How was the placement scenario for the first Mtech batch of IIIT Bangalore?
One of my friends was a part of the first IMTech batch of IIIT Bangalore. As per the information I provided from him, the placement scenario at IIIT Bangalore initially was very poor mainly because the first batch of iMtech students neither had prior interview exposure nor any work experience. The situation improved for the better and almost 90% of the first batch got internship offers from top-notch companies. In fact, many students have already been offered PPOs during placements.
The campus was visited by many IT giants and funded start-ups that preferred Mtech students specifically. The excellent placement scenario can further be gauged by the fact that a few students had also received extended overseas internships and full-time offers as freshers.
So, the placements for the first batch at IIIT Bangalore were at par with IITs and NITs.
Should IIIT Bangalore be preferred over NITs??
Whether IIIT Bangalore should be preferred over NITs depends on many aspects like which NITs you are referring to and the course you are targeting. My sister was a student at IIIT Bangalore and shared her experience of the same. She had joined the MTech course although she had no coding knowledge or background.
Sharing her experience she claimed that thanks to the well-structured curriculum of the MTech course and the highly experienced professors, her journey was quite smooth. The first year brings everyone from diverse backgrounds on the same page and after the first semester, it all depends on your interest.
Students get placed excellently as long as you have a certain lower cut off. By the end of the course, everyone gets placed decently and there are many big firms that visit for placements. Even if you are from a non-coding background, the college will guide you in every step.
However, you will have to consider other options if you are looking for a BTech course. Coming to your question, IIIT Bangalore can be compared to the top 3 NITs for M.Tech in CS/IT courses only. So, choose IIIT Bangalore if you are getting lower NITs.
Do all M.Tech students in the IIIT Bangalore get a stipend?
IIIT Bangalore, although approved by AICTE, does not offer any stipend to its MTech students. However, there are a few companies that sponsor students' tuition fees based on merit. This is done either by conducting an exam or by someone based on their previous academic profile. Ultimately, college matters but not to a great extent. What matters is how much effort you are willing to invest while studying.

Why is the IIIT Bangalore not much recognized in spite of having an excellent faculty?
It’s true that IIIT Bangalore has an excellent faculty pool and a well-structured curriculum yet struggles to maintain a good image in the student community. This has resulted from many combined factors such as
- The iMTech program offered by IIIT Bangalore is relatively new and is yet to establish its name in the industry
- IIIT Bangalore does not believe in marketing and prefers the reputation of the college to spread by word of mouth.
- The most important factor that has resulted in IIIT Bangalore's poor reputation is that it does not offer any 4 years BTech programs. Not many prefer spending 5 years instead of 4 in the integrated program.

IIIT Bangalore is better than IIIT Allahabad. It offers a more hands-on practical learning experience. You will learn the concepts by doing. IIITB has a thriving research culture. At the end of fourth year, students are given an option to choose 6-month projects/internships or a 12-month-long research internship. The difference in the packages is due to the inflated figures released by the institutes. For instance, Microsoft offers 42 LPA packages but the actual in-hand salary is only 13 LPA.
