How is the IIT Madras online course?

AS
Arati Sinha Posted On : March 30th, 2023
studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras

The online Programming and Data Science course offered by IIT Madras is an additional diploma that can be completed in 3-6 years. Despite the increasing demand, I think this course lacks the necessary rigor and is unnecessary.

  1. This course is usually undertaken by those who are already pursuing an offline engineering course alongside. Some even find it challenging to complete online assignments and give exams at their regular college.
  2. A major part of the curriculum is already available on NPTEL. The only additional benefits are the assignments, tests, and the diploma certificate at the end. Thus, if you are solely after the knowledge and content, many other better colleges and online portals offer the course at a much lower price.
  3. Most students choose this course for the IIT tag. But you don’t get to experience IIT campus life which is unique in itself. The students are always busy with some research work or learning new skills. You miss out on all these despite the high fees you are paying.

Ultimately you decide to make consider the pros and cons of the course. It’s advisable to talk to someone who has completed this course to get a better understanding of it.

How is the interview process at IIM Ranchi?

MJ
Manan Jain Posted On : January 11th, 2023
studied MBA in Marketing at Indian Institutes of Management (2020)

My friend got a call for an interview from IIM Ranchi. Her CAT score was 97-98 percentile and she had around 4 years of experience. She was called in by 3 male panelists who first asked her to introduce herself and speak about herself. When they felt she was comfortable enough they started asking questions like

  • The name of one Power manufacturer in Hyderabad
  • How hydroelectric power is generated
  • Where is Asia’s first Hydro-electric power situated
  • Why she chose to pursue an MBA after working for 4 years
  • What would she have done if there were no MBA colleges
  • Her long term goal
  • Her weaknesses

She was able to answer almost all the questions confidently. Her interview lasted for 30 minutes after which they asked her to leave. Fortunately, she was selected for the final shortlist. Based on her experience, she shared the following tips for anyone who is appearing for an interview

  • Prepare your answers related to your current job and role.
  • Conduct historical research about the places you have visited or stayed at
  • Prepare strong points that will help you turn the table in the worst-case scenarios.
  • Read current affairs and news headlines
  • Be your genuine self. Trust me this will help you win their favor more than anything else.

So give your level best with utmost confidence and you are good to go.

What is your opinion about IIM Indore's IPM programme?

JJ
Jason Jose Posted On : January 24th, 2023
Works at the Indian Institute of Management in Indore

Even though there have been many hyped and legitimate reasons to be skeptical, it is one of India's top undergraduate programs. Of course, an older IIT with a strong B Tech stream beats it, but that's it.

Your innocence and curiosity are killed by the Indian graduation system in class XII. IPM promotes and safeguards it. You are given the opportunity to ask questions, learn about different topics, and experiment with them so that you will be well-versed in all of their facets. Clearly, the PGP level is where thought consolidation takes place.

Students are incredibly intelligent, curious, daring, and innocent. Life teaches much more than any classroom ever could by living away from home and overcoming obstacles on your own. Because of this, the 200-acre campus' amazing and world-class facilities contribute to the overall experience and process of growing up.

Is it true that in NIT Trichy, Calicut, and other south colleges the professors teach in Malayalam or other regional languages?

VS
Vaani Singh Posted On : July 18th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2017)

No, it's not true that professors in NIT Trichy, Calicut, and other South Indian schools teach in Malayalam or other regional languages. Most of the teachers are proficient in English and classes are conducted in that medium only. Occasionally some professors out of habit may speak a word or two in their regional language but it is not a requirement or the norm.

The official medium of instruction in these institutions is typically English. However, it's possible that, in some cases, professors may use regional languages as a teaching aid to help students understand complex technical concepts better.

How is the campus of NIT Durgapur?

SC
Suborno Chaterjee Posted On : September 7th, 2023
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, National Institute of Technology Durgapur (2017)

NIT Durgapur is older than 60 years and most of its infrastructure is in ruins. The condition of hostels and laboratories is pathetic but the overall situation is in control and no major obstacle is experienced in academics. NIT Durgapur has a relatively smaller campus than other colleges. So it's better organized too. Currently, new hostels are being constructed and academic buildings are being renovated. The campus still is lacking in terms of high-tech amenities. For example most colleges have an e-library, and NIT Durgapur has an old and small library. There are two playgrounds that are hardly functional.

NIT Durgapur has a visually pleasing campus surrounded by lush greenery. The campus has its pros and cons. In the end, the size of the campus does not determine your career but your passion does!

Is MANIT Bhopal mechanical good for girls?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : November 8th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

It is not about MANIT Bhopal or any other institute, it is about the branch. Mechanical is considered to be a tough branch, so girls usually steer away from opting for it. This is mainly because of the advice given by elders, and some age old perceptions.

As an alumnus of MANIT B.Tech Mechanical, I would like to share my experiences with you. I was the only girl in my entire batch. However, I never felt left out. In fact, I made some really good friends, and became famous as the only girl in my batch.

The faculty is cooperative, and it entirely depends on how well you interact with them. The placements are good, and girl students get an advantage in some respects. You’ll learn to handle a lot of situations on your own, and you won’t be roasted much during labs and vivas as the professors have a soft corner for the very few girls in the batch. You’ll bond with people from the other branches quite easily.

My journey as a Mechanical student was filled with ups and downs. I made precious memories at the department which I will cherish for lifetime.
