Which is better for M.Sc in environmental science DU or JNU?
Both Delhi University and Jawahar Lal Nehru University offer Master's degrees in Environmental Sciences. However, there is a difference in the degree offered, which is primarily due to the approach to the subject. Candidates will be enrolled in the Masters of Environmental Studies programme at Delhi University, while the Environmental Sciences programme at JNU.
The distinction is due to the approach taken in developing the curriculum. Students at Delhi University are taught the socio-economical aspects of environmental sciences in addition to developing an understanding of the subject in the context of physicochemical and biological aspects of the environment (and their interactions). Subjects taught include "social perspectives of environmental studies" and "environmental economics." There is also a Masters in Arts (MA) programme for students with a background in the humanities.
The emphasis at Delhi University is on environmental ecology, pollution sciences, and biotechnology. Remote sensing, conservation sciences, statistics, geology, and environmental impact assessment are among the subjects taught. I believe the emphasis at JNU is more on the scientific aspect of the subject (which somehow seems legitimate since the degree is being offered for Masters in Science). Furthermore, 70-80% of the curriculum is shared by both universities. Though the JNU syllabus is extensive in terms of subjects such as hydrology and the fundamental principles/technical aspects of water and pollution movement.
I want to pursue a master's in economics. Which one should I choose: Delhi School of Economics, JNU, Indian Statistical Institute, Paris-Sorbonne University or University of Munich?
All of these institutes are excellent choices for a masters in Economics. If you want to study Quantitative and Mathematical Economics, then ISI will be the best option among these. ISI Kolkata placements are pretty good. Students get recruited as Data scientists, Financial Analysts, Risk Analysts, and other similar positions. You will get good scopes for higher studies as well.
DSE is an excellent option for Economics masters. It offers good placements. Recent highlights of DSE placements show the average CTC for MA Economics is around INR 5 LPA. But the institute has a huge batch size.
Paris Sorbonne University and University of Munich are excellent options as well. These institutes are especially good for research.
Is it worth leaving a Master's in Public Policy at NLSIU to pursue an MA in Development and Labour Studies at JNU?
If you have been contemplating leaving your Master’s in Public Policy program at NLSIU Bangalore to pursue an MA in Development and Labour Studies at JNU, it is not worth it. Here's why:
- Pursuing a Master’s in Public Policy from a reputed institute like NLSIU Bangalore opens doors to promising and lucrative career opportunities. In comparison, job prospects in Development and Labour Studies are relatively meager.
- A Master’s in Public Policy program helps you develop a wholesome understanding and a holistic idea of Policy Making. It also allows you to understand the broader spectrum of key issues related to policy-making. In contrast, the MA program in Development and Labour Studies at JNU may not provide a 360º approach towards understanding public issues or cultivate a knack for Policy Making, as this course is primarily focused on issues related to Labour and Trade Unions.
- There are several reputed Think Tanks in India that offer lucrative and respectful career opportunities to Public Policy Graduates. Some of them are - the Centre for Policy Research, NITI Aayog, Observer Research Foundation, Research Foundation for Governance in India, Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies, India Policy Foundation, Indian Institute for Advanced Studies, and so on.
In conclusion, if you are already selected for pursuing a Master’s in Public Policy at NLSIU Bangalore, it is not worth leaving it to pursue an MA in Development and Labour Studies at JNU. Pursuing Public Policy at a reputed institute like NLSIU Bangalore will open doors to lucrative career opportunities and help you develop a wholesome understanding and a holistic idea of Policy Making.
Which one is a better option for an MCA, MNNIT Allahabad or JNU New Delhi?
JNU conducts the toughest entrance for MCA. Its faculty and environment are ideal for this degree. MNNIT Allahabad is a good institute, but its MCA is not comparable to JNU.
However, JNU does not have a concrete curriculum for its MCA entrance. Its entrance is conducted in a non serious manner, and the paper is difficult to crack. Moreover, it has a lot of reservations and quotas, even on such limited seats.
On the other hand, NIMCET is conducted in an organized manner, and its paper is easy to understand. The syllabus and blueprints are made available on the official website for good preparation.
Despite all this, JNU has a very professional education system. It does not offer any placements, but you’ll get good exposure on campus and land a job on your own. The MCA faculty is highly experienced, but I am not well aware of the university’s infrastructure.
Talking of MNNIT Allahabad, it is a highly reputed NIT with a good placement record. Its campus is completely ragging free, and the environment is strict on academics. But its hostels aren’t in a good shape.
I would suggest JNU New Delhi for an MCA, but even MNNIT is a decent choice.
