Better is a very relative term. Better in what aspect? Every institute has unique traits and one might be better than the other on the basis of one aspect but not on the other. That being said, consider the following parameters and the preferable institute in that regard
In a nutshell, IIITM is better than NIT Silchar in every aspect given that you are interested in the IT field. So unless you are after the NIT tag, choose IIITM Gwalior over NIT Silchar.

Scoring a CGPA of 9+ at NIT Silchar is challenging but not impossible. With the right mindset and strategy, one can easily attain this score. However, the study strategy varies from person to person to person. Here is what my brother at NIT Silchar followed that helped him score a CGPA of 9+
Lastly, don’t make the purpose of your life to achieve a high CGPA and sacrifice your passions and hobbies in the process.
NIT Silchar is a prestigious engineering college that imparts quality education in various fields. However, the PG courses aren't very well-known and only the UG courses have gained fame over time. It is therefore advisable to check the profiles of the teachers in the respective department.
Additionally, NIT Silchar is located in a remote location and you might find it difficult to procure your equipment for projects. MTech depends on the quality of the research and project you have completed and if you fail to accomplish it your MTech degree is invaluable.
Most companies visiting NIT Silchar prefer BTech students to MTech students. So getting a good job let alone a core job is very difficult here. The institute has no international ties so your future prospects may narrow down further.
Consider all the above factors before making your final decision!
NIT Silchar’s Department of Management Studies offers an MBA in Marketing, Finance, and Human Resources Domain. Here are key highlights of the NIT Silchar MBA program
The faculty is dedicated and ensures the holistic development of its students. The entire department works as a team from the H.O.D. to students to office staff. Every student is given individual attention to ensure no communication gap. The classroom sessions are lively and dynamic discussion of current happenings in the business environment takes place. The syllabus is well-updated and at par with industrial trends. The syllabus has been designed under the guidance of a top Management Expert.
Overall, NIT Silchar MBA can be considered if you aren’t getting an MBA from a good B School.
NIT Silchar is an engineering college so its MBA program isn’t exactly very credible. Tezpur University is a much better option than NIT Silchar in terms of faculty, exposure, and job opportunities. One needs to bear in mind that the reputation of the program matters more than the reputation of the institute.
Here are a few pros and cons of joining NIT Silchar for an MBA program
Cons:
So, so NIT Silchar is a decent choice for an MBA only if you failed to make it to the IIMs, private B Schools, IITs, other NITs, and Tezpur University.
One of my friends is pursuing a BTech from CIT Kokrajhar and from what I have heard from him, it should be your last option when choosing institutes. The faculty pool comprises professors from well-renowned colleges like IIT, NERIST, ACE, and NIT. Although the institute has decent campus facilities it's yet to reach the level of NITs and other top engineering colleges. The development rate is slow.
Another friend praised the institute claiming it had many big projects under the way. Its infrastructure is better than most state engineering colleges and the professors are very talented. A professor was awarded the junior scientists award by the Indian government. Other facilities include free WiFi, medical, hostel facilities, transport facilities, sports facilities, and events like the annual cultural and technical festival. Recently, a central university library has opened and many more facilities are under way.
So, these were some opinions about studying at CIT. Choose wisely after going through all the factors!
If you look at all the criteria MHRD takes into consideration while ranking institutes, NIT Silchar is at par with most NITs but in terms of research, and infrastructure. The only parameter in which NIT Silchar was behind NIT Warangal was reputation and the difference was drastic. This affected the overall ranking of the institute in turn lowering the NT Silchar cutoffs.
I think the major reason behind its poor reputation is its remote location and the rumors related to it. It's falsely rumored to be in a Naxalite region and the exposure is believed to be minimal. The institute has a bad reputation, particularly in North India.
I have friends from several NITs and I have safely concluded that NIT Silchar is better than many but it's difficult to convince people of the same and the institute has a bad reputation.
To fix this problem, we need our alumni to be more active in portraying the right image of the institute. Additionally, the institute should hold more inter-college events and strive to build a reputation.
NIT Silchar is the best choice in terms of placement & ROI for an engineering program among NIT Agartala, NIT Mizoram, NIT Nagaland, NIT Manipur, NIT Meghalaya, NIT Sikkim and NIT Arunachal Pradesh.
In 2023 companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Adobe and offered the highest package of 80 lakh per year and average package is 14 lakh per year and the placement percentage is 90%.
This indicates that NIT Silchar offers the best deals in placement with 100% opportunity. This university emphasizes industry exposure through guest lectures, workshops, and internships, which can enhance your employability. Jeez Lazar (Executive Director, JP MORGAN), Prasanta Kr Das (Country Manager, Enterprise Services, HEWLETT PACKARD), and many more notable personalities are alumni.
Selecting NIT Silchar for my placement will be a wise decision. The exceptional courses, expert faculty, and modern facilities ensure to provide an excellent education.
Here is a comparison between IIEST Shibpur and NIT Silchar based on some common aspects
Ultimately, the final decision depends on your preferences and prospects.
