What is the comparison between IIFT & IIM Shillong?

TC

Studied MBA in International Business at the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Delhi (2019)

It is worth noting that the brand value of "IIM" may vary among the different institutes. IIM Ahmedabad may have a different brand perception than IIM Lucknow, which may differ from IIM Kozhikode, and so on. With plans to establish an IIM in every state, getting admitted to one may not necessarily hold as much weight as it once did.

Older business schools may have more opportunities available to their students due to their more extensive alumni networks and long history of the establishment. Additionally, business schools located in metropolitan areas may have better access to recruiters, leading to potentially better job placements for their students.

Ultimately, it is up to you to consider these factors and make the final decision that best suits your needs and goals.

How do I reach IIM-Shillong?

JD
Jakil Dedhiya Posted On : January 16th, 2023
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Shillong (2019)

The only means of transport to reach IIM Shillong is a cab. You can book it privately or go for a shared one as well depending on your budget. The duration of the journey is around 3-4 hours on any typical day. There are two routes to reach IIM Shillong

  1. Take a shared cab from Airport/Railway station and take a stop at Police Bazar. From there you can take another cab to IIM Shillong which is around 15 mins away.
  2. You can directly hail a private cab from Guwahati Airport or Guwahati Railway station to IIM Shillong. This option is suitable for those who are traveling to the college for the first time. The fair amounts to something around 2k and can be shared by people accompanying you.

Once you are familiar with the traffic and routes, you can look for other options as well.

What should be my preference between IIM Shillong & IIM Ranchi?

AJ
Arshit Jain Posted On : January 25th, 2023
PGDM from Indian Institute of Management Shillong (Graduated 2018)

To compare two business schools objectively, it is important to consider more than just the numbers in placement reports. In addition to looking at the average CTC, it is also helpful to consider the median salary to get a better understanding of the context. It is possible that the average CTC may be significantly influenced by international offers or a small percentage of the batch securing high-paying jobs. When comparing the maximum and average packages offered, it is important to keep in mind that institutes often include international offers in these calculations.

In addition to the number of roles offered, it is important to consider the quality of the recruiters and brands. It may be helpful to look at the LinkedIn profiles of alumni to get a better understanding of the roles and companies that have been recruited from the school. It is also important to note that the same companies may be listed in the placement reports of different schools, but that does not necessarily mean that the roles and packages offered are the same.

Finally, it is important to remember that a business school education is about more than just placements, and what a student makes of their MBA experience is also important.

Here are some differences between IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Shillong-

  1. IIM Ahmedabad is the top business school in India, while IIM Shillong is amongst the top 30.
  2. MBA aspirants highly desire IIMA, but they are skeptical about IIM Shillong because of the location factor.
  3. IIMA has a strong alumni network. Its graduates are in top positions in almost all kinds of industries. IIM Shillong doesn’t have such a strong alumni network, it will require some time to build one.

IIMA is already the leader, while IIM Shillong aspires to become one. Regardless, both of these are great institutes for management studies.

Both IIM Shillong and S P Jain Mumbai are highly regarded management institutes in India. IIM Shillong is a government-owned institution and one of the top-ranked management institutes in the country. It offers a two-year Post Graduate Program in Management (PGPM) that provides students with a solid foundation in management education.

S P Jain Mumbai, on the other hand, is a private institution that offers various management programs, including a two-year full-time PGDM (Post Graduate Diploma in Management) program, which is equivalent to an MBA degree. It has been consistently ranked among the top business schools in India and has a strong global reputation.

When deciding between IIM Shillong and S P Jain Mumbai, you should consider factors such as program structure, curriculum, faculty, campus facilities, location, and placement records. You may also want to research the alumni network of both institutions and the industry partnerships they have to gain insights into the career opportunities they offer.

However, it will be suggested to enroll in SP Jain Mumbai, rather than IIM Shillong.

Should I join IIM Shillong or IIFT Kolkata?

ZZ
Zakir Zafar Posted On : January 16th, 2023
MBA in Master of Business Administration Degrees, Indian Institute of Management Shillong (Graduated 2019)

Both colleges are worth considering for a good career. Since its establishment in 2006, IIFT Kolkata has been climbing the ladder to success. The excellent performance in corporate competitions is a testimony to that. IIM Shillong is among the fastest-growing new IIMs and its alums are making a name in the industry.

We usually judge a college's worth based on factors like Alumni network, teaching pedagogy, corporate competition wins, etc. Yet, here I am going to simply make a domain-wise comparison. This is because when choosing a college focus should not be on the college but on your own interests. Identifying the domain you want to enter is necessary only then you can choose a college that excels in that respective domain.

  • Marketing: Many Marketing firms visit only IIFT and not IIM Shillong giving it an advantage in this aspect.
  • Finance: Finance is better at IIFT as the hotshots like Goldman Sachs only visit IIFT.
  • Operations: Both the B Schools excel in this domain.
  • Trade: Without any doubt, IIFT is the hub of Trade.
  • Consulting: Consulting is better at IIFT because top firms like GEP, and CEB visit its campus only.
  • IT: Both the B Schools are visited by top firms like Google.

What score do I require to get a call from IIM Shillong for OBC?

AK
Aastha Khandelwal Posted On : January 23rd, 2023
Merchandiser at Shahi Exports (Indian company) (2019–present)

IIM Shillong does not have an OBC reservation due to some state laws. The minimum marks required for shortlisting OBC candidates is the same as the General Category, which is 75/75/75 in the VARC, DILR, and QA sections. The minimum percentile required for shortlisting may vary depending on the candidate's undergraduate stream.

For example, a male engineer would be in competition with other male engineers, and the minimum percentile required would depend on how well candidates from that category performed. As a general rule, a percentile of 98+ would be a safe bet for GEM candidates to receive a call, while a lower percentile may be sufficient for candidates from other streams.

Is the IIM Shillong much worse than the IIM K?

PK
Parneet Kaur Posted On : January 23rd, 2023
Analyst at DebriN Synergy (company) (2015–present)

It is incorrect to say that one statement is true or false without any context. However, based on the information provided, it is correct to say that IIM Kozhikode is older than IIM Shillong and that IIM Shillong has a higher average package and better infrastructure and placement compared to IIM Kashipur. It is also true that the average package offered by IIM Kozhikode is higher than that offered by both IIM Shillong and IIM Kashipur.

It is important to note that these figures may vary from year to year and may not be indicative of the overall quality of the institutes. Factors such as the reputation of the institute, the quality of the faculty, the curriculum, and the opportunities for learning and growth are also important considerations when choosing an institute for higher education.
