Which would be a good option, VGSOM or IIM Rohtak?

CV
Charu Verma Posted On : November 3rd, 2020
Executive MBA General Management, Indian Institute of Management Rohtak (2020)

VGSoM is ranked 5th in the prestigious NIRF ranking for its management program, whereas IIM Rohtak nabs its 21st position. While VGSoM has positioned itself as a premium Business School in 2020, IIM Rohtak has been overtaken by a crowd of other IIMs, due to lack of funding and exposure.

Academics:

  • While VGSoM offers a traditional 2-year full-time MBA degree and 3-year Executive MBA.

  • IIM Rohtak offers PGP, Executive PGP, and IPM (Integrated Program in Management), a five-year integrated course, covering bachelor and graduate framework.

  • VGSoM offers an MBA as a two-year course at a fee of INR 12,22,200 Lakhs.

  • IIM Rohtak charges INR 4,95,000 Lakhs for the first year of the IPM course. The course fee for PGPM is 16 lakhs for 2 years.

Infrastructure & Facilities:

VGSoM:

  • VGSoM campus is situated at the extension of the 2100 acre IIT KGP hold, settled in the heart of the city.

  • The campus houses massive classrooms, computer & IT labs, auditorium, cafeteria, hostel, sports complex, among other basic amenities.

IIM Rohtak:

  • The college campus is sprawled over 200 acres of land, accommodating more than 20 buildings designated for each other's respective purposes.

  • The classrooms are air-conditioned and well-furnished with audio-visual arrangements and proper lightning.

  • The campus has 24-hour electricity available, with separate Wi-Fi zones and LAN privileges.

  • The college has affordable, separate hostels for boys and girls.

Placements:

VGSoM:

  • Over 70 recruiters participated in the campus drive, driving talent from VGSOM.

  • The packages vary from 10 LPA to 30 LPA, each year.

  • From the 2018-2020 class, the highest package rose up to 29 LPA, with the average being set at 18.1 LPA.

IIM Rohtak:

  • The college has a placement rate of 100%.

  • Over 90 distinct companies pool talent from the college, with a number of variable recruiters going as high as 40.

  • The highest package offered in the most-recent academic cycle is INR 24 LPA.

  • The average salary offered is an impressive INR 13.7 LPA.

  • Companies such as ICICI Bank, CDE Asia, Microland, IVP, and Arcesium are some of the top recruiters which visit the campus for the placement season.

Both of these colleges outperform the rest of the competition in terms of placements. IIM indeed takes a superior lead when it comes to NIRF rankings. Students must consider the options in terms of infrastructure and facilities. With lowered fees and a stronger placement cycle, VGSoM takes an edge here.

Should one take the IPM course at IIM Rohtak considering the fact that it will the first batch of IPM and IIM Rohtak is not one of the top 20 institutes? What do you think RoI?

Studies IPM at IIM Rohtak (2021)

The IPM course at IIM Rohtak started only a few years back. Here is what you should know before applying.

  • The professors are highly professional and experienced. This program can be new, but the professors still greatly handle students.
  • The work ethic usually followed at the institute does not differentiate in any case whatsoever. This means, the gap between postgraduate students, and undergraduate students are allegedly bridged on the very first day. The professors treat undergraduate students equally as postgraduate students.

When coming down to the ROI, the future at the institute is quite promising. One of my cousins, who is a recent alumnus, does not regret being part of IIM Rohtak at all. The course structure is eclectic and highly competitive, which makes it compelling to learn.

When we compare a reputed BBA college, i.e. SCMS Pune with IIM Rohtak. The fees of SCMS Pune can range up to 3 Lakhs or more, and the combined accommodation is not usually lesser than 1.5 Lakhs to 2 Lakhs per annum for a hostel of minimal charges. Given the structure, IIM Rohtak generally takes 5 Lakhs Per Annum as well, in the first three years, which is essentially good for its cause and exposure.

What do you think about the IPM course being recently introduced in IIM Rohtak? Will the competition be less, as it is the first year?

The IPM course offered by IIM Rohtak is an integrated program that includes BBA and MBA is for the students who have passed their class XII. This is a very unique and trending course. The foundational BBA course provides an edge for pursuing MBA degrees which, in turn, will help you become successful managers or leaders in the future. Also, the internship opportunity is provided right from the start of the course and will give you hands-on experience in the particular field.

Now coming to the competition, due to the limited seats offered, the competition is quite high. Usually, around 8,000-10,000 students apply during registrations, after the IPM AT, i.e. the entrance exam, only 800 students are selected for the WAT PI round. Finally, 140 students were selected to pursue the course.

Due to the uniqueness and diversified nature of the course, the competition is quite high for getting the seat.

Should I join IIM Rohtak? I’m a fresher, graduation scores are bad so even if I join, would I get a good placement offer?

AS

If you graduated from a top-tier college in your field of study and have excellent niche technical and professional skills, your market value rises. In this case, if you have a job offer that meets your short- and long-term career goals and you're happy with the remuneration, challenges, and learning environment, you should consider accepting it and postponing your MBA by a year or so. A few years of professional experience will undoubtedly boost your CV and qualify you for top-tier B-schools in India and abroad.

Alternatively, if you don't already have a satisfying job offer or want to pursue your master's degree for other reasons, IIM Rohtak is a good option.

If you don't have a job offer and only want to pursue an MBA from a top-tier MBA program, this is a difficult decision to make. Firstly, wasting a year in preparation is not worth it. You may believe that with a high score, you will be able to pass the exam next year and gain admission to top B-schools, but the truth is that even MBA colleges frown upon a gap year in their admission interviews, and it is difficult to account for when interviewing for placements and jobs.

Go for IIM Rohtak and make the most of the opportunities there. In reality, it is a central government-sponsored institution with standard and excellent academics, curriculum, and campus infrastructure.

Which one is the better option, a BBA from DU or from IIM Rohtak?

MR
Mukund N Rao Posted On : January 10th, 2023
Studies at Indian Institute of Management Rohtak (Expected 2024)

Many people consider DU as a better option especially if it’s any of the top 3-4 colleges. Yet I chose IIM Rohtak. Now I am going to list down reasons why one should choose DU or IIM Rohtak separately

Why one should go for DU

  • You end up saving more than 10 lakhs which is a big amount
  • The BBA course here is fairly new and promising
  • The location advantage one avail while studying DU is far better than Rohtak.
  • If one is sure that they can clear CAT

Why one should go for IIM Rohtak

  • If you are a non-math student and have zero interest in commerce
  • If you want to give one more chance CAT, you can give it after 3 years.
  • The additional 10 lakhs rupees becomes more like insurance for your seat reserved in IIM Rohtak. This will save you from taking a year drop and an additional year to work.

Now on the basis of the above points, you can make a decision that suits you the best.

Is IIM Rohtak going to start a 5-year IPM course?

MB
Mridula Banerjee Posted On : August 2nd, 2021
IIM Bangalore (2018)

IIM Rohtak has already started a 5-year Integrated Program in Management (IPM) in 2019. It is similar to the IPM program started by IIM Indore earlier.

There are some minor differences between the two as well such as the minimum percentage required by the student to be eligible for admission in the course. IIM Rohtak has mandated that a student should secure at least 75% in both 10th and 12th to be eligible to apply for this course.

The number of seats offered by the institute is 160. Undergraduate education in management is not very well promoted in India and hopefully, with IIM Indore, IIM Rohtak, and many more to possibly follow suit, the undergraduate management education will also receive the same glory as MBAs.

Is it compulsory to stay in the hostel at IIM Rohtak for all 5 years while doing IPM there? Also, do they have a rigid academic session where 90 attendance is compulsory?

YC
Yash Chandra Posted On : January 18th, 2023
Studies at Indian Institute of Management Rohtak (Expected 2024)

Yes, IPM and the majority of other programs are offered entirely in residence on all IIM campuses.

For the purpose of clarification, the attendance policy is actually 100% mandatory (at least on paper). You must now obtain permission to miss classes and leave campus. Medical emergencies, urgent family functions, and so on are examples of exceptions.

Other rules that affect the daily lives of students are:

  • Night curfews: First-year students are not permitted to leave their hostels after 10:30 p.m. Things become more relaxed as you advance in maturity level.
  • Lights out time: During the first month, this is usually strictly enforced until you get acclimatized. The light-out time was mostly kept on paper then.
  • Yoga: Yoga classes are required five days a week.
  • Restriction: You can leave campus without permission only on Sundays; otherwise, a gate pass is required. Again, as you become senior, this becomes less strict.
  • Discipline: Yes, there have been terminations based on disciplinary issues such as drinking, PDAs, and so on. As the other answer stated, you can't really escape.

Which among the following should I join if given the options: IIM Ranchi, IIM Rohtak, or IIM Trichy?

PK
Parneet Kaur Posted On : January 17th, 2023
A KPGP 16-18 | IIM Trichy | Core Member, Cultural Committee

Given below are the reasons why you should choose IIM Trichy over IIM Ranchi, and IIM Rohtak:

  • According to statistics, IIM Trichy has one of the highest average compensation packages among the new IIMs. The highest and average packages offered during the 2022 placement drive, according to the final IIM Trichy placement report, was INR 34 LPA and INR 17.01 LPA, respectively.
  • Although all of the IIMs are relatively new, IIM Ranchi and IIM Rohtak, which were founded in 2009, are older than IIM Trichy, which was founded in 2011. Nonetheless, IIM Trichy continues to coordinate the CAP for newer IIMs.
  • IIM Trichy has the most full-time faculty of any new IIM, with 35. Furthermore, the majority of the faculty here are fellows of IIM A, B, C, K, TISS, JBIMS, NUS Singapore, and others, and they all have extensive industry experience.

Furthermore, because there is enough permanent faculty, students have a wide variety of subjects to choose from as electives in the second year, which is yet another factor that keeps IIM Trichy ahead of the competition.

Trichy is nearly equidistant from two of India's fastest-growing business hubs, Chennai and Bangalore. And the city is well-connected to both of these cities by rail, road, and air. This improves accessibility as well as placement. Furthermore, there are numerous tourist attractions nearby, including Ooty, Pondicherry, Rameshwaram, Munnar, and others, all of which are within a few hours' drive of the campus. Trichy is also consistently ranked as one of the cleanest cities in India.

Should I choose IIM Trichy or IIM Rohtak?

PM
Pratibha Mishra Posted On : January 18th, 2023
Student PGP04 2013-15

The deciding factor between the new IIMs is significantly lower than JND. Take a decision while keeping yourself in mind, because all new IIMs (Rohtak, Ranchi, Raipur, or Trichy) are equally good.

Because of regional industry coordination, IIM Rohtak has an advantage over others if you want to settle in NCR.

Old is gold, and it is the oldest of the new IIMs, with a larger batch size and a larger alumni base. None of the new IIMs have their own full-fledged campus, unlike MDU. However, IIM Rohtak employs MDU infrastructure that is superior to that of many older IIM campuses, while newer IIMs require decades.
