedabad with low academics?
Even with remarkable academic achievements, admission to IIM-Ahmedabad is notoriously difficult. Before even considering IIM-Ahmedabad, there are three criteria that must be met.

To begin, one must achieve a 70 percentile in all three sections and an 80 percentile overall.

Second, for a candidate with a science background, your average of your 10th and 12th grades should be equal to or higher than 80%. If you get a 100 percentile and your average of 10th and 12th grades is less than 80, IIM-Ahmedabad will reject you.

Finally, the percentage of marks in the bachelor's degree should be set at the 80th percentile of the percentage marks in the respective ACRC group.
If you meet all three criteria, you are eligible for admission to IIM-Ahmedabad and have low academic standing. Your 10th, 12th, graduation, and work experience points are added together and multiplied by 0.35. The remaining 65% is your CAT weightage, which is calculated by dividing your marks by the highest marks scored by a candidate in the CAT exam and then multiplying by 0.65.
Academic points can be made up if you perform exceptionally well on the exam. So, instead of worrying about your academic history, try to focus on getting a high percentile, which increases your chances of getting a call even if you have low academics.
How are IIM A students different from students of, say, SP Jain, NMIMS, FMS or JB?
The peer pool of IIM Ahmedabad varies from that of other B-schools like SP Jain, FMS, and NMIMS because of the admission criteria and quality of intake. The majority of the IIM Ahmedabad batch comprises performing students with CAT percentile almost touching 100 percentile. and most of them got close to the 100 percentile in CAT and they get opportunities to study business studies in IIM A, B, and C. Very few students get into IIMs through the process of diversification only if they scored more than 80 percent grade in Xth, XII th and Graduate Examinations. The other B schools like SP Jain, FMS, NMIMS, or JB don’t have such strict criteria and the peer pool comprises students from diverse academic profiles rather than just top CAT rankers.
This is the major point of difference between the two kinds of B Schools. As a result of this, IIM Ahmedabad students are offered better placement opportunities at the global level than these average B-schools.
