What should be my AIR in JEE Mains to get a B.Tech in IT at IIIT Allahabad?
It has been ranked among top 100 best engineering colleges in India by NIRF, 2020. So clearly getting into IIIT-A will be quite difficult. The latest statistics show that you must be ranked below 5K in IIT-JEE Main in order to get into B.Tech in IT if you fall under OBC category. IT at IIEST Shibpur can be good but you need to utilize the opportunities you get properly. The infrastructure at the institute is good. Microsoft also recruits students from campus placements. In the past students have bagged good internship opportunities. One of the students was accepted for Google California (Internship). Compared to the CSE, the IT branch is a little behind in terms of salary packages offered. However, this branch has good diversity.
Faculties for CSE and IT branches are comparable and the IT department even has better faculty members for a few of the subjects. The main difference between CSE and IT is that IT is a sandwich branch of CST and Electronics. So, naturally, you will need to study some Electronics subjects too. For Communication Systems, the IT branch does not have decent faculties. Adding to that, the subject is also not that useful for the future. Despite that this subject eats a chunk of the time of IT students.
Another difference is CST introduces important subjects like algorithms in the 2nd year itself. Whereas, IT introduces these topics one year later.
Basically, the essence is the same for the two branches, there are some minor differences in curriculum and lab work. How you do in placements depends on your hard work.
Which is a better option, IT IIEST Shibpur or CSE at IEM?

IEM isn’t a well-known college. It is a local college unlike IIEST, which is an institute of national importance. The campus size of IEM is very small. Big companies don’t usually visit small colleges like IEM.
The college tag has a value of its own. Besides, the opportunities and exposure offered by IIEST are immense.
Thus, I would recommend you opt for IT at IIEST Shibpur.

Is LNCT Bhopal good for IT?
If you do not have the option to join any government colleges and getting jobs is a concern, then LNCT is the place to be. With good grades, you may even get a job offer with a package of 3 to 4 LPA.
However, if you are hoping for a more comprehensive development of your personality, the answer is no. At the institute, you will have to write assignments, wear uniforms, maintain attendance, and participate in no extracurricular activities for four years.

Should I pursue IT at IIIT Allahabad, considering that I posses no experience in programming?
Coding is an important part of the IT culture at IIIT-A. But more than 75% of freshers have little to no experience in programming. The programming basics that one learns during the 10th-12th class are all taught in the first semester of the course. During the first year, students are taught the basics- Functions, Pointers, Linked Lists, Data Structures, Object Oriented Programming, etc.
It is your consistent efforts and undying spirit that will allow you to slowly learn and enhance your coding skills. IIIT-A has a wonderful coding culture that will draw you toward coding.
The programming courses during the first year use C. The language is extensive and does take a good amount of time to get a hold of. You may take a few online courses on C language to prepare for this journey. There are numerous online resources available using which you can grasp the basics of this language.
Therefore, you should pursue IT from IIIT-A even if you have no experience in programming.
