How much percentile is required for admission in MDI, JBIMS or FMS?

AM
Anisha Mukhija Posted On : February 20th, 2023
Studied at Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies

My answer does mention the required percentile for each of the B Schools you mentioned. But before I proceed I would like to shed light on the fact that the CAT percentile is not the only factor that determines your admission into a B School. There are other factors you need to work on like academic background, work experience, and GD-PI.

MDI

The college offers PGDM admissions on the basis of CAT and GMAT scores. The expected CAT percentile is around 93-95 and the GMAT score is 680+.

Apart from this, the candidates are expected to have above average academic records, work experience and WAT.

JBIMS

The institute accepts CAT, MH-CET, and GMAT. The percentile cutoff for the General Category

CAT: 95

MH-CET: 99.97

GMAT is accepted only for NRIs.

FMS Delhi

This institute is well known for its extremely low fees and the null weightage given to past academics. Thus admissions are based on the CAT percentile for which the cutoff is very high and GD-PI. The CAT percentile can be around 98.3

It is important to note that CAT should not be the only factor to consider while preparing for admission. Interview and GD rounds should also be given equal importance in addition to work experience.

What are the things asked in the personal interview for an MSc in finance of JBIMS?

AB
Abhijeit Bhosale Posted On : February 20th, 2023
MMS from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies

The things you are questioned about in the PI round for an MSc in finance of JBIMS have broadly categorized into

  • Self-awareness: Your personal attributes like strengths, areas of improvement, hobbies, interests, passion, goals, and unique traits.
  • General Knowledge: Your interest in what’s happening around you and your opinions on the same.
  • Academics: Your familiarity with the subject you have specialized in, your favorite and least favorite subjects, the projects you have worked on, and why you chose that particular domain
  • Extracurricular background: Your participation in extracurricular activities and related questions
  • Why JBIMS MSc Finance? The most important question they are going to put forward is why did you go for this specific program and why not MMS/MBA Finance from JBIMS or any other institute
  • Skill based: They will question you about your soft skills by asking you to share instances where you portrayed team skills, communication skills, ability to multitask, leadership skills, negotiation skills, etc.
  • Experience: questions regarding your current job, roles, achievements and what you have learned so far.
  • Finance questions: They might ask some basic finance questions like What is SENSEX, assets, liabilities, what is credit/debit, what’s a balance sheet/P&L, what are equities, CRR, SLR, repo and reverse repo, how does the banking system work, what is FD, mutual funds, etc.

These are some of the areas you will be questioned about. Prepare well and deliver the answers confidently.

Does JBIMS accept a student with a year gap?

HN
Hardik Nagar Posted On : March 3rd, 2023
MBA from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (Graduated 2011)

If you meet the eligibility criteria for the Common Entrance Test (CET) of JBIMS and achieve a score above the required cutoff, there is no need to worry about your admission chances. The admission decision is based solely on the score obtained on the written test.

However, once admitted, you will likely be asked about any gaps in your education during various stages, such as while preparing for summer internships, during summer internship interviews (for companies that have a no-gap criterion), while preparing for final placements, during final placement interviews, and even during your first few job changes. JBIMS may be accepting of a 99.9+ score, but recruiters may not share the same enthusiasm.

You may be asked about any gaps in your education during the interview process. In this case, it is important to share any relevant experiences and learnings from the gap year. Having a gap in education is not a problem, but not having learned anything from it may be viewed negatively.

It is too early to worry about these potential scenarios. Focus on preparing for and performing well in the written tests, as the rest can be managed later.

Are JBIMS finance placements and packages at par when compared to IIM Calcutta?

VS
Vikram Singh Posted On : December 13th, 2022
Management Consultant. SPJIMR 2015-17

If you believe that the finance placements and packages at JBIMS are comparable to those at IIM Calcutta, you are mistaken.

JBIMS and IIM-C don't even agree on anything.

Some may argue that most companies that visit IIM-C also attend JBIMS, but the reality is hidden in the roles available and the salary packages available.

JBIMS is good for finance, but IIM-C is not comparable; it is in a different league entirely.

5 years down the line which will benefit you better, SP Jain or JBIMS?

S
Sagardeep Posted On : March 3rd, 2023
Studied at Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi (Graduated 2021)

Both SP Jain and JBIMS are highly reputable, but objectively speaking, SPJIMR should be the preferred choice between the two. Its selection process is highly unique, based on profile and fit, and extremely thorough. The school thoroughly evaluates if a candidate matches its culture and academic standards. It is recommended to visit the SPJIMR campus for the interviews. The social integration through the DOCC and Project Abhudaya programs helps to produce well-rounded leaders. Placements at SPJIMR are also noteworthy, so be sure to review their placement reports.

In conclusion, if you do not have experience with A, B, C, L, FMS, and XL, then SPJIMR is the ideal campus for pursuing an MBA.
