In Gwalior, to pursue biotechnology courses there are some very good colleges like MITS, ITM, Amity University.

• MITS is a government college and it is a very reputed and popular college. The fee structure of this college is around 1 - 1.5 lakhs/year which is very less than other colleges, but it is very difficult to get admission here as the competition is very high because of its less fees.
• ITM and Amity University are both private universities offering biotech courses and among them, Amity University is one of the best to pursue biotechnology courses. But being a private institution, the course fee for BTech at Amity is higher. It is around 6 Lakhs. But you can easily get admission at Amity or ITM.

Your preference order should be - MITS > ITM ~ Amity.

NIT Warangal is ranked 46 overall and 19 for BTech by NIRF 2020. They have a faculty strength of 302 members and a student population of 5010.

NIT Manipur ranks 158th for BTech by NIRF 2020. It is an autonomous institute recognized by UGC and AICTE. It has a faculty strength of 72 members, 40 of them being PhD holders.

Biotechnology in NIT Warangal and CSE in NIT Manipur both are full time courses for a duration of 4 years.

Both the NITs are equally good. Though due to the rapidly growing corporate industry there is a huge demand for computer engineers or CSE graduates. It is considered the most preferred engineering course among others. Biotechnology unlike CSE does not have the same amount of popularity among students as well as professionals. But ultimately it depends on the students and their preferences.

Amity University, Sharda University, and Manav Rachna University are reputed private universities located in India. Amity University, Sharda University, and Manav Rachna University offer Biotechnology specialization as an undergraduate degree in Bachelor of technology with a 4-year duration.

Admissions:

Amity University:

• The admissions at Amity University is done on the basis of Amity JEE.

• Admission is granted on the basis of the entrance test and English essay test followed by GD or personal interview.

• The minimum eligibility criteria include 10+2 from a recognized board with 60% aggregate in standard 10th and 12th with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/Biology.

• The application fee for Amity JEE is INR 1100.

Sharda University:

• The admissions at Sharda University is done on the basis of SUAT (online test) followed by a personal interview, JEE Mains (AIR up to 3lac), UPSEE (AIR up to 50,000).

• The minimum eligibility criteria include matriculation and senior secondary (10+2) with 60% marks in aggregate and minimum 60% in PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics), Computer science/PCB without a gap between 10th and 12th.

Manav Rachna University:

• The admissions at Manav Rachna University are done on the basis of the JEE Mains score, SAT, Uni Gauge E, MRNAT, 12th qualifying examination.

• The minimum eligibility criteria include passing 10+2 with at least 50% marks in aggregate in five subjects.

According to the reports, Amity University and Sharda University recorded 100% placement in the biotechnology department and their placement rates are also high, on the other hand, Manav Rachna University recorded 60% placement in the biotechnology department.

UIET Chandigarh is affiliated to Panjab University and ranked 72nd by NIRF India Rankings 2020. Biotechnology at UIET Chandigarh deals with living organisms or parts of them to create different products. UIET is well equipped with all the necessary facilities. 

NIT Sikkim offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The closing rank of Biotechnology is 40827 at NIT Sikkim. 

Thapar (TIET) University is ranked 51 overall and 29 for BTech by NIRF 2020. They have collaborations with International Universities like Trinity College, Dublin and The University of Waterloo.

Admission Requirements - 

• Students should have 60-75% in their 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

NIT Andhra Pradesh offers a 4 year BTech course in Biotechnology. The program focuses on biological sciences like microbiology, molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, etc as well as the engineering aspects of it like bioprocess engineering, biochemical engineering, thermodynamics, mass transfer, etc. It is approved by AICTE and recognized by UGC.

Unlike the IT and management sectors Biotechnology in India is still developing. They might not have the same job opportunities or salary packages as the IT or Management department. Students can receive job offers from Pharmaceutical companies, research labs and academic institutions.

Biotechnology unlike other engineering courses is a highly research oriented, vast and diverse field. Students after graduating can opt for higher studies for further research into the subject which will eventually lead them to better job offers.

As your choice, of course, is different it’s difficult to choose one institute over the other. Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur is one of the oldest NITs with a good reputation. According to the National Institutional Ranking Framework 2020 VNIT ranks at 18 among all the engineering colleges of India. The placement highlights of 2018-19 at VNIT Nagpur show 68 students from Electrical Engineering got placed. The average salary package offered in the placement was around 7 LPA, while the highest package offered to students was 22 LPA. Top recruiters from this institute include Microsoft, MindTree, Raymond, Nokia, Sulzer, Siemens, and Symantec, etc. 

Despite being a new IIT, Indian Institute Of Technology, Bhubaneswar is doing quite well both in academics and placement. According to NIRF Ranking, IIT Bhubaneswar is ranked at 26. The placement highlights from last year show 90% of students got a placement offer from this IIT. A total of 89 companies visited the campus for placement drive. The top recruiters were Amazon, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, KPMG, L&T, Deloitte, Directi, Reliance Industries, IBM, Tesco, Samsung, Apple Inc, Adobe, Tata Steel, Tata Power, Trident Group, UnitedHealth Group, etc. ISRO, DRDO, IOCL, HPCL, ONGC are the PSUs that also visited the campus for recruiting the students. The average CTC Offered was around 11.44 LPA, whereas 39 LPA was the highest CTC.

Both the institutes VNIT and IIT Bhubaneswar have their merits, so the decision comes down to your choice of course. So, first, choose which course you want to pursue and then choose the institute offering a better program for that specific course.
