When choosing an engineering college, it is always somewhat better to have your options, but at the same time, stick to government-run institutes. That clarifies most of the issues here. NIT Silchar and NIT Tripura are both prominent institutes to choose from.
Few others, unlike them, are mostly on the higher lists of popularity because they have their name inculcated as NIT. However, you should never feel left out if in any case you do not get acknowledged on grounds of NIT. The other best possible option, just second to NIT, is KGEC.
Although, there is a short list of people who actually end up recommending any private institutes in lands of West Bengal.
If you anyhow need to get enrolled in any of the private institutions, then going to institutes that are deemed well known, such as SRM, KIIT, Manipal can be some other good options from your pocket.

If not any of them, then choose going to COMEDK or try enrolling in other renowned private colleges in Bangalore, some of which are RV College of Engineering, PES Institute of Technology, BMS College of Engineering and MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology.
There is another information yet to share which is, unlike BITS-Pilani, BIT-Mesra and MIT-Manipal,IEM is known to admit various students through management quota which is rather not the case for many other prestigious private engineering institutes.
But, as mentioned earlier, getting to choose from a handful of governmental institutes are better than the latter. However, options other than those few are opened as well.
IEM Kolkata has 4 core branches. The branches are as follows.
The Department of Electrical Engineering at IEM is making efforts to produce trained, and capable technocrats who can take up the challenges of the real world. This department is doing pretty well in terms of placement and academics.
The Electrical & Electronics Engineering Department is the newest and one of the best engineering departments of IEM. It is affiliated to the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology. So, if you are considering IEM Kolkata to pursue ME, then without any second thoughts, just go for it.
Indian Institute of Engineering and Management (IEM) and Globsyn Business School are prominent institutions that are mentioned in the list of the top private B-Schools in India. IEM has been ranked 13th by Times Higher Education while Globsyn Business School has been titled as the ‘Most Preferred B-School of the Year – East’ in 2019.
The choice between these two institutions is entirely dependent on the subjective viewpoint of the student.

IEM boasts of an excellent faculty board including various alumni from IIM, IIT, and other Foreign Universities. The institute offers the latest technologies to the students. Human Resource, Finance, Information System, Marketing, Business Analytics, Operation, etc are some of the specializations offered during the course.
Globsyn Business School claims to have a 100% placement record and has an extensive curriculum that includes Summer Internships, Live Projects, Industry Visits, Boardroom Simulation, Corporate Connects, etc. Specializations in Finance, Operations Management, Marketing, HR, and Information System are included in the designed course.
Both the institutions are proficient in terms of academics and placements.
IEM Kolkata organizes many fests and competitions throughout the year. The IEM Kolkata fest is organised every year and it is known as Innovacion. It is being celebrated at a large scale and many performances, from dance to drama are performed here. All students from semester participate in this fest and together they make it a successful one.
The college also organises fresher's parties and annual functions at science city auditorium. At the fresher's party, all the newbies are welcome and they introduce themselves to their professors and seniors. These events turn out as a great refreshment for the students as the students have to go through a lot while studying and complete all the projects and assignments and attempting exams all together.
The events are necessary as it encourages the students to learn some new things like time management, discipline, teamwork and students can also showcase their talent to the world by performing in these events.
IEM Kolkata is one of the reputed engineering colleges in West Bengal, and it has a good track record of placing its students in top companies through campus placements. The institute has collaborations with various companies and industries, which provide internship opportunities to the students.
Some of the popular companies that offer internships to the students of IEM Kolkata include TCS, Wipro, Cognizant, IBM, Microsoft, Deloitte, and Amazon, among others. The internships can be both paid and unpaid, depending on the company's policies and the student's performance during the internship.
The institute also has a dedicated placement cell that provides assistance to students in finding internships and placements. The placement cell conducts various training programs, workshops, and mock interviews to prepare the students for the placement process.
The placement cell also invites top companies to the campus for conducting placement drives. Some of the companies that visit the campus for placements include Google, Adobe, Samsung, Cisco, Infosys, and Accenture, among others. The placement percentage of IEM Kolkata is usually high, with a majority of the students getting placed in top companies every year.
IEM Kolkata as a college is just focused on getting marks and secure jobs during campus placements rather than providing quality education to its students to get some knowledge. The students were told to sit in campus placements with UEM students which was considered to be a very dis-organized step taken by the college.
The environment inside the college is very bad and the curriculum for students is worse. My sister studied here and she mentioned how the students are only concerned about getting any kind of job during the campus placement so the institution can maintain their reputation resulting in more admissions in the coming years.

They don't care about improving the knowledge or skills of a student. The rules of the college are really difficult sometimes. Like if you're seen at the library you can be restricted for bunking class. Also the teachers are very rude and the students are scared of them.
These things leave a bad impression on the students about the department and the college too and ruin the name of the college. These problems should be solved immediately and not only in this college, it should be fixed in every college where such things happen.
Institute of Engineering and Management (IEM) is better than the Heritage Institute of Technology. There are various reasons for saying the same.
There are various activities taking place on the campus and you can be a part of some or another activity. If you join this college, you will enjoy your stay here and walk out with pride and satisfaction.
Without a doubt, RV College is better than IEM College for engineering. It is popular for branches like Computer Science Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. The points which make it superior are:
Ranking: (Winning Institution - RV College of Engineering)
RV College is under the top 50 colleges as per NIRF Rankings, with a rank of 35. IEM College is not even in the capstone of 100.
Location: (Winning Institution - RV College of Engineering)
RV College is in the Silicon Valley of India, Bengaluru. This gives an advantage of more job opportunities and explores the top companies, whereas IEM College is in Kolkata. The place is among the lowest GDP cities in the country. Therefore, it is not good enough for jobs and growth opportunities.
Placement: (Winning Institution - RV College of Engineering)
RV College of Engineeringoffers an average package of over 10 LPA for circuital branches. For non-circuital branches, the average CTC offered is around 5 LPA.

Streams:
RV College even offers a larger number of engineering streams as compared to IEM. It gives a lot of choices to students. Among those, CSE/ISE is the most distinguished branch.
Crowd: (Winning Institution - RV College of Engineering)
The crowd for engineering in RV College is more competent and of better quality than IEM. The reason being that RV College admits quality students as per the COMEDK ranks that are usually within 1000. The CSE branch records even higher competition as the cut-off rank is 500. IEM College accepts students to 3000 rankings in WBJEE.
Overall, the above points highlight the RV College is anytime better than IEM.
One of my cousins studied at IEM Kolkata. According to him, Management degrees at IEM Kolkata aren't as impressive as BTech, BBA, and BCA. BCA having the best placements.
